Thread: Camping Perk

I don't know if this has ever been brought up or suggested before but I got this idea while reading another thread about camping. When you are in a group nobody wants to camp because they are worried about wasting time while their buffs run out. They only want to camp if they have been beaten badly. This takes away from the original intention of camps as a healing base in the field for groups. Since most people in these groups get buffed and then rush out to kill why not allow camps to pause the timer on the buffs. Once you enter a camp you no longer have to worry about your buff running out because the timer on it stops. Once you leave the camp again it will start back up. This would be greatly popular among both Rangers and those with buffs in the field. The only nerf I can see coming from this is that Docs may be stuck with less people to buff if those people take advantage of the camps to prolong their buffs. Just an idea. What do you guys think?

I think it's a great idea!

Put it high enough in the Ranger profession and Docs wont have anything to fear

I think this is a great idea. In order to keep the docs happy I would make this a htfb only perk.

Speaking as a doc, I like it. To be fair, I don't buff people for money, so my perspective is a bit different from the docs who make money by buffing. I would see this as a big help to the docs who actually join with groups and buff their groupmates. I'm a doc/cm, so I get mind wounds pretty fast on tough hunts from using /healmind. That means I need someone (usually Calc) to make a camp so the entertainers can heal me. I usually end up having to rebuff people at the same time due, at least in part, to the downtime for mind healing. It would also remove the disadvantage to being the first one buffed out of a large group. If I buff everyone in the camp, everyone's timers would start at the same time.

Just a small suggestion for the mind wounds: bring along a Squad Leader. /BoostMorale should make the healing go much faster (it redistributes the wounds in the group so, if everyone watches the entertainers, you get a reduction in downtime proportional to the size of the group). I don't get much of a chance to use it (I don't usually get CMs joining me on hunts and I don't use it if I don't know the people in my group) but I could see it being extremely useful with the CM mind heals.

I like it!
We need to make camps useful again and this is a simple way to start down that road.

If it is HTFB only then this is no help to people trying to get up the tree. It would only help people who no longer needed the xp anyway. It needs to be lower down. Not necessarily at Novice Scout but low enough to actually be useful.

How about at the camp you get as a novice ranger? That would allow it to be a perk of having your friendly neighborhood ranger around, and really help people get up the fronteering tree.

great idea!

finally the distribution of doctors may shift from camping in front of a starport to doctors in group situations.

they need to play too... (unless they just want money)

I also agree with the HTFB only perk

I would be willing to accept this (the High Quality Camp Kit) but how high does it really need to be? Scouts have the same problem getting survival xp. And Survival 4 is the same cost as Frontiering 1. Maybe the pause amount should be tied to your camps healing mod? So a 0.65 camp heal rate would mean that the buff timer would slow down to 35% of it's normal rate (or about 1/3). And only the HTFB would fully stop the timer. But there is now a potential exploit. If you fight from or in the camp then you will never run out of buffs. Even if you limit it to non-combat actions, this allows dancers and musicians to play continuously with one buff from server up to server down. With a Combat Medic diseasing another player's mind, this will allow for insane rates of entertainment healing xp gain. Why can't exploiters just find another game and let us have nice skills without worrying too much about how people will cheat.

I think it is a great idea and at the end of the day I can't honestly see it dramatically effecting individual Docs buffing income. Grouping Docs get the spin-off benefit of needing to buff less often anyway.

Now just allow entertainers to heal BF/ Buffin high-end camps, let 'em repel creatures (as a type of unbreakable mask scent, not an exploitable 'force field effect') and keep them up during combat and we have some nice basic functionality and the idea place for a fe mins down-time during hunts.
