I seriously need the help of my fellow Rangers.
I am 4 steps from my Master Ranger and 3 from my Master Pistoleer. I am presented with a dilemma. My city needs me. I have to decide if I will pursue becoming the Mayor of my city in order to keep it alive or not. If I do that I will lose a significant amount of Skill Points from both professions in order to make that happen.
I like having both with 3 Medic skills for survival. I need Pistoleer for productive combat and Ranger--well you know why there--but my City needs me.
I also don't want to get a 2nd account and play a separate character. I am a one character-one-server player.
Can someone help me?

The priority for me here seems to be your city/guild. I think you should start with getting the requisite politician skill points and go from there. I would also suggest dropping medic. IMHO, it's a nice to have, not a must have. I would keep 1 master combat prof becaues it's an effective use of skill points (IMHO, I would drop pistols fast and get swords!). Although I hate to say it, you can have some good fun as a ranger without being master.
4/3/4/0 is good because you get access to the HTFB, good camo, tracking, and harvesting... dunno if you can afford this though. You'll need a friend to make you the HTFB and dath camo kits, but that shouldn't be too hard to find. Go to the game guides forum and search for 'template builder'. It's a great way to shuffle skills quickly.
So my suggestions sumed up:
Politician
Master swords (or another combat)
Master Scout
Ranger 0/0/4/0 - 4/3/4/0 (or somewhere in between)

Thanks. I accidentally miss-rated your message. I meant 5 not 1.
What do you think of this template only because I love Pistols.
Politician
Ranger 0/4/4/4
Master Pistols
Marksman 0/4/0/1 For Pistol Tree and Aim
I'm still torn on medic. I have 1/1/1/0 right now.

You need to ask yourself if you use the skills you have/will have. Will you use all four trees of Pistoleer? Probably. Will you use all 4 trees of Ranger? Probably not
. I would recommend avoiding Mayorship altogether, but if yu choose to become mayor, drop Ranger skills that you don't use first. One hint, I can run my city (with my alt) with only Poli 2-1-2-1 (but we had the infrastructure down already, so I could really just be Novice Poli if I never wanted to change anything in the city).

I was about to say... Hey, what's with the 1*?!?!
I'll forgive ya, honest mistake.
Template stuff...
drop medic
take ranger 4/4/4/0 over 0/4/4/4 - camo is beetter than traps

I tried to bump up the star rating lol.
But I agree with Calc-- unfortunately, as it stands, Ranger really isn't a "full" profession, meaning you can get the usefullness of it pretty much out of two trees. I'd drop the camping and trapping lines first, and see how it goes. If you really don't need to add/change anything in the city, you COULD just be a novice--but problems do sometimes arise, so you might want to take a few more skills.
The best bet would not to be a mayor at all. I mean....politicians and their correspondantare actually fans ofThose Garments Whose Name I Will Not Utter, so I'd try to avoid it at all costs...

Can you explain to me how camo is better than traps?
Oh by the way on the Politician part, I'm a down-and-dirty-type of leading person so I'm not too keen on fancy clothes. I like 'em but don't like to overwear. I'm more "Indiana Jones."

Well the Ranger traps are kinda bad, as they are all AoE traps that really don't do anything usefull. One applies a dizzy-- which we have been told does nothing on creatures. What they generally end up doing is aggroing an entire lair, rather than simply allowing you to fight creatures one on one. And really high level creatures can't be trapped, no matter how much skill you have in Ranger-- so generally speaking, I find Ranger trapping to be somewhat less usefull than camo.
Camo is also kinda borked, but I always get better results using camoflauge than I do with mask scent. I go out unbuffed and unarmored a lot, so generally speaking, I like to avoid big baddies. But it's really up to you. Some people find that all they want/need in Ranger is tracking. Play around with it and choose what you like best. It may turn out to be tracking and trapping or tracking and camping-- my real advice to you is to determine what skills you use the most and keep those lines. If you use Ranger traps, then by all means, keep that line.
Also-- the camo line is great if you're a rifleman, since that's also where you get increased crawling speed.

New TC patch update notes: "Politician skill boxes will no longer require skill points to train." So now you don't have to factor that in.
Go Master Ranger!!

I agree, for purely selfish reasons. My alt is a Mayor, Master Doctor, Dancer (now she can master Dancer and Poli, too

Holy rusted metal, batman!
That's really good news. Especially now that my town died.
But now the Antarian Rangers can start a new city. Yay!

check out the current changes on TC (which aren't working yet, but which ARE listed in the patch notes):
politician skills will be zero-skill point cost.
