Just wondering,

I have the "I was here for the CU and didnt quit" plaque

I also have the "I was here for the 3consecutive roll backs on Chimaera and didnt quit" plaque

How long would I have to stick with ranger before i get the "I stuck with ranger even when NONE of its skills were any use anymore" plaque?

Yes, it does seem as though everyone is either quitting the game or respecing into a different profession. It gets pretty depressing reading the forums only to see another fellow ranger "walk off into the wilderness". My subscription is up in a couple of days and I have been contemplating my future within the SWG universe.

I was sitting outside the Coronet starport today looking for a hunting group to get some xp to exchange later for some fs xp. It was pretty depressing that, although it was crowded there, it seemed that most there were pvp'ers not interested in hunting. I was about to log when someone who had seen my master ranger tag asked me if I would group with him to go hunting. I checked his level and saw that he was level 16. I asked him what professions he was interested in and he said he wasn't sure, maybe BH, maybe CH, he currently had some scout and marksman skills. He was totally new, just made the character a few days ago. Taking a chance he had not yet been corrupted and had some smarts I agreed to take him for a hunt on Naboo.

Hanging with this guy, I was able to see the game from a perspective I hadn't experienced since I first started playing. There were alot of wows, cools, awesomes when he saw the Naboo countryside, Fambaa, my bone armor (stupid me, I forgot to pop a camp for him). He even thought it was cool when I pulled 3 Bolle Bols at once, we put up quite a fight, eventually both got encapped but he still enjoyed it. Since I had gotten level 82 missions he was getting great xp and was leveling up nicely. When I instructed him on when to shoot and when not to he followed my instructions to the letter. Although it was only an hour of hunting, doing two missions, we both had a blast.

Even though grouping seems to me more difficult and I'm not enjoying Kashyyyk that much I've gained a new appreciation of the game and will be renewing my subscription.

Oh, this guy I was with, just before we said our goodbyes, he asked me how long it took to master ranger.

Everyone is not gone but you have to do what will help you to enjoy the game. Don't base your decision to stay a ranger on who's staying and who's leaving but on whether you can find a way to make it enjoyable.

what do you mean everyone's gone. I'm here. That should be enough. hehe. No seriously. Stick with it if you want or try something else if you feel. It doesn't make you any less a ranger either way.

I'll be sticking with it. I was schooling a respec ranger over the weekend. I think he liked the hunting!

I'm still here. Sure, I made my "taking a break" post but then as always I changed my mind. I have just put too much time into my toon to let him die in such a manner. Plus my interest shot up when I seen how much FS skills I could get as a Master Ranger.

I had a similar experience last night. I was passing through Mos Eisley on the way to my little ranger cabin on Tatooine and got a tell asking if I could give a newbie some money. Now typically I get upset when people just ask for money, but I was in a good mood so I offered to teach him to hunt. We met up and he had a whopping CL6. I pulled some easy level 78 dewbacks, camoed up, and off we went. We did a total of 4 missions, the new guy had earned 20k or so (hey, that's a fortune to a newbie!), and had learned a few things aboubt aggro avoidance, how to pull single targets, what to hunt, how to determine the quality of your harvested reources, etc. I had fun and got a decent harvest in the process. I even got a "You sure know a lot about hunting animals" from him.

That's part of why I came back, some people see the word Ranger over my head and think "wow, gimped profession". Others see it and think "wow, that guy must know how to survive". The profession needs a lot of work, but being a ranger is really all I want to do now. A friend of mine knew I was kind of up in the air about what I wanted to do during the respec since I didn't want to drop rifleman/master marksman or master scout, and I really didn't want to take up MBH since I prefer PvE. She said "When you first read about the professions in SWG, what is it that you really wanted to do?" Well, I dropped master marksman so I could go all the way in ranger, and I'm glad I did. Sure, I'd like to see some improvements to the profession. In fact I feel it's imperative that we get them, so I'm sticking with it.

Just my feelings about it.

Happy hunting!

In all likelihood, they'll have to pry my Master Ranger tag off of my cold and half-devoured corpse....

I've never actually influenced anyone to become a ranger (at least that I know of), but it's always been worth seeing the reactions of people when they see me recuperating from my latest set of wounds in the HTFB; for something that has so little benefit, it sure is one of the best attention-getters in the game. And while none of the folks I've helped out and taught how to hunt have gone ranger, they've all kept some scouting skill, and always remember to ask me along for their hunts.

This is the reason I will not respec out of ranger. They can farm away our abilities across various professions, but we're the only ones who have those abilities in one place. While it matters to me that we're being made less unique in the game, as long as *I* can still camo, can build camps, can use my traps with at least some effectiveness, can forage for temp buffs-there is no reason for me to leave.

If Ranger is fun for you, then it doesn't matter what anyone else is doing. I'll remain aMaster Ranger / Master Creature Handler. I think it's fun, and I get a huge Pity Generation bonus. I don't wear either of my Master pins in public, but I think I might change that if only to show that we are still here.

I will always be a Ranger... if my Ranger character goes jedi (just for the extra character) my new character will be a ranger. I love this profession and have a ton of fun with it

/salute to all of you who are staying faithful to your prof. /doublesalute to any who take the time to show a new player the ins and outs of the game, and life as a Ranger particularly. You have my respect and admiration, but more to the point, you've reminded yourself of how much there is to enjoy in the game just by being yourself, being friendly and playing your profession well.

(*** EDIT: CuchulainnDarklight, I've bene meaning to ask... I know that "Cuchulainn" is the name of a hero/demigod from Irish mythology. What I don't know is,how do you pronounce it? "Cochlan"? Thanks in advance! ***)

Well im ranger no more on my character - however he will be a jedi in one month so ill have a second character who i will retrain as a ranger!

I think after 2 years I deserve a month were I can actually take part in the rest of the game without major penalities - I still have novice scout and must be the only one who regularly pops camps, chucks traps and, masks scent though!

Oh and its pronounced like Cu (as in CUff) Hu (as in HUff) Lainn!
