Thread: This weeks correspondent report (feedback: what is going on)

Just to give you all an update:

Q3P0 has asked correspondents to hold off sending further submissions until they can address the ones that have already been submitted (which makes sense).

I shot an email to the Ranger designer just asking how things were going, and he said basically they are concentrating on getting the "big" patch (July...the stuff on the In Development page) ready for release - they are going through a lot of test/fix cycles to make sure that they don't release a bad patch. Once that is done, they expect to start addressing the correspondent reports in more earnest fashion.

I am continuing to collect issues, suggestions, ideas and maintaining a list of good threads for the next report, and I will continue to keep you all advised of any news I get. Once the 'big patch' gets released, we should start seeing some progress towards our issues, and I will resume the thursday rough draft, friday submission routine.

I did send in a comment to Q3P0 about just anyone being able to pick up camp control panels, and that it was a significant source of irritation/frustration (griefing) that needs to be addressed.

The fact that they are taking the time to ensure a stable patch is good news, despite the frustration it can cause. The fact that they want to wait until they have more resources available to address the correspondent reports is good news, it means they want to be able to focus on community concerns, rather than dividing their attention. I know this all sounds like "delays, delays, delays," and it can be somewhat frustrating...I share that frustration...I want to see some progress as much as the rest of you do. Be patient, and bide your time and skill up while they get the big patch ready - once they finish the patch and get into correspondent concerns, we should start seeing some of the good things I have been talking about being announced.

Thank you for the update.

So we likely won't be seeing any feedback to our submissions at all until the beginning of next week at the very soonest, given that Q said elsewhere that that's when the patch will probably go live. Wonderful. I'm frankly very disappointed with the devs that in all their experience they planned this Correspondent system so poorly, telling us it would be a weekly cycle and then taking four weeks to make their first concrete responses back to the community. /sigh.

I'd also be interested to know how fully formed the dev's plans for the profession are likely to be when we do hear from him (him? her?). I've been going along with a vague notion that it will be a weekly dialogue back and forth hammering out features and fixes with an equal measure of what's feasible (their end) and what's desired (our end), yet as I think about it, I may be jumping to conclusions. Is it taking this long because the dev has read our ideas and then run with them, and will be presenting, "Ok, here's what rangers are getting, the code went to Test Center this morning"? Mineras, if you could clarify how much input we'll be allowed to make beyond the initial list submissions, or ask the dev about that, that would be great.

How fully formed are the designers plans? Well, he gave me a list of "some" of the things he was working on, and I was like "wow", this is some pretty cool stuff, and right along the lines of what the community has been asking for. So, to answer that question, I'd say they are well formed and in line with what the community has been asking for (for those things I did get to see).

The reason it is "taking this long" is they don't really want to get too far into handling the correspondent reports until they get this patch out. As far as the process...its supposed to go something like this (week to week) - correspondent gathers issues and on Friday presents a 'top 5' list and descriptions, with the option to link threads, and allowed one personal "pet peeve" issue. They thentake those lists, and form a punch list. They take that punch list and have meetings to discuss the items on those lists. From those meetings, feedback is generated and sent back to the correspondent, who then takes it to the community.

That is the process as I understand it. The big delay is this gi-normous patch...they are putting the majority of their effort into getting it stable and released. Once that is off their chest, then they plan on hitting the correspondent issues.

I have asked the designer if there is any tidbit, even a generalized statement about what he has in the works that I can post for you all to see and discuss, at least to give us something to chew on til the "real" feedback hits the stage.

Thank you Mineras!!!

You have won me over with this post.... I really appreciate your efforts.... and thank you for making this thread sticky.. that helps a lot

I'm very glad that there is a Dev out there who is thinking of us Rangers...

For anyone who hasn't taken the time, go read some of the other correspondant reports and realize just how solid Mineras is.

Great work Mineras. Thank you for the information.

Those who are complaining about the length of time and that they are frustrated by the time it has taken to address our issues can't have played EverQuest.

Think about waiting 3 years for the devs to even acknowledge a problem... these guys are doing a great job. You people will have a valid point when they totally ignore us in, let's say, six months.

This is all that I think many of us are looking for right now...just something to show us that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

I understand the time frame. I'm really looking foreward to this big patch next week...hopefully it nails down all the bread and butter issues with the core game and fring class issues. If the patch holds true to the notes, it'll be a really good base to begin the class discussions.

you want instant gratification, go play ps2, this is a huge game thats going to evolve, its not like they can hotfix the classes just cuz a few are impatient...

Hmm, I should rephrase the question. Is it going to be...

A) We submit our ideas ("more utility for camps", summary paragraphs, etc.), dev says, "gotcha, I'll take it from here," and he and the other devs work out all the details and surprise us with the finished code going to Test Center (making us say "wow, neat way to do it," or "ah, that isn't what I'd envisioned at all").

OR

B) We submit our ideas, dev says, "hmm, ok, #1 is easy, #2 isn't feasible, #3 could work but give me more specifics on how you see it being implemented." We respond again, back and forth with us and the dev somewhat equally hammering out the final details until dev says, "ok, we're all happy with this, right? I'm sending it to the programmers."

I'm hoping for B.
