The rescue ability doesn't seem to work very well for me. I click on the player that I want to rescue and use the rescue ability, but the creatures never come after me. Am I supposed to click on the creature and use the rescue command, so that the computerknows what creature to distract?

you target the player to rescue, but it only works if that player is not attacking or in combat, so they must hit peace when you try and rescue them.

Rescue = suicide.
It is the least known and the hardest to use of the Ranger abilities, and ends up killing the Ranger.
Unless you have schooled your friends on how it works, and can get them to peace as soon as you hit rescue, it doesn't work too well. Granted, if you can get it to work to pull a beastie off a friend, and then kite on the beast, it works. TN works well in this instance.
I honeslty have not used this in months.

Works fine for me. My rifleman/CM friend and a BH hunting buddy of his were getting beat on, so I "rescued" the CM so he could heal us.
Who ever thought a rifleman could make such a good tank against enraged rancors?
Btw, they didn't need to peace out. If it doesn't work the first time, try again.

A while ago someone posted a very nice Rescue Macro. I will dig it up when home, but the premise of it was.
1) target the person to be rescued
2) /shout %tt, I am attempting to rescue you, disengage now
3) /pause 1
4) /rescue %tt
5) /shout Please disengage from Combat!
6) /pause 1
7) /rescue %tt
8) /pause 1
6) /assist %tt
7) /ui action toolbarSlotxx (usually a dart or a adhsive trap)
8) /burstrun
So you string that baby all together and give it a shot.
Can't remember who had this out first, the only modifications I made to it were doing a rescue ttwice, since sometimes 1 isn't enough. And I added a burst run after the trap goes off to give me a chance to get the**** away. ![]()

Ah, no wonder I could never get it to work! I had no idea the person had to /peace first.
Is there some in-game place that this stuff is documented? I learn so much from the forums that it seems like I should already know...
Does /rescue work with pets?

I actually got this to work tonight!!
I was SO impressed as I hauled a family of gurks off my doctor...
...and then realised I wasn't buffed or wearing armour and that's why I was staying 60m away in the first place.
But it worked!!
err... yeah...

ahh, /rescue... one of my favorite ranger abilities... despite it frequently being called suicide..
couple of things can affect whether or not /rescue works... 1. your rescue mod - at least, by the existence of the mod i assume this has something to do with its affectiveness, and i've noticed more successes at master than i did at trapping 1... 2. the rescuee still fighting the creatures...
i usually wait until people are trying to get away before i /rescue them, usually in this case they are already /peaced out... something to keep in mind, you can do this from a prettyfar away, so start getting some distance before you /rescue...
anybody know if /rescue works on NPCs?... i've never had the opportunity to test this, but i've found a few circumstances where this would make certain objectives easier (usually only when i needed to be rescued, heh)... could even make ranger a vital member of the group on missions like the corvette...

I am not sure what you mean Kago, but it used to work on NPCs...the problem was that you could force someone into PvP if you rescued a NPC that they were attacking. The most common version was:
BH attacks mark.
You /rescue mark.
BH is now attacking you.
If you mean a situation more like this:
Stormies are attacking a Reb NPC.
You /recue Reb NPC.
Stormies are now attacking you.
I don't know if that works...

I think he meant can you rescue players from NPCs. So could you rescue a Bounty Hunter from his Mark, not the other way around.
I haven't used rescue in so long I actually cannot remember. I can remember trying it - I don't remember if it actually worked.

oh yeh... heh, sorry for the confusion...
i meant to rescue a player from an NPC, as per your first example... i remember that little bug, was the fix for it to make marks attackable by all or to alter /rescue?... heh, or both - first /rescue, then marks - so that the /rescue change wasn't needed?...
i've just been doing the corvette a lot lately, helping folks out... there are a couple of spots where you have to be out of combat (ex: conversing with the prisoners).. wasn't sure if a ranger could help or not, as i'm usually the one trying to converse...
i know you're no longer a smuggler/ranger calculus, but just so it's said... the /rescue, /feigndeath combo is so incredibly handy... besides the obvious ease it adds to actually saving another's life, there are a few specific instances that it is almost the only way to go... helping a BE sample mutant rancors, for example... we had a system, and i swear no other BE could keep up...
