Thread: Lowca Ranger Consortium: An Idea and an opportunity to help each other out.

The Background

In order to make money, I have noticed that most of us Rangers take contracts from Armorsmiths, Doctors, BE etc, or we sell our grind stuff on the bazaar or we give/ sell to guildies. However, there seems to be a huge demand for high quality and grind material that none of us can really meet. This prompted me to propose a loose organization and a consortium so that we Rangers can start to make some good money doing what we do best.

The Concept
Currently I am working on finishing pikeman, (im having a blast btw) and I have noticed that there are several Rangers on Lowca. My idea is to collectively sell our hides, meat and bone in a centralized location in a building that we would own, decorate and maintain. I have a lot of contracts and a lot of contacts, whenever I log on, I have 3 or 4 emails from friends asking me if I would get 80k of meat, 50k hide...etc. Some of these I take, others I dont... I can never keep up with the demand, and fortunately my friends allow me to have fun too. Here goes the plan.

  • I will purchase a PA hall and set it up in either Corellia or Naboo, since that is where the largest traffic of people come through.
If this idea goes through, I would prefer setting this hall up in either a metropolis, or in the middle of nowhere. If we set up in an established city, there is the potential for stupid politics to interfere with us. I am leaning toward a non-city location.

  • All of my lots are currently tied up with houses and harvesters, so I would need someone from another server to place the PA hall.

  • After I finish pikeman, I will grind my way to Merchant and place several vendors in the PA hall. One for meat, one for hides, one for bone, and the rest will be for miscellaneous stuff that people would want to sell. If we need more than 3 vendors, then I will make arrangements for that as well, the only thing I can think of right now would be organic loot, like rancor bile or kliknik glands... something like that.

  • Whenever I get a contract for organics, I will send an email out to the Ranger group so that we can focus on that resource. Participation in organic collection is completely voluntary. I will make no demands and only a few requests. Whenever you get a contract, I would hope that you would share the information .

  • When the vendors are up and running, since we cant split profits directly from the vendor...I will buy from you, raise the price a bit to cover maintenance for the bulding and the vendors, and I will place the resources directly on the vendor for sale to the public.

  • One of the main problems that I have had, is the inventory issue, I usually have tons of scrap organics taking up space in my house, in my backpack, in my inventory. This way, all of our scrap organic could go to good use. (making us money)

  • One potential problem or concern that I would see, is that I would be skeptical to trust someone else with my money... that is why I would purchase from you, then re-sell it. Oppma and I have had a good thing going for a while, and would like for the other Lowca Rangers to benefit from this as well.

  • A key issue is trust. If you join the collective, you gain admin to the building... I want to make this business as clear and visble as possible. I know most of you from the forums, and the hunts, and I can say that I would have no problem with this.

  • Another idea, is that we combine our creative talents to make this PA hall a semi-ranger environment. I will put some of my BE pets in the house to give it a "natural history feel"

  • Lastly, we need to name this PA hall and our consortium.

I thought that the Outer Rim Rangers would be kind of cool. If you have any naming suggestions, let me know .

This is just a thought and a proposal, I appreciate any and all suggestions, questions or critiques. I just wanted to let you all know that I am serious about this and to what lengths I am willing to go to so this can happen.

    Thanks.

I could be convinced to start a character there to become a Merchant and maintain the vendors and place the guild hall. This would only be a part time character (i.e. I would just use him long enough to stock vendors and distribute payments), but it keeps you guys from having to give up skill and lots.

I'm not on Lowca, but I just wanna step in to give a little props for the initiative. I don't think it's entirely new, but it's going to take quite some effort and time to get it going properly, and anyone who is willing to step up and do that for the community is a hero

Hope it works out, one of the biggest general lacks in SWG is the ease of commodity trading. Instead there is the necessity to know specific people to get contracts and make sales. Not everyone has the connections to get a 5 millioncredit deal on something and ends up having to sell their 100K hide by the K to people in Coronet. If this thing takes, it should provide a reliable place to make some steady money. I'll cross my fingers for ya

You might be able to save a few lots by using a large house instead of a PA hall (also giving more storage room with a few small houses). The only reason to use a PA hall is if you want it to be a guild (which you might). And the same person from another server that places the building could quite easily grind to merchant for you, as Calc already offered(it takes minimal extra time but saves you on skill points). It also means that a merchant nerf won't poof your vendors. The main problem with this method is actually putting the stuff on the vendors (I think you need to be the owner). But I've never had a vendor so I can't say.

As for actual vendors, you might want to do: "Grind Quality", "Good Quality", "Uber Quality and Loot". Saves on vendor space and should level out the amount of stuff.

I'll go for it. Seems like alot of work on your behalf. I tried Merchant, just wasn't good at it. Never really sold much. If you want to start on a smaller scale with housing, I have at least one of everything. No lots....but houses. My alt has lots but truth is....she's unreliable.

Would need cross server help to hold a hall. Ummmm.....thinking.

Hmmm...I think I like the idea of the large house too. Just saves space and it's basically the same thing as the guild hall minus the PA affilliation.

Unforunately you do have to be the owner to place stuff on the vendor. Anyone can sell items to the owner of the vendor, but the owner would have to log in and buy all that stuff at like 1cpu and then turn around and sell it back at the appropriate price. It could be done if the person holding the vendors stopped over there once or twice a week to buy the offered resources andresold them.

    Agon,

Sounds like a great way to get all the rangers and there stuff together in one location, maybe help with setting costs and all. I look forward to seeing how this Idea works out.

    Right:

There are two ways we can do this...
While I appreciate the offer calc, I would hate for you to log into lowca, /tip everyone their share, logout, and then go off in the wilderness muttering about newbs crawling over the pristine face of Tatooine. Plus that would put you responsible for maintaining all the vendors, stocking them, it would be a huge pain in the arse for you.

However, I have no problem going merchant for a bit. I can grind up to Novice Merchant in about 45 minutes.

I like the Large house Idea too. Its practical and easy and probably less expensive.

So, I can set the vendors myself...or....

the participants can agree to temporarily get Artisan skills so that you can place your own vendor in the House.

Whatever works. I know this sounds like a lot of work on my part, but after hunting with some of you all on Saturday, I feel comfortable entering this, confident that it will be a good thing.

Does anyone have any name suggestions?

In any case, I am totally willing to do this

I'm in. Also I have an alt that has some merchant and I could probably pursuade my guild mates to let me drop a vendor if we needed it. He is also a master chef so if any of you use veghash let me know and i'll make you some good stuff(freeeeeeee if you bring me the resources to make it). I also like the idea of a house instead of a PA hall. On a side note, one of my hard drives died on Monday so im in the process of reloading all my apps so I might not be able to get in game until Friday or Saturday.

On another note the Veghash offerwill only begoodfor the Rangerswho are part ofthe Consortium. Anyone else will still have to pay.

    thanks Shubacca

right now I am leaning toward a

Medium Naboo house, its cheap to buy, cheap for maintenance and we can fit a lot of stuff in it.
(its also easy to navigate with the huge front room)

I will try a place near Theed if this is ok...

Also, im in the middle of some nasty summer school biochem classes, and i wont have any substantial play time until next week.

thanks again, I will keep you all in touch
