While I was wandering around the vanishing wilds of Dantooine, I recieved a report that a big medical corporation on Naboo was contacting hunters about large quantities of herbivore meat from Yavin. Not great pay, but I hadn't been there for a while, and a littleescape to an unpopulated planet sounded like just the thing.

I landed at the mining outpost and the place was like a ghost town. Just the way I like it. I wondered to myself if the Geonosians had raided the place to retaliate against the attacks on their research facility. I called my faithful steed, Speederbike Swoop, and headed to the west, where I was sure to find herds of fat and healthy tybis. They would prove easy prey for me and my new T-21.

It was nice and quiet out there in the foothills. The land was lush and green, and the spring herds were plentiful. I couldn't swing a dead durni without hitting one of their lairs. I could, however, swing a whole pack of kimos without hitting another humanoid!

For three days, I hunted and harvested. For three days, I saw not a single humanoid soul. For three days, I remembered why I picked up this line of work. On the third day, I recieved a message from my engineer friend. The nuke plants had finished their mining run, and it was time to move the operation. So with a pack full of meat and hide, I saddled up and headed back to the starport. *sigh* Back to civilization...

Anyway, that was a great trip for me. It was also tthe first time I had hunted as a Master Rifleman. I didn't realize it would be such a huge jump from 4434 to Master. There weren't any doctor buffs available while I was there, at least not any I was willing to drive 6k for, so armor was out of the question. This makes me a big-time soft target. However, I did have a good supply of BE brandy (+400/50% fill) and Canape (+600/30% fill), so I would be able to toss specials all the live long day.

I found that just one drinking just one brandy at a time was enough to keep me firing the specials at most of the small spawns I came across, and it kept my belly empty enough to keep drinking them when I sober-- I mean, when the effects wore off.Wolfing down a canape gave me enough energy to get through the bigger lairs.

The whole time I was there, I was attacked four times, and I only took damage twice. I only needed the stims to heal the damage my T-21 did to me.

I guess all that is rifleman stuff as far as the fighting goes, but more than that was the overall effect of the trip. I was a nice trip to the virtual great outdoors. I highly recommend it to all of you rangers who are rangers but you don't know why. You will feel all the ranger-y goodness. You will forget that no one thinks we're broken enough to get fixed. You will forget about BHs and Jedi. Even though this could easily be done with any profession, it's different when you're a ranger.

Cities? Rangers don't need no stinkin' cities! In fact, with only 256 MB RAM (yes, really), I hate going to cities. I also hate interplanetary travel. And cloning. And Coronet. And Theed. And... well, let's just say I needed a speed slice on my RAM, but I got a damage slice instead.

So much for interdependancy! Great story, and it may be worth showing to the Devs when they ask why Rangers should be interdependant!.

Well, I am naturally dependant on weaponsmiths for weapons, chefs for brandy (sweet sweet brandy) and canapes, doctors for good sitms, and smugglers for slices and drugs, er, mind stims, yeah, that's it,Muon ismedicine. Or food, you eat it, right? Plus, if I want to hunt higher-end content, then that is best done in a group.

However, the 40% group harvest penalty makes hunting resources solo the best option for me. I can't see it as harvesting 70 units of meat, I can only see the 30 units I don't harvest.

Great storyTalKurgan

I am also going the route of Master Ranger (already there) and Master Riflewoman 3-2-3-3. I was wondering though, is it really that big of a jump when I finally make Master Riflewoman to where i am now? I have been following this forum for sometime now and feel the same way many others do that rifle is one of the better professions to compliment Ranger

I found the speed bump at Master Rifleperson to be pretty shocking. This also makes the mind drain pretty shocking.

I haven't gone group hunting, so I haven't used Advanced Strafe a lot yet, but it does hit pretty hard. For individual targets, the /mindshot2, /headshot3 combo takes them down pretty fast.

Oh, yeah, I also don't miss in PvE if I go prone. 256 MB RAM keeps me out of the PvP competition, so I haven't tried anything out there either.

Beautiful, try taking a wander round Dathomir, away from thearmies ofrancor murderers and it can be quite a beautiful place, that was what i thought as i sat on the side of a smal rise enjoying the rolling planes, deep valleys and emotive sky's....before getting jumped on by a gang of witches some fool on a swoop dragged right on top of me! Ah well, pity i hate armour, cloning and buffing too.....

AS ranger i enjoy wondering arround the wilderness. Before i took up ranger i had the graphic set to low to allow the cities to flow better. Now as ranger the graphics are set to max and the wilderness look SOOOOOOOOO much better. Actually have to use radar to find my kills on some planets because the fauna is so heavy.

a quick note for all: Macro the following command.

\flushg fullreset

the lags you get are the cache. by running that it clears the cache and instant improvement in fram rate.

I think you just stumbled upon my usual play style. The main difference is that I usually skip the mind food. On Yavin, I can use a Laser Rifle on autofire to kill most stuff. Although they do start to attack before they die. On Dathomir and Endor, I need to use a better gun (depending on damage type I'll swap between a T21 and whatever gun will cut through the resists). On most other planets, a Laser will be enough to kill almost anything. And it saves cost (weapons degrade a lot faster once you hit Master as well). As for the speed increase, just remember that the difference between 80% speed and 90% speed will change your speed from 2 seconds to 1 second. An 8.0 speed T21 will fire at 1.6 speed with +80 Rifle Speed (for autofire). +90 speed drops a 10.0 speed attack down to 1.0 speed. The difference is very noticeable.

Wow, I thought I was the only one that plays like that. I started the game with the goal of having a toon that could go most anywhere and hunt or just explore. Just food and spices - decent armour.

I'm rifle - track 4 and mid level ch. I hunt for my creds and can take my time just walking around or riding my bike. I play to relax and thats how I do it.

Hehe no - I think a lot of us do. Great post. I myself live for all of the unusual things I stumble across when I'm out hunting for things -- the spaceship debris and graveyards on Yavin always make it worth my time to go there even if I don't ever seem to return with as much resources as I would have if I had just simply run missions out of one of the outposts.

Oh, one thing that you can do to help see the creatures for all of the foliage is crank up the distance that labels are visible from (and enable labels to be visible for everything) in your options -- I don't have the game open in front of me so I'm not sure what the exact option is. Even if an angler is obscured by one of those big bushes, I can still see its label.
