Thread: Area track filter

I'm currently hunting on Endor, the wooly is good on FarStar just now.

I'm picking up some missions, but I'm mostly prefaring to hike around area tracking for wild spawns. However I'm getting a little frustrated with something.

Most of the times when I have picked up something wooly, I've made my way all the way over to the creatures I detected, only to find that it was a mission spawn. This leaves you in a (moral) no-win situation. You either do the dirty and take out a strangers mission, or you walk away, having gone way out of your way, and walk away from valuable hide. Neither option makes you feel very good about what you're doing.

Kind of a pipe dream, but it might be nice if we only could track wild(non-mission) creatures. Then we know for sure we aren't wasting our time tracking down creatures which are morally someone else's kills.

What about an extra searcheable? LAIRS.

That way, you know that resource x drops from creatures that live in y lairs, and theres both x and y in that direction at that range...

Least it still makes it look like we're 'looking' for something.

(Also, how can I do a /who and see there are 4 people on a planet, yet every lair I find is a mission lair? grumble grumble... )

I spent an estimated 15 hours trying to find those damn Graul Marauders (I believe this is a conservative estimate). One of the first Jedi that I helped, told me as I was helping another to have jedi kill all Graul's (especially Ancient and frenzied)south of imp outpost 500-2500m. I have told jedi to do this now and they get them in short order. I myself have not tried killing the Graul's south of imp outpost to see if I can get a spawn, so I don't know if the spawn needs the jedi or a jedi in the area to work, but if nothing else it seems to help. Might give that a try if you're up to finding them. When I did finally find them, the Jedi I was looking for had already found them earlier that day. Got a couple buds we killed a couple of them, then headed to the krayt graveyard and found us a Krayt.

hey fellow farstar ranger

I am in the same situation as you. I solve it by doing the following:

/areatrack players. If noone is around (500 m) i take it it is not a mission. After all, the wp to a mission changes when you are 300-500 m from it. So no results in tracking players leaves me to think that its noones mission and i take the lair myself

Good hunting to you

When it comes to hunting on the no-build planets (Endor, Dath, Yavin), I've found the easiest solution is to get more than 2000M away from the outposts. I haven't spent a lot of time using the mission terminals, but I don't think they give missions more than 1800M away or so (could be wrong). Once you get out that far, you can assume pretty much any lair you find is a wild lair and fair game. With the increased amount of creatures generated from wild lairs, missions terminals seem like a very inefficient way to gather creature resources.

Watch out now, the logic gap is showing...

The situation could easily be like this:

You>-------------300meters----------------->creature>----------------300meters--------------->player.

in this scenario, you're in range to track the creature, but not in range to track the player.

Easiest way to tell-- if it's a mission lair, it will say the name of the creature in it-- something like "Baz Nitch lair". If it's not, it will describe the lair, something like "pile of bones" or something like that. If it has a creature name in the lair name, it's a mission. If it doesn't, it a natural spawn.

This is horrible! I return to find my new title on the forum is "Jedi". What's up with that? If they wanted to confer that I'm rare and learned, they'd make my title RANGER. and then make it camo colored.

On topic but different idea.

If you are seeing a mission spawn, that means the owner has been there or close enough to there to force the spawn. Do /ar and see if there are players in the area. If not, I figure the owner got wasted trying to do the mission and is now sitting in a medcenter someplace.

I have been know to sit at a mission spawn, dropping randoms for over 25 minutes waiting on the owner, who never reappeared. I then dropped the mission. Fact is, some "expert" on another forum said to increase earnings, before logging out take two missions, force the spawn and then log out. There was a better than even chance the lairs would be dropped while he was gone, and he got paid in absentia.

I figure I stumble across your spawned mission, and you are not there - I wait a decent amount of time, check using /ar and then drop the lair. At least you get paid.

Well, also, there is the possibility of close waypoints. When taking missions, I always try to find some that are in the same general area-- not just direction, but distance. Often times that means that I get within 500m of both, the WP jumps and i go off to chase one or the other. That means the other is still spawned, but I may no longer be within 500m of it.

I find i prefer to leave lairs alone if they have the name of one that's mission-based. Better to play nice than to steal some new players' mission. Happened to me a few times and it stinks. Be the better person and don't steal lairs. It's just not polite.

well, couldn't be sure...plus, the person could have two lairs like this....

you>--5meters>lair>----------------->600meters>-------------------------player>----5m--->lair

at one point, the player could have been in range to spawn both lairs, but then went to one rather than the other, and is now out of tracking range. Or they could be group hunting and accidentaly spawned the lair on the way to another persons' lair that is out of your tracking range.

i still stand by my point-- don't kill lairs with creature names in them-- you never know what's going on.

oh, never thought about it beeing 2 lairs (thanks for the input)

i see your point, lairs that have xxxx lairs are always mission generated, so i tend not to do them, but sometimes i cant resists, especially if i have tried to find a wild spwawn for some time and have come up empty.

i had an idea the other day....

at master ranger you can get a quest

this quest leads you all over the galaxy in search of components.

at the end of this quest you can assemble this "thing" be it something that you can just equip, or it is a driod component... who knows.

this "thing" that you makewill take the ranger tracking skill to a new level. when you are activley using it, it will continually scan the ranger radius searching for things. you would be able to sort the list by things like name direction distance etc. it would constantly update (or maybe just refresh) but you would be able to use it on a mount, on a speeder etc.

this was just something that i was thinking after i spent HOURS tracking for the knight quest..... (friggin graul marauders)

just a thought

Grumble Graul Marauders Grumble

Agreed, some kind of active tracking skill/tool would be very nice walking x distance to track again and again and again in search of super rare spawns seems less like being a ranger than I dunno something else
