Ok. We have a correspondent now. Check here for the old thread but we really need to get things together now. The next post in this will be what I currently am proposing as the letter to send to the various communities. Please post comments on it. As for the people who want to help, please post what crafting forum you would be interested in doing. The sooner we get this out, the sooner it can be fixed. Please look at the last thread if you have any questions (the idea migrated a bit from the beginning to the end of the post). The general idea is to post a message to all the crafter forumsthat use organics asking for them to help us get the harvest mod fixed and to up the trapping effectiveness mod. To remind you, the boards thatmight need posting: Architect, Armorsmith, Artisan, Bio-Engineer, Chef, Combat Medic, Doctor, Medic, [Smuggler for spices...,] and Tailor. The post will be made by Calc and/or Delta (if they agree) with another member of the scout/ranger community following up on the post and answering questions.

Dear [insert profession name here]:

The current availability of organic resources is very limited. This has led to crafters needing to offer insane amounts of money for resources they need to produce the best goods. As it stands now, a combat oriented character with Novice Scout is able to harvest more than a Master Ranger. This isbecause they can kill creatures much faster and the harvesting bonus gained at Master Ranger only allows a player to harvest about twice as much as a Novice Scout [ed note: see this thread for more info, this is the edit]. This means that the person who would like to sell you resources on a more regular basis (and is therefore likely to have invested more skill points into a Scout related profession) is unable to provide you with the resources you need.

The Ranger [and Scout--let us know if the scouts want to join us on this, Delta] [community /communities][is / are] asking for your help. We realize that developer time is extremely limited and are therefore only asking for minor changes at the present time. To this end, we would like to know if your community is willing to support us in a push to increase the effectiveness of the harvesting and trapping skill mods to help us supply you with the resources you need. This is not a solution to the problem but it should help until a proper pass of the Ranger and Scout professions can be performed. [Name] will attempt to follow this thread and answer any questions you might have. Please support us in this push.

The following points attempt to summarize the situation as it stands:

  • Crafters need high quality resources to continue their businesses. Because of a lack of resources, crafters are forced to pay enormous amounts of money for these resources.
  • The lack of resources is largely due to the professional harvesters (mainly high level scouts and rangers) getting very little benefit from their skills.
  • Currently, a Master Ranger gets about twice the resources of a Novice Scout (with a 125 skill point cost difference).
  • Currently, a Master Ranger gets about 30% more resources than a Master Scout (with a 63 skill point cost difference).
  • Spending skill points in Scout and Ranger means that the Scout or Ranger can not spend those points on combat skills.
  • Someone that spends most of their skill points on combat skills and relatively few on a Scouting related profession can harvest much more than a dedicated Scout or Ranger because they can kill larger creatures much more easily.
  • Trapping skills are designed to assist the Ranger or Scout in killing their prey. Some of the traps do provide useful effects but they hit very rarely on any target for which most Scouts or Rangers would need them for.
  • If the effectiveness of the Trapping and Creature Harvesting skill mods was increased then Scouts and Rangers would be better able to supply crafters with the resources they need.
  • Such a change should be easy and quick to implement as it only requires changing the way the skill mod is checked. As the Creature Harvesting skill mod only appears to apply when attempting to harvest a creature, this should be easy to change. As the Trapping skill mod only appears to apply when throwing a trap at a creature in combat, this should also be easy to change.
  • Given the extra supply provided by such an increase, it is likely that crafters would no longer need to offer such high bounties on organic resources in order to get what they want.
  • Such a solution is only a partial fix. Scouts and Rangers will still have many problems but these changes should help increase the general supply of resources and help to mitigate the inflation present in most servers' economies.

Sincerely,

The [Scout and] Ranger Correspondent[s]

I'm all for this. Unfortunately, I'd not be a good one to offer assistance as I am not a crafter beyond my traps, camps and camo kits, and am not an active member of any community other than the Ranger forums. However, if you absolutely need someone to cover one of the crafting boards, count me in. I won't have the best rapport, but I'm sure I'm better than no one at all.

I have had some interaction with just about all those communities lately with my "Beyond Master" threads. So whichever community, if any, you want me to remain in contact with on this, I will gladly offer my help. Just let me know.

I completely support this idea and proposal.

Nemo0...nice job on the proposal it was clear, precise, accurate and addressed the points that we wanted to make.

On a seperate note, I have talked to a lot of my contacts on lowca and ran this general idea by them, they told me that if we got boosted they would fall over themselve with glee. They would really look foward to higher yields, lower prices and a better relationships with the ranger community.

thanks again Nemo0...wow...good job

I ran this idea past the other Correspondents on the Correspondent forum, and all of the responses I got (7ish) were amicable....Tomorrow I may send it out to the other forums.

Cheer, my own rasp. Now if only a BE could make me one in game...

As for the helping follow a post, no crafting experience is really needed. We would be there to answer the Ranger side of things. They are the experts in crafting. As it is, I would hope that the post itself is clear enough that people shouldn't have too many problems with it. At worst, bring the question up on this board and we can all put our collective minds together to get an answer (I am not a crafter but I have plenty of friends who are).

As for sending it out, good to hear. Feel free to put me as one (or more) of the contacts as well. It would be very useful if you could also post links to the threads here (along with what name/names you put on what thread) so that we can properly follow up. I just hope it works.

Ah..

let me clarify...not contacts on the Lowca boards, but AS, Chefs, Docs, who are my ingame contacts...some of them regularly post on the forums, others dont, I will craft an email to my friends letting them know to share their positive ideas.

So, let's get to editing this, or is it perfect already?
