Thread: Mutually agressive creatures

I'd like to ask the Rangers about their knowledge of a useful piece of information of which I know only a little, and that is "mutually agressive creatures".

The primary example from me (and only one I know) comes from my primary hunting ground of Dathomir.

I spend a lot of time hunting Rancors, primarily in Rancor Valley, mainly to combine my enjoyment of hunting, with the odd piece of loot/junk and plenty of hides or meat. I never wear armour, though I do sometimes (well normally, to be honest) use buffs - more to deal with the HAM costs of my weapons then defend against damage taken.

Anyhow, often when I'm fighting Rancors I try and make sure I know if there are any Malklocs in the vicinity. More than once I've had my self saved by luring a Rancor stomping towards me into a pack of Malklocs, who always end up attacking the Rancor and tanking for me.

Now this to me is exactly the kind of knowledge that can seperate us from the average hunter and it's something I intend on working on learning more about - using the creatures of the wilds as our friends is that real touch that epitomises the Ranger I feel.

Do you know of any more mutually agressive creature types, and are there any other real wilderness survival tips you've learned in your exploits and adventures as a Ranger?

*prepares to watch a great thread happen right before his eyes*

Great topic Camby!!!

I haven't done any actual hunting in a while, so I don't remember the combinations i had discovered. I did notice the other day that Crackdown Stormtroopers were assisting my guid (covert rebels) in taking down some aggresive gackle bats. I have not seen this assitive behavior when I was engaged with non-aggressive critters, except from same faction NPCs.

If I feel the need to run from a critter, my general rule is to run through the nearest group of red in the hopes that my persuer will get distracted.

One NPC/Creature is Kungas and Huurtons. I have to talk to my guild because we have many on Dant that qualify for this

I've had enraged rancors break off from charging me to attack brackasets. Similar to your experience with malklocs.

Frequently use the local ST's, or RSF, or the Tusk Cat riders, to assist with big critters on Naboo. They will 99% of the time attack and take a pasting for you. Lovely.

creature/creature pairings I've found recently are the gronda and sharnaaf on Corellia, sharnaaf and rasps, Corellia.

Tatooine I seem to remember bocatt being useful for dragging aggroed NPC's into (while am concealed) but haven't noticed may pairings. Drag anything near a squill and it's 50/50 who is going to get attacked.

y'know, this calls for some proper testing on TC....

oh, am d'l another patchypoo... ah well. later.

On Yavin 4 I've found that Mawgaxes will attack Stintrails (useful it you're hunting leather for Kashyyykian ceremonial armour). Also Mawgaxes and Anglers will sometime pick on each other, but it's less likely.

I concur with the comment about Kunga's and Huurtons. I've had a Kunga come over and help me out by beating a few over their head with a big stick, then roam off again, leaving me in one piece.

I didn't use buffs or uber armour, so why did the combat revamp have to spoil my game?

Hmmm...

On Naboo you can drag a charging Famba into a tusk cat lair or plains hunter(or the other way around)

On Tat I have used Banthas to clear off the annoyed bocatt or dune lizard

My Favorite is when my buff runs out dragging that last couple critters into a squad of Stormtroopers or RSF commandos Talk about extra fire power...

OnTalus -

Most NPCs of the "good" variety - CORSEC, Belladonna's League, Fed Dub - will assist if you have decent faction standing with them.

Rebel and Imp NPCs often assist, regardless of your faction.

Wrix and panthers assist. Only make sure you get the reds to aggro, the rest follow along.

Rasps tend to assist, as will most flyers.

Robor (the pig thingies) will assist, but you have to get the female to start the show.

90% of the bugs will assist, but on a one time deal. They will help once, then not again, even on the same lair.

Paralopes will sometimes assist, but who cares, they die right off.

Seems if it is red on Talus, it will fight any already aggro'd creature.

Pirates and Drall are mutually exclusive, and both will fight any other NPCs. I have wandered into several firefights caused by random spawns. Fun to "help" both sides, get some XP and loot. Also Talus Liberation Party members will fight Pirates and Drall, but usually will not start the mess, the other guys have to initiate combat.

Off the top of my head, that's it. Will update as I remember.

back in the old days (when I were a lad) and novice marksman novice scout, my favourite trick was to find a friendly (rebel) npc and proceed to start shooting the nearest creature (red dot).

Always used to make me laugh when the NPC said - "you didn't want to do that !!" or words to that effect lol.

any mob with an AOE can pull aggro from ANYTHING, even from another of the same type.

examples: (aggravated) bordok mare can throw a force strike (AOE KD attack) and pull aggro from bordok foals and studs, and other mares.

voritor types with poison spray and such can fall to infighting.

mantigrue screechers, who throw the nasty 'plague strike', can end up slamming on each other.

similarly... if you can pull these mobs towards other nonaggros (or if your mask/camo holds, to aggros) and survive long enough for an AOE attack, then skedaddle, you can usually get away without an incap (liberal use of /peace is key here).

as a noncombat ranger, I'll sometimes go out a-hunting with a heavy axe and a CDEF pistol (the axe seems to be the best dps for noncombat toons when large lairs are involved). I regularly come home with very few wounds and a stack of 10k meat/etc (and some DNA... though I miss the days of sample-kills at nonmaster BioE).

combat tends to rot the brain (as do armor and buffs)... my combat toons regularly solo gnorts and chubas, while my ranger is best advised to RUN... or be extra sneaky.

keep in mind that if you have POSITIVE faction with an NPC group, they'll almost certainly assist you with any mobs you can drag near them (I killed several mauler masters 'solo' within 15 minutes of making a new toon... I wish I had taken a screenshot of the groupchat's reactions when they saw the message 'Raphael' has looted xx credits from a mauler master.'...).

remember... if you land ONE attack on a mob, you get the harvest rights on it... just find something else to kill it, and stand clear of the battle... and wait.

patience and /peace can win the day in a lot of hunts.

Rancors also try to eat Brackersets. I have a Bracker as a mount and he goes out helps his kin every time I walk near an "altercation" between Brackers and Rancors.
