Thread: Quick Poll: Do Most of You Buy Your Metal or Mine it Yourself?

I was just wondering how many Rangers buy the metal needed for camps and some of the traps or if they mine it themselves. Personally I hate coming anywhere near a mining facility, so I buy my metal from Armorsmiths and Architects.

I buy mine. You can find all kinds of crap on the bazaar. Plus I don't want to spend 15 skill points on artisan when I can spend them on Medic.

I tried an artisan character on another server. I hate the whole act of surveying and mining. I buy mine. and since I don't need to care about quality I just search the bazaars for whoever is selling the most ammount of whatever metal and buy it.

I mine it. It is one more thing that I can sell. I have no surverying skill I just dropped a bunch of harvestors and mine what is currently good. It supplies me ample metel for myself and makes me some extra cash on the side. The way I look at it, its less I have to spend on supplies, and it makes me money even during my down time when I am not hunting. There is an initial investment to get the operation up and running, but after that I pays for itself. Even if the resources you are mining are not good quality, stick 1000 units on the bazaar for 3000 credits and it will sell. With the Holo Grind in full affect now, people do not so much care about quality anyway. The system to jedi-hood is perhaps the stupidest and most disappointing part of them game, and I am disgusted enough with it to never even bother with it unless I happen to get all professions that I like. That will never happen, so I might as well make a profit of the Holo Chasers.

Oops, started ranting there at the end, sorry

I really don't go through a lot of metal, because I don't have much use (yet) for the traps that use it. A week or two ago I surveyed in town for copper all day while I was out and have enough to last another couple weeks. That'll change when I have to drop Novice Artisan, but still, I can have a personal mineral mine up for a few days and have more metal than I'lluse in a month. Of course, that will probably change once I start making Field Bases, won't it? I hadn't thought of that.

I do both actually. When I have the money, I mine it. When I don't have the money, I buy it (I do a few missions first)

No Artisan, none, zero. I have 2 mineral and one chemical harvester. 2 micro flora farms. 2 wind gennies. One giant freaking water whosis thingy. Ran outta lots or I would have more wind gennies.

Who says ya need artisan? I take what I get, such is life. Buy metal or poly?? Are you freaking insane? I got so much I sell it. The good stuff is traded for free stuff even. Use the stuff ya get to make traps, as right now, a bad trap is as good as a great trap.

Buy metal or poly - why not just buy hide too??

I mine my own. However, I would encourage folks to work with the other classes and continue to form relationships. As a Master Ranger,my services naturallyasks artisansto buyproducts (hide/meat/bone) and they do. So in return, I ask them to send me a good survey waypoint and pay them for their services.

This way I don't have to have any artisans skills but I get exactly what I am looking for rather than just taking what I find. Sometimes it a good quality stuff....sometimes it is just any old steel but a good concentration.

I use to mine it, until I needed the skill points, now I buy it. Of course now that I am a master, I never use camps or traps anymore.

Just look for spots that are cramped with mines or generators, put your own down there, too, and you should have a high percentage spot No artisan required,

As you can see I have an Artisan (this char) and a Ranger though - I will never run out of material as the artisan has usually about 200k of Steel alone in stock

Neither. I trade, straight up, with Armorsmiths and others. Hide and Bone for them, metal and poly for me. Simple/painless and I don't have to spend creds on harvs or purchasing the resources. I like bartering rather than purchasing as much as I could.

This is horrible! I return to find my new title on the forum is "Jedi". What's up with that? If they wanted to confer that I'm rare and learned, they'd make my title RANGER. and then make it camo colored.
