Thread: I started reading the BH Trap thread (and a few other random thoughts).

Boy oh boy...first off, let me say that I did not read the whole thing, and bit my tongue as far as replying to as I am still uncertain of my position (I am MOSTLY against it, but points can be made).

TANKS..the BH correspondent had some ok ideas with his initial ideas (change posture, delay type, and whatnot). In the next 2 pages of responses, people ranged from saying BH shouldn'tget traps to BH should get defense mods instead of traps to we want a BH to be able to give noogies without getting touched (I saw one that propsed a BH trapping line with 16 or so traps). Someone also threw in the obligatiry "we want traking" thread. All in all, it was set up fairly similar to what Nraas does here, so i didn't have any complaints except for the actaul suggestions, and that was only becauseI didn't agree.

On the funny side, 2 threads above the "we can'tkill without traps" thread, a BH was boasting how he hit a faction base for 29k on his first shot and 28k on his second. He did state that that we unusual since he ususally only hits for 4-5k. That certainly sounds woefully underpowered to me. I know when I BH and had LLC 4, I was hitting for 2-4k WITHOUT specials and 6-7K with lightingsingle 2. Yeah, they ned more help. That being said, I never went after a mark, so I don't know how tough they got.

My final thought/question is, how do most of us feel about dabblers? I think they are fine since, generally speaking, you need to get level 4 in a skill for it to be effective. The BH basically hate them (I am generalizing, I know), so I couldn't resist posting about my previous exploits into dabbling.

Dabbling, in my opinion is perfectly fine.

One of the successes in the game, although at times i curse about not having enough skill points and gripe, I think that the ability to customize your character and not be forced into a rigourous role is a good idea.

BH's that keep tracking 4, great it enhances their gameplay and BH experience and it doesnt really affect us all that much.

If I wanted to, I could create a killing machine, a combat supporter, or a money making machine, or variants of the above. Dabbling imho only hurts the primary community when those who do dabble post in our threads and say that they want the other skills (but dont want to work for them) or people who lack tactics, forethought and planning get nailed by another player. Then the dabblers cry nerf or try to get what they do have unbalancing.

I dabble a lot, and I have fun doing it. I learn about the other professions and there are those that I like a lot more than others.

My only advice is that people learn how to play what they have well and not cry nerf.

Nicely put. I think you summed up the benefits of dabbling very nicely. And since the devs encourage dabbling, I am not sure how people can llok down on non-masters.

I would havenone of that in this forum!

Everyone who has Novice Ranger is considered a Ranger in my books...

I too started reading the opus they call a thread on the BH forum.

Considering they only have scout, and they get special weapons and abilities already, and they get droids - well, they don't need traps.

I took out a mark the other day by accident. For some reason the mark aggro'd on me. The mark got killed, I got some combat xp and the BH actually said TY, he got the XP for the hit and the money. Prolly a bug, but most unwelcome.

I don't see where the marks are that overpowered if a Ranger/Pistoleer can drop one with no problem. Oh, no armor, no special uber weapons, just a shirt, a Blaster and some heals.

And the, "I should be uber/leet " arguments - if they knew one thing about tactics (shooting and moving, a novel concept to those clowns) they would not die so much.

Phooey on BHs. Let em suffer for their own ignorance.

JBMat,

once again you hit the nail on the head. Tactics planning and preparation is the key to survival.

The people who complain dont really know how to use what they have, nor do they live up to their potential. My BH friend constantly complains that he cant take out marks, however, I took his char and took one out with little problems.

Did you spam stopping shot over and over JB? I would imagine not. However, these BH's that spam and die complain. A MBH is an amazing opponent and ally, however, game xp unfortunatly does not always translate into game-playing experience and tactics, they just want to stand and kill. (these are the same people who say they beat the game when they used cheat codes)

My thoughts are that dabblers opinions are just as important as master's because this is a skill based game, not a profession based game. In that sense, dabbling is encouraged to give your character a more well-rounded entity. I myself am a BH dabbler, because of the LLC. Some creatures have vulnerability to electricity and that is why.

When you read the BH forum you have to keep a few things in mind. One they are going to have suggestions you feel should be ranger abilities. Just like squad leaders reading this forum and hearing our talks on battle camps, etc. Also keep in mind that ranger community in my opinion is more mature, and more committed to the profession than the BH community. A lot of what you read is from novice BH's who thought BH was a PvP god, only to find out that BH is almost complete opposite. And that is why there is so much crying going on in that forum. I read a lot of the profession forums and I like the ranger community the best because this community always remains positive, and realistic in the ideas and suggestions. Also, NRaas is the most dedicated correspondent in the game.

But, isn't our wishlist a complaint list? "My traps don't work." "They nerfed camo." And the list goes on.

Its only a complaint if it we dont propose a solution. There is a big difference between

1) Fix traps, they dont work...Fix Camps, they disband...Fix conceal i got eaten by a durni

and

2) Traps should have more functionality, here are some suggestions for experimentation..

My point is, the intent written is usually obvious when the poster is complaining, the productive person tries to "embiggen" the entire community.

(sorry about "embiggen" i blame the simpsons for that one)
