Thread: The Top 5 Bug Responses
The original list is:
The Responses
1. Camps Not Repelling Aggressive Creatures
2. Areatrack bugs
4. Traps bugs
- These problems will be looked into and fixed up as soon as possible.

3. Conceal and Humanoid NPCs
The developers have deemed our profession to be the Ultimate Creature Hunters.
But with that, hard choices must be made to follow the path of that vision...
- One of those choices was that /conceal command was never intended to work against humanoid NPCs, and when it did work was the true error.
But do not take this as a loss, but rather a gain...
- With this vision to follow we can finally focus our efforts and push for greater Creature Combat potential for our profession!
We have been shown the path Rangers, do we have the courage to follow?
- I hope we do... No, wait... IKNOW we do.

5./forage bug
- The developers are aware that this command needs some major work, and will look into fixing it up.

cant even use camo against NPCs?
honestly! other than making realy big camps, this is the only realy distinguishes us from scouts. track is only a nice trick.
if we realy permanently loose camo vs npcs i will feel alot better about dropping ranger, as it will then deffinitly NOT be worth the skill points!

*Will* be looked into. That's not promising. Sounds like Ranger is indeed on the bottom of the barrel with Pikeman.
As for camo, what good is it without humanoid repellant power? Any intermediate scout can scent mask. In theory, camo is supposed to be better and not break as often-- but in game, I don't see a huge difference between the two methods. Concealing from humanoids would give it an edge, and give groups another reason to travel with a Ranger.
A whole lot of skill points to invest in something so limited. Big shiny camps (with problems), better traps (with problems), and areatrack (with problems)-- taking up all these skill points? I'm really not sure it's worth it.
"Sounds like Ranger is indeed on the bottom of the barrel with Pikeman."
The problem is we were first inthe cyclefor enhancements back in August...
- And they have yet to cycle back around to us.

ActuallyPikeman will probably be looked into before us. ![]()
"if we realy permanently loose camo vs npcs"
That is where the confusion arises...
- They actually never implemented /conceal to work on humanoids in the first place.

What we were probably seeing were simply artifacts seeping in from the implementation for Creatures.
Wow. This is some sort of bull. Common sense dictates that someone skilled at hunting animals, would be almost as skilled at hunting humans. In many ways, humans are much easier to hunt. I think it is excellent that the devs think we should be the ultimate creature hunting class. Duh. But that by no means says that our bonuses should not at least partially apply to sentient beings. Traps: hmmm... If i through an adhesive net at you that can stop a CHARGING RAZORBACK then i think it would stop you as well... Look at examples in reeal life and in fiction... Aragorn from Lord of the Rings, spent his whole life living off the land, and as a result, is a badass in human combat. Someone who hunts there whole life could easily kill of any average human. Heres an Idea.... how about give us some of our bonuses and traps vs pcs and npcs, but kill off some of the bonuses inside the limits of a city? Would make perfect sense. Feedback?
It is the developer's prerogative to change their minds, but they should at least own up to doing so.
The rest is basically a null response. Nothing to see here, move along.
"Common sense dictates that someone skilled at hunting animals, would be almost as skilled at hunting humans."
Well...
- There are abundant professions that better fit the role of sentient hunter, Bounty Hunter comes to mind, and possibly Squad Leader if they ever fix that one up.
----
I agree that the change will probably drive some people to move onto other professions better suited to their goals...
- But thoseplayers interested in Creature Combat will hopefully feel right at home in the profession.

"I'm sorry, but the original message ostensibly from GreenMarine introducing the /conceal command specifically said it would function against both creatures and NPCs."
Do you mean this part?
> 1. Will conceal work vs. NPCs?
I'm not sure yet, it depends on how it plays. I want to have it work against NPCs and I may code it that way. We'll have to see how it plays out on test server. I may make it so that NPCs have a slightly higher than normal chance of breaking conceal.
GreenMarine seems to be rather "iffy" with regards to Humanoids in that quote...
- My guess is that during testing he decided not to implement it, and failed to inform any of us.

What about the commands for /AreaTrack...did anything get mentioned for that yet?
We have the area scan..but getting a waypoint to a specific creature is about overdue..is it not?
"I became a ranger to RP the Antarian Ranger idea"
From what I know of theAntarian Ranger background, it also included Merchants and anyone who simply wanted to lend a hand to the Jedi cause...
- The Ranger profession alone would probably never adequately fulfill that need.
When Zkull initially set up the AR collective I believe he simply zeroed in on the similiarity in the name Ranger...
- The Antarian Ranger concept is a cool roleplay item that can be used by anyone, not simply by players whohave skills from a profession that just happens to be called Ranger.
