Thread: Can a combat stacked Novice Scout really outharvest us per hour?
Went from Master Rifles/Master Ranger to MBH/Master Rifles/ SL 0200/Scout 4044
Definitely harvesting more per hour with new template vs old. Couple hundred units difference between Master Ranger and just scout, but I was able to kill more creatures much faster than as a Master Ranger. Additionally, I didn't have to spend a lot of time setting up just right to hit a tight grouped lair on Dant that was bordered by other lairs of critters, all of whom wanted to take a bit of a bite of me.
Using this template also lets me play against NPCs and work on quests and whatnot solo when others aren't around, something that was unjustly hard as a Master Ranger vs other double elite templates.
I don't hunt jedi (no way am I getting into that immature war) and still consider myself as "acting like a ranger" vs having the specific profession. Oddly, master rifles and MBH lets me be a ranger better than Master Ranger lets me be a ranger (concealing and using states to slow/stop critters)
in about an hour and a half. I had about 8-10k more meat than everyone else. I don't
know about soloing, but in a group, I get more. I've actually had a couple group
hunts like that.
I can't imagine solo being faster either. With a good group, we smoke through the kills.
Sometimes I just run around and harvest and don't even have to fire my weapon because
they are dropping so fast.
I know there is a group harvest bonus, but is there a bonus to the group for having
a ranger present?
Oh--group bonus for harvesting is 20%. You get 30% for having a Ranger, and 40% if it's a Novice Ranger. If *you* are the only Ranger in the group, you only get 20%.
They need to just do away with all the bonuses. First the penalized us for grouping, now we're penalized for not grouping.
I respecced to a full combat template that still has 4011 Scout (The 11 is just spare points until I eventually unlock FS skills).
With that I can harvest approx. 300 units from a CL78-82 critter - no clothing bonuses, droid or Veghash. Solo, I can run 2 lair destruction missions in 15 min or so (from terminal to terminal), netting 16-20k cash just off the missions + between 4-6k of harvested resources.
Obviously thats pushing a little hard and I'm usually more casually hunting - but I have had no problem keeping the guild armorsmith and architect stocked in hides.
Sadly I am in the same boat as you. The ability to respec showed me just how much I was NOT getting keeping all those SP tied up in Master Ranger. Man o man does Ranger need to be

If im solo i do better using my BH/Carb per house with scouting hunting. BUT if im in group (which 99% of the time i am) my master ranger/master rifleman kicks ass royally in terms of resource gathering. If level 82 creatures drop every 5 seconds then my master ranger just harvests into oblivion but solo hands down my scout hunter gets more per hour.
I found with a scout+combat stack I was able to drop creatures far faster than as Master rifles + most of ranger (can't go full master as SP is tied up elsewhere for now). Basically debuff the target, drop it, target the next, rinse, wash repeat. Once a pile are on the floor click on their tails and harvest like heck. Now, PRE-CU I was definately able to haul more in over time with the scout/combat stack template, but post-CU not so much. Possibly the creatures are better balanced now or the harvests adjust differently, dunno.
The biggest difference I've found between ranger/master rifles and scout/random stuff is that I take significantly less damage and do significantly more damage, especially against NPC's, with the latter. then again, I've picked and chosen to get accuracy and off/def bonuses. The trade off is that, as I've not got a second mastered combat prof (its all bits) my CL sticks down between 65 and the low 70's.
Guess you pays ya money and takes ya choice.
