Thread: Can a combat stacked Novice Scout really outharvest us per hour?

I just posted in another thread about how I wanted this to change, but then I realized I haven't really seen the numbers on this.

I know solo, we get our butts kicked by pairs or groups of Novice Scouts, but can a combat-stacked solo Novice Scout really outharvest a solo Novice Ranger? Has anyone done the numbers on this?

I can give you some info, as I recently re'speced from Master Ranger into MBH/SL 0300/Scout 4/0/0/4

I can harvest 286 units of hide from a CL79 Mountain Dewbacks (harvest by hand) and 226 when I used a harvester droid. This was w/o Vegash

This is a significant drop from what I could solo harvest as a Master Ranger

A 0040 scout could give a Ranger a run for the money on harvesting, as combat stacked Scout may be able to harvest more in terms of being able to kill more creatures per hour than a Master Ranger can when solo. (like a MBH has special which a Ranger has throiugh the use of Traps but a MBH can use them faster than we can. Basically a MBH can snare, root, KD, blind, dizzy, and stun creatures far quicker than a Ranger can.

ANovice Scout can still do well for themselves, especially with Vegash, especially someone CL80 who has Novice Scout. You will get more than suffcient yeilds to keep your bank account at comfortable levels.

not sure if this will help you or not, just my experience last night. I am a master ranger and was with some 4040 scouts and other rangers for an hour or 2. In this time I harvested almost 60k of meat, the 4040 scout got about 22k of the same meat. As to if he was getting all the harvests or not, I can't say, but I'm 90% sure he was.

Went from Master Rifles/Master Ranger to MBH/Master Rifles/ SL 0200/Scout 4044

Definitely harvesting more per hour with new template vs old. Couple hundred units difference between Master Ranger and just scout, but I was able to kill more creatures much faster than as a Master Ranger. Additionally, I didn't have to spend a lot of time setting up just right to hit a tight grouped lair on Dant that was bordered by other lairs of critters, all of whom wanted to take a bit of a bite of me.

Using this template also lets me play against NPCs and work on quests and whatnot solo when others aren't around, something that was unjustly hard as a Master Ranger vs other double elite templates.

I don't hunt jedi (no way am I getting into that immature war) and still consider myself as "acting like a ranger" vs having the specific profession. Oddly, master rifles and MBH lets me be a ranger better than Master Ranger lets me be a ranger (concealing and using states to slow/stop critters)

Yeah, I went out on a hunt yesterday and made about 40k of meat with a hunting group
in about an hour and a half. I had about 8-10k more meat than everyone else. I don't
know about soloing, but in a group, I get more. I've actually had a couple group
hunts like that.

I can't imagine solo being faster either. With a good group, we smoke through the kills.
Sometimes I just run around and harvest and don't even have to fire my weapon because
they are dropping so fast.

I know there is a group harvest bonus, but is there a bonus to the group for having
a ranger present?

In a group, we'll always outharvest our mates, of course. What Hodn-Jakteri describes is what I'm wondering about--and his new template is what I'm thinking of doing, only with Carbines in place of Rifleman. Going mostly-combat, but still roleplaying the Ranger. Doing that would actually suit my character, sort of a "fallen Ranger"t hing.

Oh--group bonus for harvesting is 20%. You get 30% for having a Ranger, and 40% if it's a Novice Ranger. If *you* are the only Ranger in the group, you only get 20%.

They need to just do away with all the bonuses. First the penalized us for grouping, now we're penalized for not grouping.

I am trying scout with hunting IV together with various stacked combat professions now too. So far it sadly looks like I collect resources faster now simply because I kill things faster...and I don't risk dying when I end up in melee by mistake, Itake so little damage compared to before.

Ranger at heart but the profession is just so broken and useless now

I respecced to a full combat template that still has 4011 Scout (The 11 is just spare points until I eventually unlock FS skills).

With that I can harvest approx. 300 units from a CL78-82 critter - no clothing bonuses, droid or Veghash. Solo, I can run 2 lair destruction missions in 15 min or so (from terminal to terminal), netting 16-20k cash just off the missions + between 4-6k of harvested resources.

Obviously thats pushing a little hard and I'm usually more casually hunting - but I have had no problem keeping the guild armorsmith and architect stocked in hides.

Sadly I am in the same boat as you. The ability to respec showed me just how much I was NOT getting keeping all those SP tied up in Master Ranger. Man o man does Ranger need to be re-invented.

There is so little we can do that cannot be done with a more diverse template. No , the only thing we do that is really unique is track creatures,(Boar-ing), and toss traps.

Still a Ranger at heart and I still spend all my time out in the boonies but by new template allows me to do everything I did as a Ranger plus I can now hunt Jedi, plus I can now assist in base take down, plus I cna take higher paying NPC missions, plus I get more combat specials and abilities, plus I ger a larger health pool..and it keeps going.

I will miss the HTFB but really thats all I am losing in a respec from Master Ranger/Master Rifleman to MBH/Master Rifleman/SL0300/Novice Artisan (Plus I can /survey again post-CU like I did pre-CU, or pickup some healing abilities)

If im solo i do better using my BH/Carb per house with scouting hunting. BUT if im in group (which 99% of the time i am) my master ranger/master rifleman kicks ass royally in terms of resource gathering. If level 82 creatures drop every 5 seconds then my master ranger just harvests into oblivion but solo hands down my scout hunter gets more per hour.

I found with a scout+combat stack I was able to drop creatures far faster than as Master rifles + most of ranger (can't go full master as SP is tied up elsewhere for now). Basically debuff the target, drop it, target the next, rinse, wash repeat. Once a pile are on the floor click on their tails and harvest like heck. Now, PRE-CU I was definately able to haul more in over time with the scout/combat stack template, but post-CU not so much. Possibly the creatures are better balanced now or the harvests adjust differently, dunno.

The biggest difference I've found between ranger/master rifles and scout/random stuff is that I take significantly less damage and do significantly more damage, especially against NPC's, with the latter. then again, I've picked and chosen to get accuracy and off/def bonuses. The trade off is that, as I've not got a second mastered combat prof (its all bits) my CL sticks down between 65 and the low 70's.

Guess you pays ya money and takes ya choice.
