Hello Rangers!
I'm sure there are people out there who remember me, and while my post count may not reflect it, I'm an old ranger who was and will continue to be a dedicated part of the best community in all MMOs.
After a dreadfully long 6-month absence, I am back for a what will hopefully be another rewarding stretch of gaming. I love this game and I'm happy to be back, even though I feel quite lost. It appears the Combat Upgrade went well, and even we got treated quite nicely. I haven't read the docs, so if someone could briefly enlighten me or point me to a link (because I couldn't find any) I would be very appreciative. Multi-person vehicles, new mounts, expansions, all kinds of stuff is going on. It sounds great
One last thing, if you guys would help me with it: what is this talk of a total respec? I just patched everything, but I haven't logged in yet and I remember seeing somethign about "you can only respecduring your first log-in". What kind of professions areyou all up to still? have things changed so much that different professions now complement Ranger? I've even seen so far on the forums of some people mentioning master Ranger/MBH.
ahhhhh sorry for all the questions! Thanks, and I'm glad to be back among the ranks.

Oh my goodness, they called me a petty officer!

And one other thing, congratulations Vorpaks on receiving your Scout correspondence.

Well, I can't claim to know you, but I'll try to answer your questions.
Um, we were "outside of the scope of the CU," our traps were broken across the board (broken as in not functioning and / or not functioning correctly,) Camoflauge is broken with the AI change as expected, Creature Knowledge no longer shows the resists or deathblow tendencies, foraged items now only have a filling of 5 and last for 15 minutes, creature harvesting is determined by CL / harvesting modifier / size, Ranger gives CL as does Scout, and Respec is a move of skill boxes from one profession to another for a box to box ratio.
For example, the respec point value of a novice profession box is equal to 1 novice point, the boxes in it's trees are worth regular respec points, and elite boxes including the elite novice box are worth elite respec points.

The statements I made were not all-encompassing. However, they were all factual in nature.

As usual, it's not as bad as the poster has made it out to be.

ok - qualify, then, the following statements:
1) our traps were broken across the board (broken as in not functioning and / or not functioning correctly,)
2) Camoflauge is broken with the AI change as expected
Yes - some traps are broken, including the one that seems to work too well, but others work as described. Some, like sonic pulse, even work better now. Also, the CU has implemented a change that makes us much more effective trappers, meaning that we now have a much, much better chance at trapping high-level critters at master. Before the CU, we could never land a trap on a krayt - now we can. This is a definite improvement, as it has made our trapping skills worthwhile again (even if some of our traps are broken).
As for camo - it seems to be working as reliably as ever on all planets except kashyyyk (and here the conditions are such that we can't really test it). For example, I was in the Dath spider cave last night and camo kept me hidden from both the spiders in the cave and the spider protector npcs. Now, maybe camo is not working as well as you think it should be, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's "broken." There is the issue with the "agro on camo break" bug, but again, this doesn't = camo "broken."
The rest is essentially correct, Ranger outside CU is a negative, but not as debilitating as many of us thought it would be. I really only feel underpowered against groups of multiple high-level npcs. Other than that, I seem to do quite well.
Foraged foods did get changes, but this is not a negative, as they are much better than their pre-cu equivalents. No, they don't equal chef food, but is it really reasonable to ask that we can forage stuff that will essentially devalue an entire profession?

Iseult, I wasn't stating the negatives, just the changes that impacted us the most.
I am sorry that I used the word "broken." To me, if something is not functioning, I call it "broken." However, I can see now how someone would be able to misinterpret that. So, how about "borked?"

Welcome back. Nice to see you again.
As for the respec, you should be able to respec once every 12 hours for something like 3 weeks. This means you can change your template (with a few restrictions) to anything you feel like trying for the next 3 weeks. So go and try out the various templates you are interested in before making a final decision.
And, while [the sky is falling/everything is great/we still have some problems but we are better off than before/we have more problems now but some stuff is working/etc], the game is still fun. Enjoy.
