Thread: Curious: What do you think makes the ranger forum so much more of a community than the other forums?

Just wondering. I love the sense of community this board has and I'm proud to be able to experience it but why do you think it exists only here?

Ranger - It's not a profession, It's a way of life. A way of life that only lives on in the hearts of rangers

There's a subtle roleplaying element that exists in all Rangers for some reason or another that seems to permeate into the boards and make everyone a little nicer than they would normally be in an anonymous-forumed situation.

That's my belief at least. Maybe Rangers just rock hardcore and their patience from prior periods of camping allows for more friendliness. heh

since rangers tend to be solo artists more, i thin the ranger needs 2 things.

1) to be comfertable with theirselves and

2) to be able to deal with change.

Think about it wandering, walking around is more of a "dealing with change and adapting" than other profs. People who can think on their feet and adapt quickly will have the most fun with ranger...

... or i'm full of crap

I think the Ranger community is the best in the game. Everybody seems to be enjoying the game, even though its bugged. And the people that is here are polite and helpful. When I see this board, I am proud to be a Ranger.

Its part commiseration as well.

There were times during my time in the service, i would be out in the field, cold.. wet... covered in mud, eaten by insects, pulling guard in a ditch... and the only thing that made me happy was my buddy right next to me.

a shared suffering is a tolerable suffering, and sometimes, we can see the fun in it.

Rangers have never been unique in our skillset, yet we are unique in our attitudes. we "get it" when we talk.

and while we often disagree, its an internal disagreement on specifics and not each other.

I think a part of it is that rangers-as a general rule-don't tend to be power-gamers. You don't find the 'leet-speaking folks here so often because the ranger profession doesn't offer them the ability to mow down everything they see. Most of those people have migrated to BH and Jedi-and we're probably the better for it. (Not saying that all BH's and Jedi are that type, but that type is certainly very well represented there)

Additionally, we seem to be an example of the concept of "pain shared is pain lessened". It may be from a bit of the bunker mentality as we're all feeling a bit put-upon with the issues in the profession.

But most of all, in spite of all evidence, we continue to have a hopeful attitude that light may appear at the end of the tunnel-and if we're just patient enough, we'll reach that end. We've had our moments; we're hardly a community 100% free of disagreements. But (I think) we see each other as being in the same boat.

Those are my thoughts; and you can add to them everything listed above (well, maybe except the part about the Bothans-Just kidding, Phenix!!!!)

I'm thinking that, while Phen may be right (hey, having a bunch of puppies around always makes me happy), AgonThalia hit the nail on the head. I always know that I can come to this forum, and feel like I'm around friends. Whether Iseult is trying to make another joke about how her fishing skills make her a Master Baiter, or JB is laying the smack down on some "leet speak" type asking how to macro something, or Phen and Oreet are bickering about whether bugs or puppies are better (all while Calc sits off to the side stroking his Wookie-head-on-a-stick crooning "My Preciousssssssss" and the rest of us dip into Hakai's rice balls and all the Guiness that Owen brought), it's just a fun place to go.

Plus, come on... the amazing sense of style and fashion is INSANE here. Nothing says "I'm hot and I know it" in the wilderness like CAMOPANTS!!! (That's for all those wanna-be-Ranger tailors like Pappi and co. that we all KNOW read our forum in envy all the time! ) And yes, that's a purple O... I DO go to Dantooine, ya know!

No such thing as high quality bothans.

another reason the ranger boards rock is because the galaxy's best Rodian hangs here.
