Thread: Ranger / Creature Handler Combinations

Are there any sucessfulRanger / Creature Handlerfolks lurking about? With Master Scout / Master Ranger / Master Creature Handler there isn't much left for ranged weapon. Would Pets (big ones)+ Trap be enough to solo big critters? Then instead of marksman level ranged weapon add in some medic. I'm working with a wookie.

I'm a mid level CH trying to figure out how to get Ranger skills worked in. I would like to have a better ability to sneak into a mob to train a baby plus would like to be able to kill most any critter to harvest or loot. This centers my character in the PvE realm rather than PvP.

I am in exactly in that position, and no, it's not a very viable solo combination.

Ranger is too expensive for what you get, honestly. CH is a perennial favorite, so it's a prime target for nerf every update. The two are only effective together for pet-hunting and grouping. Soloing WILL work, but you'd better be patient as all heck waiting for your pets to drop the mobs... it takes a *long* time. You can get up to Pistol IV to supplement this, but you'll still be very one-sided.

I think this combination's appeal is far outweighed by it's limitations.... and I'm still trying to figure out what to do instead ~J

I went for Ranger Tracking 3, because of the ability to show the distance along with the animal type.

Right now I am CH 2,2,2,2 and Ranger 0,2,3,0

May get rid of the wayfaring tho...since I only really use the camps to call pets...and I can do that cheaply with the basic first scout camp....But I do like the healing rate of the higher camps (.95 with the one I can make now)

Would go Master Ranger/CH....But I hate trapping. I can get the scouting and survival XP easilly...but trapping is annoying to me...because I am not into fighting. I am a ranger/ch because I like to explore. I only fight when I have no other choice...

I am a CH/Ranger/Rifleman. I almost Master Ranger, halfway to Master CH, and I had enough skill points to become a 3/0/0/0 Rifleman. I love the Ranger/CH combo, it allows me to be very independent, and I solo alot. However, I have been thinking of dropping Rifleman for Pistoleer, but I am goingt o stick with Ranger/CH.

I was on that same path...I got tired of getting incapped and killed by low level mobs...Stupid 2.5 damage multiplier....

I am also a maste Ranger, and CH. I just hit Master Ranger, and I'm ready to drop it. I could solo most things, just with my pets and my pistol (0/0/3/0) but it takes me a long time. I am thinking of pursuing a more combat related class, and dropping ranger. Let me tell you why:

Wayfaring is greatly reduced in need with the implication of creature mounts. Yes you are still the fastest in the pack, but as a CH, you dont really want to waste your creature on a mount, but rather on more creatures to tank for you.

Survival is cool. It's nice to have a big camp and all, with crafting stations, and a green laser around us to make us feel protected. But cmon, I dont stay in the camp for that long, especially after I hit master. I find no real use for it. I just make a camp to call my pets, and disband the camp.

Tracking, in my opinion is the best part of Ranger. With the exception to tracking 4. I have no complaints to tracking, for it has helped me in my days as a ranger.

Trapping is just as useless as anything else. It looks cool to throw traps at creatures. But almost all my time in combat is spent on trapping NPC's, where they are useless. And yes, I know they say that you will be able to trap NPC's, and player pets later, I cannot wait that long, as I need to find another way to make money. Also traps say that certain things happen to the creature, like weak to range attacks, or weak to melee attacks. But I really dont notice a difference when these statuses come up, I really think it just says those things, and nothing is happening. Also, there is no trap rate, I fail a lot, even on lower level creatures, and higher levels even more fails. I must admit though out of over 100 tries, I think I remember trapping a Krayt dragon. But it was a long time ago, maybe my eyes fooled me just to make me happy.

This combination was my plan since day 1. The two classes go hand in hand. Creature knowledge, camo from ranger. These things help you know about the creatures you want to tame, or fight. But with this combination, it make a very large strain on your personal combat. Yes, your pets do a lot of the damage, and you can solo many things, but I just dont feel as enthusiastic about this profession as I used to. It was fun while it lasted. That is just my summarizaion. Hope it helped.

I am a Master Ranger/Master Creature Handler/Medic 3/3/4/0 on the Kauri Server

My guild loves the comination, I am a heavy resource harvester and a Tank provider.

Though without my pets, I am completely defenseless... AH! sounds like a REAL mmorpg with a CH class.. STRONG PETS, weak owner....

I do miss being able to shoot stuff, I mean whats the point with a CDEF weapon, though with my higher medic skills our DR/CM's love me cause I can provide backup to them incase they take a dive, but after a while now.. 4 weeks, it has gotten to be a little boring.. ranger isn't that exciting to me, camo sux, areatrack sux cause servers can't keep up, camps are kewl, terrain nego is only kewl on planets like dath, lok or naboo, on dantooine its almost useless... and now with mounts... bah, now there is no point....traps.. BAH! stupid, since any alite profession has access to using a move to initiate a state effect that I would use as a trap... plus state effects are stupid..... no real effct on creatures....

blind should be %60 loss of accuracy

stun should be %50 loss of speed

intimidate should be %30 loss of damage

dizzy should be KD is allowed at all times or a shorter cool down time

all states should be this effective and acheived thru traps OR level 3/4 elite weapons skills, honestly its fine were it is... State effects do nothing and anybody can do them, at this point they could take them completely out of the game and nothing would change!!!!

Honestly, if sony listened to us on this msg board and implamented some of the awesome ideas our fellow rangers have come up with, I would back Ranger 110%, but as the days go by my trust in sony and my interest in ranger slip away....

I don't know about anyone else, but intimidate seems to reduce damage output by 50% as it currently is.

"but intimidate seems to reduce damage output by 50% as it currently is."

That is Intimidate's effect.

It is actually the most obvious of the state effects. Stun and Blind tend to be less noticable.

From my observations:

  • Blind reduces the chance to hit of the creature, you will receive more "creatures misses" messages in the combat spam.

  • Stun slows the creature down, both in movement in the game space, and in the number of attacks it performs in a given time.

I am working my way up to master ranger, I am currently at 0/1/2/0 but after tonight I will be 0/2/3/0. But I am going for Master Creature Handler as well and I am also almost at expert sniping which is as high as I will be able to go. But even where I am at right now I have been able to go to Lok and solo a lot of stuff using my Greater Sludge Panther as a tank. I can't even imagine what I will be able to solo once I can actually use something likea Gurreck or a Grual Mauler. I think that the Sniping tree in Rifleman does just fine with using a macro set-up to do mind shot 2 -1 and another macro set up to do head shot 3-2-1 in a row. Plus if you use your pet correctly you will never get incapped. I am looking forward to being Master if Ranger and CH. It should be a powerful combination plus I think they just go hand in hand togethor.

I use these "state attacks" all the time and it always boggles me that more rangers don't but instead choose the "traps suck" line. Traps are great if you have a brain to use them with. I'm a tank ranger so I don't use pets but even pet using Ranger / CH's ought to use these traps more to make the fights easier, and quicker, on their pets. The only type of ranger I could see not using these is a rifle/ranger because of their desire not to encounter the enemy face to face.

I will give you blind, but I can dizzy and stun far more effectively and dammage with Rifleman AoE's. For me the time is waisted otherwise.

I'm a Master Ranger going for (2/2/4/2) in CH and (2/1/0/4) in Rifleman. I'm at Master Ranger, (2/2/2/3) CH, (0/0/0/1) in Rifleman right now and it seems to be working ok.
