Thread: Mask Scent vs. Conceal

What is the difference between Mask Scent vs. Conceal other than that Conceal requires Camo Kits and works against NPCs. The reason I'm asking is that I'm trying to decided whether to spend my limited pool points on the Wayfaring tree or not.

Thanks

"What is the difference between Mask Scent vs. Conceal"

Well you notedtwo chief aspects:

  • /concealworks against NPCs.

  • /conceal requires a crafted kit to use while /maskscent is free

The other items:

  • /conceal has a higher success rate than /maskscent

  • /conceal can be used to concealother players

From personal experience, I find /conceal very handy for concealing my Medic companion.

  • On myself, I use /maskscent exclusively because it is cheaper.

Does /conceal actually work against NPCs now? I just recently started using /conceal, but only on my non-scout companions, because I'd heard that it does not work against NPCs, and is no more effective than /maskscent. Now I'm all confused.

I've been wondering. Is this tru for the lowest level of Conceal vs. the highest level of Mask Scent? That is, is the Conceal skill you get with Wayfaring I better than the Mask Scent skill you get with Master Scout?

It has always worked marginally...

  • There are several glaring errors in the Humanoid A.I. that bypass the /conceal check, which I hope will be resolved eventually.

Good question... I believe the answer is No.

I believe the top level /maskscent is probably still better than the first level /conceal.

  • Actually, the second level /maskscent is probably better than the first level /conceal for that matter.

However, when comparing equal skill modifier values in both skills (say +100 in both), /conceal will have a higher success rate.

/conceal does:

-better success rate; works against NPC; and can be applied to others.

Now for anyone that has not used it since 2 big updates ago, it really does work very well now. I'm a 4.3.4.4 Ranger now. I use /conceal on myself for the advanced planets. It works way better. Even though with BE clothes I have a +123 mask scent it still breaks often. I have a +128 camo, and it almost never breaks. I could be running through Endor, Lok, or Dath with lots of red all around me, including some NPC, and it won't break. I really like camo now and it works very well.

I have also noticed that the creatures that break my camo or mask scent don't immediately jump me. In fact I think that has only happened once since the update before this last one. I think they have it now so that if you don't have mask scent or camo up, it is using your base skill modifier for it, to go against the creatures or NPC's.

It is pricey, and a pain in the tukus to get camo kits for adv planets. But for hunting parties, I like using it on me and anyone who doesn't have mask scent. It does seem to work better on me though. On all the other planets I stick with mask scent unless Im trying to get through/past agro NPC

Personally, whether I use conceal or maskscent is dependent entirely on the planet.

For starter planets where essentially nothing can touch me, there's no point in wasting the resources. Only a couple things could possibly kill me or break through my maskscent, and they're rare.

On planets suck as Dathomir, I rely on Camo. Not for the animals so much as the NPC's. The freedom gained by being able to walk up to Nightsister Rancor Tamers and patting them on the head is astounding, and it will sometimes last the entire time needed to complete 2 misison and run back to base.

Ensure that you are telling your group to walk, not run, by super aggro mobs. Conceal rarely breaks when you are walking. I've had a huge amount of success walking people across different planets with my camoflage on them. Great exp bonus as well.

Mask Scent is good for just you, but I use conceal when in groups. I'm glad it doesn't break in combat now.

We don't have time to discuss this in a committee.
