Thread: decisions decisions /cry lol ....
you could just make a different character on a different server. unless you have a respec (which i guess you do if you've been the same template since launch) it wouldn't take any longer, and its fun to start over with a new character, for me at least.
and im sure you wont be friendless on any server, if that's an issue

Supposedly he had soloed necrosis, but by his spelling and knowledge about the game mechanics he couldn't have been playing more than a month. Of course he was lvl 80 though, so he thought he was great.
Dyrwen I loved your post... I have been playing the game for 6 month now and I have seen many cases like the one you just mentioned,I just let them be and with the time they learn, believe me.
I have a Characterthat is a mayorTanker, MTKA - Master Pike and Doc, I can take tons of damage and not even feel it. But since I started playing I was always curious of the Ranger Profesion, the harvesting, the trapping, everything,so the other day I bought my Roomate old account and Grinded up to MBH - Master Ranger - 0030 Squad leader.
For some reason, could be the inexperience on the Ranged - Ranger scene, I'm really weak with this guy, I have a couple of nice guns, a really nice armor and all, but I cant kill anything that is higher than 82 without a group, so If it's no problem for you I whould love to know what kind of template do you have and if you could give me some tips that could help me with my strategy towards big criters. By reading on the forums, with all the wining that the ranger is not a combat profesion tipe, that they have no power and deffence, you have proven me wrong, the fack that you can solo and ancient, I'm amazed.
Please see if You or Anyone can give me a hand to improve my template so that way I can be a true ranger...
Tx a lot

I happen to have your exact template, SL, MBH, MRanger. As al-djinn'i said, traps are your friends. The person I was fighting with yesterday was a TKM/And something else melee, but I've taken down Krayts with a melee tank before so I tried it with him. Realistically though, the way you solo anything this big is ranged because you aren't meant to get hit.
For the most part I will follow this routine if the animal is near others: Throw a glow-wire trap, while you don't have any weapons equipped, and let it react as you run away at least 30 additional meters. This will make it possibly over 50m from its original spawn point, but so long as it's not 100m away it ought not retreat. Now that it's away from its friends I hit it with a phenc dart to snare it and run back the other direction to do a circle strafe of the area. Now that he's snared, I won't get hit if I stay more than 15m away (though I try to stay 30m away if it's a Krayt since they're so large). Once you do that, wait till the snare wears off and hit it with another. Continue to do this, alongside as many specials as you can manage without killing your action bar until it's dead.
To use your Sl abilities, I suggest any pet, droid or otherwise, just because that volley fire really helps out as you're dealing with 40k health. Follow al-djinn'i's advice and only use your underhand shot for when he's right on you or a trap fails and he'll soon be on you. Doing this technique, it will take you about 30 minutes total to kill an ancient krayt with 40k ham. You'll do a lot of running, and a lot of trapping. After about 15 traps they seem to be almost an auto-snare, so there's less need to trap them further as often.
In any case; the point remains: Your goal is not to be hit because you can't survive without defenses. Your traps are your defenses, use them as often as possible.
Until eventually I find something to snap me out of it. Like last night I soloed an Ancient Krayt, got a /tell from someone watching saying good job. Then hung out in a camp outside the graveyard till someone came by and asked why I was there. I told em, and he seemed intrigued. Supposedly he had soloed necrosis, but by his spelling and knowledge about the game mechanics he couldn't have been playing more than a month. Of course he was lvl 80 though, so he thought he was great.
So I tell him, sure, I'll help him get the Ancient badge. For the next 30 minutes I spend time telling him how the spawn system works and why the ancient is here yet. He lacks the patience of a ranger, and unfortunately, the intellect, seeing as he appears to get stalked by a juvey, and screams "Help! Runn run" and it isn't even attacking him yet. So I camoflague him and he is puzzled. I tell him they won't smell him anymore..but he still thinks they're after him anytime they casually move. Some people are paranoid, I swear.
We took on a juvey and he seemed to do okay, albeit he ended up getting two grands chasing me. While waiting I told him we could take the Canyon nearby, so we tried and he nearly died again. Had to just tell him "Stop attacking, it'll come for me." But before I said that he told me the "warcry" him. Now, I'm a MBH, I don't have jack for a warcry, heh. Anyways we eventually kill that one and move right along. No loot on either juvey or canyon yet.
Finally an ancient spawns, I tell him to stay here and I'll lure it out. Finally he listens to me and I send a glow-wire trap unarmed from 45m and lure out the Ancient from the pile of Grands with ease. He's puzzled as to how I managed that and I tell him to attack. So he's running all over the place wildly trying not to die, screaming he's dead he's dead. I just tell him to run to me, I can take em.. etc. Meanwhile a lvl 16 noob is watching nearby, so I /invite him to see if he wants the badge, not knowing he doesn't even know there is a badge. I only invited him because this lvl 80 douche was laughing at him in /group as he ran back and forth avoiding death. In any case, he finally dies and he gets the badge. Apparently he wanted a pearl, but he got an intraframe, but I told him how the loot system works and that I gotta get going. No way could I spend more time with that guy, with all that ego and none of the intelligence to keep it.
In any case the noob ended up dying and sent me a tell asking if I could rez when I was in town. Told him I couldn't and asked why he was there, which resulted in him mentioning that someone had told him that low level spawns could be found up there by the graveyard and that he had apparently been duped. So I told em where to find good spawns for his level and went on my way, reminding him to ask me if he has any more questions later..
Not sure why this is pertinent to the discussion, but it's what keeps me playing as a Ranger. Knowing that I am knowledgable about our abilities, how to kill large game such as this, but can also appreciate the lower levels moving up in the galaxy because we've no need for ego. Why should we? We've the perfect humble profession; we can kill any animal, but no man. It leaves one with a sense of coy confidence that I think is unique to a ranger, so that's what keeps me in it. Just find some idiots out there and you'll grow to love your profession even more, knowing not everyone has chosen such a life as yours, but because they haven't you reap the benefits.

Makes me mad to see newer players taken advantage of like that. Good job representing the Ranger community right.
So on another note MR/MBH can solo high end stuff eh.... hmmmmm. LOL.

Props to Dyrwen. It was that sort of attitude from a MRanger I met way, way back ingame when I wasn't even thinking of going Master Scout let alone Ranger. Guy was just cool, knowledgable, didn't laugh at my completely newbish questions, unlike teh uber combat folk I'd met, and he had this HUGE tent...
Keep it up. You're doing a grand job.

I run into this almost every timeI play. Thers always some kid with lots of ego and no brains to back it up. Jeeteye seem to be infected with this more than most. Its just sad when a group pf lvl 80's can't seem to pull a simple piket spawn with out agroing every one of them. The secondI see some one running away with ALL of them notfar behind I leave the group. I have more fun soloing anyway.
