Thread: Conceal & Conceal Shot for PvP

Here's what I'd like to have for sniper types

/conceal removes us from all players (except possibly gorup mates) radar. Not DAoC invisibility, just don't show up on radars. If not on radar, auto target doesn't work, but clicking on you would target you.

Show up on radars when in combat (an attack is made) until next /conceal.

Exception is Rifleman /concealShot: if successful, remain off radar. If Unsuccessful, show up on radar.

Now, you'd still be able to be found visually (though at night that would be tough, but that's life in war, no? )

Probably a bugfest waiting to happen if it is coded, but it would be a nice wrinkle that wouldn't be too unbablancing, would it?

Arrlo,

I don't know about the unbalancing. I recall playing DAoC and getting my butt handed to me by a lot of Archers that way.

I know there have been requests for something like this, but the main problem is that there are many Rangers who won't be able to benefit from this - those who use pistol, carbine or melee skills. I don't know how much attention the Devs are willing to place on such a small segment of the community when other segments are still hurting.

the idea is promosing but as stated their are othe rrangers that cant benifit and since marksmen is not required for ranger it wouldnt make much sense to bias a certain weapon

Maybe add a Ranger specific Conceal Shot for multiple weapons?

I'm going to put forward that in fact pistoleers, carbineers and melee rangers could take advantage of /conceal working as Arrlo described. With the fact that we wouldn't appear on radar, all rangers would have the abilty to sneak up on the targets and perhaps gain an element of surprise. From a melee ranger point of view I can say it would be nice to be able to creep around buildings and harvesters without showing up on radar in preparation for a sneak attack. I could even find a use for my turbo crawl in this sort of scenario. Yes, it wouldn't help me out in an open field (I'd be spotted as soon as the target turned my way) like a rifleman who can hide in the brush but that's part of being a melee ranger, you don't bring a knife to a gunfight.

Perhaps this idea deserves more consideration than we are initially giving it.

Related question: Does conceal-shot from the rifleman concealment line do anything to help when fighting creatures to keep them from noticing where the shot came from? If not, I'll use my skillpoints elsewhere such as aiming or more support specialist or do more with CH.

Well, as I said, this isn't invisibility. You'll always be visible to the naked eye, just not to the radar. Even if your /conceal'd, if you are 1m from me, I can see you and manually target you.

As to the Rifle / Ranger conceal combo, that is just an idea. Every one that is /conceal'ed can benefit from getting the first shot off if the opponent is relying too much on the radar, and not enough on doing visual sweeps of the battlefield.

The idea that a sniper, who gets a good shot off retains /conceal is just an idea. Perhaps it could be a greatly reduced chance that they won't unconceal. Besides, Pistoleers and BH are evil and since Riflemen don't have an equivalent knockdown, they need something to slow the evil ones from just running up and doing 2.5x damage

Or another option would be to allow for 2-3 shots before you show up on radar. Maybe 2 shots.. if you miss.. oh well. I hate that I show up on radar every time... Ranger's have a great Camoflage ability, but can't do it against PCs?!?! Why not?

Another wrinkle should be.. if the player is not facing the person who fired upon them, the attacker gets another shot until they do face them.... :-)

Well, in theory, it prevents the target from auto targeting you. So you can enter combat w/o immediately drawing aggro. I am not sure if it works in PvP, but I don't see why it wouldn't.

i personally think that the /conceal command should make us disappear from radar since it can be applied to others, i would rather see us have our own command that only works on us, IE we cant apply it to anyone, this command would remove us from the radar, making for excellent scouting capabilities.

This is what I've seen Tuskens do. Can't see them on radar have to run up and click them.

Would be cool if it works against everything, players included.

Not true. EVERY Ranger would benefit from this, although maybe not directly. Even if you didn't use it on yourself to sneak up on enemies, PVP groups would now have a reason to hire a Ranger's services to conceal THEM. Think about that. I think that would be the ultimate reason people would say "hey, we need a Ranger" I have been wanting to hear that since this game came out.

Aramus,

Not if the conceal applied strictly to riflemen, which was the original idea.
