Thread: Explorer Mission Idea....

While most of us have to agree that it doesnt seem very worthwhile
to take explorer missions. How do you guys think the new /track
and /scanara will effect their worth?

How about having explorer missions be missions that task us to find
a strange or rare(r) creature. If they lowered the amount needed
to say, 5 or even 1 depending on the creature I think that would be
a lot more fun. So, instead of having a modified 'destroy' mission,
explorer missions would be more unique. I thought of this while looking
around Naboo for an Peko Peko Albatross.... am still looking...
This would really allow the Ranger to use his abilities and not just
his weapon. I think it would be a blast to go on a tracking mission
in search of the great Gorax, or a 'mutated Gnort' that was last seen
running south of Theed. Something along that line that would make us
'explore' the countryside looking for it.

Example:

Explorer mission is to find 2 Peko Peko Albatrosses... for say, 25k.
I think this would be more of an explorer mission than the current
'go get me 45 durnis' method.

What do you guys think?

Very interesting idea. I agree that something needs to change with them, that's for sure.

Great idea, though I think 25K is a bit steep. We don't want to kill the regular mission terminals. This sounds like a Ranger version of a BH terminal. Not to exclude people, but would it make sense torequire Novice Ranger to use it?

I would love to see this added to the list. NRaas?

"I would love to see this added to the list."

I adore the idea...

I was just waiting for the proper critical mass of responses.

Alrighty then... A couple questions...

These "rare" missions for the extremely tough critters...

  • If players have trouble locating the more common creatures to complete the current hunting missions, how many of them do you think will take missions for such rare critters?

We really don't knowwhat /track will also us to track...

  • But I have a suspicionthat the Peko Peko Albatross will not be in that list.

The onlyway a player would take such a mission is if it drowned you in cash once you completed it...

  • Far higher than any mission currently available.

If the developers do that, they would have to be extremely careful that the creature is:

  • Rare enough to not flood the market with easy credits

  • But common enough to not make the mission near impossible to complete

That is a tight balancing act...

I guess I should have been more generic with the description.
The rare or unique creatures could be of any level and the
reward could be of any amount.
I liked the idea because it allowed opportunity for exploration
instead of the tedium of enlongating a destroy mission.

I think the idea of a 'mutant' critter or something along that line
would even be great. The Albatross was just an abstraction and not
very realistic.. sorry about that, but you guys get the point.

Imagine a mission where you were told a crazed tusk cat had been terrorizing
Moenia citizens and was chased off to the south. Track it down and take it
out
Or even a collector looking for a rare type of Flewt and is willing to pay
handsomely for someone to locate it.

These missions wouldnt even have to require you kill anything. Although thats
my preferred method

Fact is, there are a lot of possiblilities with this idea that would distinguish
it from the destroy missions...

What do you guys think?

(excerpted from an AP news story)

(no, really)

A giant rabid gubber has been rumored to be eating citizens in the vicinity of Belle Vistal, Corellia. No confirmation on these reports, because the only thing left of said citizens is their Nike sneakers. Belching has been heard echoing through the canyons around the beleagured town. The mayor of Belle Vistal is issuing an emergency call to an experienced hunter to subdue this vile beast, and force it to regurgitate our citizens!

I love it!

Sildas Replies:
When the mission is granted, perhaps have the creature(s) spawn at random somewhere.

They wouldnt have to pay out as much as the explorer missions currently do. They
could pay out the same as destroy missions. This mission terminal would just offer
a different way of playing the game instead of only taking the destroy missions.

There is alot that would need hased out, but from the responces Ive read so far it
sounds like this is something that would be wanted.
Keep it coming guys!

How about having it scaled so that the terminal offers a wide range of payments. This wouldn't be tied to any sort of weapon skill but would just be completely random. Then generate the creature you need to hunt accordingly:

1 - 5k : Spawns 25 "rare" creature types (read: Durni's, Gnort's, etc with modified names such as "Rabied Durni", etc) spread across a specfic are on the planet (near Theed, for example). Explorers job is to kill one of these creatures to complete the mission.

5- 10k : Spawns 15 "rare" creature types across the planet (random locations), slightly tougher than the durni's, etc. Killing one of them completes the mission.

10 - 20k : Spawns 5 "rare" creature types somewhere in the galaxy. Knowledge of what creatures are native to what planet would help the explorer here, but as some creatures are found on more than one planet this wouldn't be a sure thing. Critters are again tougher than before.

20k - 40k : Spawns 1 "rare" creature somewhere in the galaxy. This is gonna be one tough kill and VERY hard to find, but the reward reflects that.

By not linking the difficulty of the missions to any weapon skill, the explorer himself has the choice of how much of a challengehe/she wants to face.

What do you think?

Regardless of the outcome - I love the idea!

I like it! Even if this particular scheme doesn't make it, I still love the original idea.

These are really great ideas! Hope the devs give them a listen and then they write the code to make it happen.

Outstanding All!
This is what I was hoping for with this idea.

Nraas, what needs to be done as far as having the devs take a serious look at this idea.
All these ideas are really good and I think they would greatly improve the explorer missions.
I like the trap idea particularly.

Basically I think that there are lots and lots of possibilities with this idea.
It could even get away from the get-mission, kill-thing, get-reward system
used for destroy missions.

Rock on Rangers!
Keep the ideas coming... the more solid the foundation the better the chance for
the carpenters to build a house upon it.
