Thread: The Next State of the Profession

As most of you know by now, the State of the Profession has become something that all the Profession Correspondents are now required to do...

However, Thunderheart was supposed to give the go ahead on each of the reports before they were posted...

  • Some things did not go according to plan however, and several reports were released early.

As I await approval to release my next edition, those of you interested can read the final draft via the link in my signature.

Comments and Criticism are welcome...

----

I just wanted to reassure youthat I am not slacking off... Just trying to work with the system.

I very much doubt anyone would ever accuse you of slacking off. You are doing a great job. Thanks. Out of curiousity, any ETA on when you'll be given the go ahead? And are they making you change much? Don't answer if this will cause any problems.

"any ETA on when you'll be given the go ahead? And are they making you change much?"

Very good question.

I doubt Thunderheart will give it much more than a cursory look over, to ensure it is not too negative, or too brash, etc. etc.

  • He will be leaving the big comments to the forum members, once the next edition is released.

Sadly,I don't know what his schedule is over the weekend, so I might be out of luck until next week.

/cheers for the great job NRass is doing.

I disagree with the +CH levels for Master Ranger. Earlier today,Isaw a thread in the CH forum where they thought Master CH should be able to /examine for the creature level. Granted, this isn't that huge of a deal...it's not like they're asking for /areatrack. But, I think that it just steals away some of the usefulness of having a Master Scout or Ranger around. Heck, it'd be useful for them to be able to see the creature's special attacks, too (they weren't asking for this.) They should need to burn the skill points on Master Scout and Ranger to get the benefits from Creature Knowledge.

That said, I wouldn't mind trading them that skill abilityfor+10 CH ability at master scout Think they'd go for that?!? (hears the screams of all novice CHs). Actually, I suspect Master CHs would actually consider getting Master Scout then.

Anyway, i'm sure this has been discussed trillions of times.

/agree with basically everything else in the list.

Heaping nothing but laurels on your head NRass, you're doing a great job. A fantastic effort.

Just wondering, when do you sleep? Or eat? Cold pizza and warm Pepsi only keep programmers alive yanno.

So far, I have posted this to all state of profession threads in professions one of my chars holds, so here goes the next copy

One point that goes for any class and any topic in this game: communication. It would be nice if you could bring this point to the DEVs attention. Most if not all of us are computer game players. All games have bugs. All games have design problems. However, it is much (!) easier to live with them, if they are acknowledged by the DEVs. Why do we have to list bugs ? It's the DEVs responsibility to present a list of known issues.

Example: tipping. Tipping was broken lately. They fixed it two days later. Instead of warning us that tipping is broken, they kept silent. I think most players could have lived with 3 days time or even four, if they had the chance to avoid that bug. They had not. Losing money that will not be refunded to a bug that was known to the DEVs and hit me due to their failure to communicate their knowledge is... I don't know... so much of an offense that I don't even know how to descibe it.

I'm not threatening to quit. I think that's not working, and I'm hooked anyway. I won't quit, whatever happens. I still have my UO acount though I haven't UO installed for at least a year. So much for quitting anything. BUT: Friends ask me daily about this new game, about the cool things they've heard about it, about the cool graphics they see. And they ask me if I can recommend it. If they should buy it.

And I have to say: No, don't buy this, you will not like it. I wish I could say otherwise. I wish they could play and group with me and have fun. But I will not lie to them about the state of the game. And the state of the game lives and dies with communication. Not Bugs, not features. Communication. And as it is there is no communication. There is a huge amount of rumours and information too little too late.

I think good communication will outweight any profession list by far.

Thunderheart is a good step in the right direction. But it's only one step. More of a symbol than a real help. Please include this point in your report.

From my personal point of view, communication is what lost them ~20 potential customers. And it's only my own idiocity that is keepingthe one that's left.

I think that CHs should have to get master scout like we did before they can have any of our skills.

Gloria, Lowca: Wanderhome & Test Center
9 accounts, 18 characters, ok this is a tad nutso
Lowca, LIBERTYLAND PARK on Rori: PIRATES COVE on Test, Dantooine: SMUGGLER'S COVE on Wanderhome, Rori, our fun city geared to role playing fun

Come visit, bring friends and roleplay. Pull up your overhead map, each vendor marks a site for adventure and fun.

Well, I have a thought about how they should have done it, although it would probably be too big a step backwards to remove the CH profession entirely. First of all, there should not have been a CH profession, there should have been limited creature handling abilities in the ranger tree, note I said limited, perhaps at Master, a Ranger could command something on par with a cowardly gurrek (sp?), the star wars universe was not full of creature pets. Although, like I said, probably too late, would have been nice tho.

Oh and btw, NRaas, you are the reason being a ranger will continue to get better and better

"I disagree with the +CH levels for Master Ranger."

I understand that there are some controversial requests on the list.

  • It is doubtful we could a unanimous agreement on anything on the list.

Hopefully the more controversial items will filter to the bottom, while the more accepted items to the top...

  • This will give some meaning to the order of the list in general, and aid the developers in determining what items should be implemented next.

This approach has taken place already, as I adjusted the order after each Top 5 Debate to push the Top Issues to the... well.. top.

If anyone has issue with the order, please say so... I am amiable to moving elements around, as long as there is a good reason.

I like the list NRaas, but would like to point out just two little grammar issues (yes, I am too **edit** sometimes):

In general, there does not seem to be not much complaint regarding monetary issues.

This should be changed to: "In general, there does not seem to be not much complaint regarding monetary issues."

Also:

Several of the resources required by camoflauge kits are so rare, that no Ranger has yet to find them (Lok domesticated meat for instance).

This should read: "Several of the resources required by camoflauge kits are so rare, that no Ranger has ever foundyet to find them (Lok domesticated meat for instance)."

Otherwise the list looks good.

Me write good, eh?

Nice to see someone is inspecting it that closely...

  • I will fix those up once I get off work.
