Thread: Harvesting Droid (omg info!)

I dunno, aside from a rant about how horrible the droid is for rangers, a rant about people making assumptionsaboue how horrible the droid is for rangers, and a thread about testing that also didn't have any usefulinfo, I haven't really been able to gleen anything about this droid from this forum. I was perusing the tailor forum however and saw this:

http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=tailor&message.id=32872&page=3

Towards the end of this page the Tailor correspondent has a post that actually contains some useful info about the droid. Hehe, maybe from now on we should check the tailor forum for the best info on harvesting

So how do we feel about getting our incresed harvesting from a droid? I don't like the idea (as trapping and harvesting droids seem to be mutually exclusive) but I am sure I will use it.

Unless I get an information about the maximum moduleratings (the DE correspondent replied to my question that it is not known at all IF it can go above the +20/module floating around) I hardly can say if it is something I would want to use or not.

Guess I just order an adv. r3 packed with 6 harvestmodules when that publish goes live from my PA's droid engineer to see where this thing might get if I can't find a clarification on this before.

I'm not sure. I have a full complement of droids right now that I use a lot for item storage, medical healing, equipment crafting, power charging, and combat (which is a pretty much a waste of space, that would be the first one I'd get rid of). Since it sounds like you'd need to dedicate all 6 modules to get the20% harvesting bonus that means that it can't do anything else useful for you which kind of hurts. And from NJessi said it sounds like it might be a royal pain in the rear to use. I'll probably buy one to quickly evaluate it, and discard it if it's not useful. I would probably get a trapping one IF that is just a module you can add on to another, more useful droid. Otherwise forget it. The surveying one is a no-brainer though. I've already pre-ordered one from a DE friend

It appears that the Harvesting Droid even fully loaded with 6 harvesting modules only gives 20% --- NOT 120%. There was an update on that thread in the Tailoring forum. When they used the harvesting droid it didn't seem to give all that great a boost for the time and effort of using it.

Honestly? It doesn't fit with my view of a ranger. I picture rangers as independant outdoorsmen- perhaps even luddites. They'd be the last to own a droid, or anything that might potentially break down. They'd have mounts instead of speeders, dogs instead of droids, and only the most reliable weaponry.

However, I understand that DE's need some reason for being. Droids need some reason for being. Making droids handle menial tasks orprovide boosts to your profession's effectiveness seems a good way to do that.

Ok, I worded it poorly. With out saying "to" and "of" 20% and 120% are meaningless terms. But what I was of course talking about was 1.2x harvesting (or 20% additional) harvesting.

I don't disagree with your vision of rangers as being independent, but you can also view droids as just a tool (albeit a highly evolved one). I might break the blade of my skinning knife on a rancor bone, but that doesn't necessarily mean that I would shun using one.

Plus, using the droid is certainly not required; think of it as a mechanical assistance to or automation of the process that allows for more precise cuts, and therefore less wasted meat/hide/bone.

A profession so designed would be completely irrelevant to the game.

If you go with the Army Rangers analogy, they get the best technlogy, surveilance and bomb/mine clearingdroids would be included in that. Infrared goggles, personalsatellite navigation and comunications, etc...

I do not mind using droids, but have ZERO desire to have any droid have Scout/Ranger ability. At all.
