Thread: Traps....and exp...
Seems to me it is still related to the trapping modifier and not to the CL of the target or of the person tossing the trap. I have enough scout to harvest hides but not really to trap. My bonus is the standard +5 which comes with the novice box. I didn't land a trap and stopped throwing after several tries. My level is 80 and the mobs were anywhere from 78 to 82.
The ranger I was with is still working up the tree and was there only for the trapping experience. He is 34 or 35, not sure as he gained a few levels last night. Anyway, with whatever food, Dwibble?, he was able to stick most of the mobs which I couldn't even touch and if what your saying is true, he should not have been able to trap them but I should have at least landed a few. Which is definately not the case.

We need an exact corrolation between trapping level and CL.

Right now people with full combat templates cannot use any traps they've picked up from scout if they haven't invested skill points in the ranger trapping line. However, doing this would also make our trapping line much more useless (if that's possible).

Uhm, previously the problem was that your chance to get a trap to stick was based on your TL, but your XP was calculated against your CL to the targets CL, resulting in 1XP all round for a hella lot of folk.
You have a TL of 5, and are trying to trap CL80 creatures. Think about it this way. If you were a CL5 character with TL5 and tried to stick one on a CL80 beasty, realistically, how successful would you expect to be? Well, that's exactly what you're trying to do now.
Stop thinking that your, or the groups CL has ANYTHING to do with your ability to trap. That skill is personal to you. If you've got the trapping skills of a novice scout, then you're going to have to trap at that level.
Grouping up: If you group with a bunch of 80's, youre just giving yourself more problems as so few of your traps are going to stick.
Missions: You are a CL80 so will get missions at that level, same problem.
Solution: HUNT.
You've got CL5, there are CL5's at teh back of Eisley, City Mites. Dink them a while and you'll get the first box.
That'll get you to TL10 (iirc) and there's 10's to 15's inthe next 'layer' out from the starter cities. (Remember, NPC cities mission terms are capped at CL15 missions)
After that you're going to have to head off Tat and start looking round for other planets with slightly higher creatures.
Happy hunting!

Ive tried outside of Mos espa and since im combat level 16 I only get 1 pt of trapping xp per kill. Makes me angry. So if anyone has any input let me know
Throwing traps at CL1-5 behind Espa will only get you 1XP, so don't do it
Mission Terms in Mos Espa (EXCEPT the one behind the cloner) will give you CL15 missions. Pick non socially aggressive creatures, that don't have ranged attacks. Don't kill the creature till you have to, milk it for all the trap XP you can get. Your trap XP is awarded on each successful trap now, not at the kill.
The mission term behind the cloner will give you missions at your CL, so us it and haul out more missions as you progress.
Happy hunting

Actually, you sure you have to kill it? Was grouped with a ranger last night who was getting XP per throw and not per kill.
Yea same here, as long as the trap sticks i get my xp right away.

That sounds like exactly how it should be working. If I'm a Level 80 Master Ranger/Master Rifleman, I shouldn't have the same speed/abilities with Pistols as a Master Pistoleer. Same thing with trapping. You shouldn't be as good at trapping as a Master Ranger if you only have novice scout. Seems perfectly logical to me.
Hmm, on second thought I suppose you're right. I mean if someone has marksman 4/4/0/4 and is a master rifleman, they're not going to be using a pistol to kill creatures around their own level. The only difference with trapping is that it will eventually become impossible to use traps against creatures around their own level (with pistols the option is still there to use them, although no sane person would).
