In the back of my head for a while now, I've been toying with the idea of whether a ranger vendor would be viable and I'd appreciate people's thoughts on whether they have seen such things on other servers, what was good about them, or simply whether you think it's a good idea or not.
The kind of thing I am thinking of is twofold:
1. A place for Rangers to drop off spare animal resources and then for other professions to purchase them.
and/or
2. A one-stop shop for Rangers for the sort of things we can't get ourselves - cheap metal for traps and camps, bio-engineered ranger-esque clothing, decent weapons, jawa beer, veghash, brandy and other foodstuffs etc. etc.
So what do people think to that basic idea? Also, where would you most ideally find such a vendor? Somewhere busy like Coronet or Mos Eisley or in the back end of beyond on various planets so you can pick up stuff 'in the field'.
Any thoughts people??

People have brought the idea up in the past and I believe there are a few people that actually have vendors. A group of the Rangers on Lowca used to have a vendor house set up and run by Draknev and we would offer or stuff to his vendors and he would sell them for us but the Merchant item limit fix led to the fall of our consortium. Right now my alt has Master Merchant and I plan to place an Organic vendor along side my food vendor but I've been too busy trying to get our city off the ground. I think its a pretty good idea. Just put your crap resources up and sell it to the grinders, maybe a few traps and camps or crates or camo kits for those rangers or scouts who dont want to make them. Our city is actually near the ocean on talus so I plan on getting some fishing poles and bait to put on mine as well.

I remember a couple of people toying with the idea a while ago. I dont remember which server it was on though. The major downside is that it requires someone to give up their template in order to take some merchant skills.
There is a trap vendor in my home town on the Azaki server, though its pretty much just a place to store my hundred crates of traps I made, though they are there for a fair price if anyone else wants to buy them.
I'd say there was a market for a Rnger vendor, traps, camps, etc. If possible get a merchant friend to put you up a vendor in a shopping mall somewhere, and advertise the heck out of it. If in a few weeks/month you have found that its selling out quickly, step up production and revel in your shrewd business plan.

My alt is/was a master merchant, so I tried the idea of a vendor with every scout/ranger item craftable at 4240 ranger. I priced the camps and traps at a flat 10cpu, and the camo kits were priced at resources*uses. So a Yavin camo kit with 10 charges using 85 resources would sell for 850 creds. Had them split into crates of 25, 10, 5, and singles. It was up for over a month and advertized in my forums sig. Didn't sell a single item.
A friend of mine tried a creature resource vendor. He found that the premium stuff would get completely bought out, and the grind stuff didn't move at all. Maybe if you are bringing in 10K of various creature resources a day, you could get the attention of the reclusive bio engineers and the architects looking for wooly, but I just don't see a vendor friendly market for what we do.

We had a Ranger Vendor in the PA hall for a while. Just crates of traps, camps, grinding resources, stuff like that. Used to get a few sales every once in a blue, but, to be fair, it wasn't advertised other than pointing new players at it whenever we heard them looking for stuff to get started with.
The Lowca Consortium idea seemed to have a bit of mileage, and, if you can get folk to cooperate by helping stock with decent resources, you could be on to something.
Oh for a few dozen more SP...

I won't buy what I can make. Consider that a lot of us may be FS grinding, sorta kinda. I get XP for "wasting" 10 minutes sitting in camp making the couple hundred (literally) traps I am going to throw. Double xp in fact.
The second vendor, stuff we can use but can't usually make, will probably get more business.

I did have a ranger shop called The Lost Ranger but i just gave it up because i was getting to busy in rl.
It was fun whilst it lasted but then again i didnt just stock ranger goods, i stocked everything scout and ranger related. Clothing, BE enhanced clothings, foods, organics, 100% fishing poles, camps, camo, traps etc.
Made me quiet a lot of money but in the end, i just fell out of love with the shop owner idea.

heheh...i went the "cheap" route and just put up a "Hardware Store"
as it stands, i think everyone has seen "Hakai's Hardware: Hunting Outfitter since 9/22/03" at least once on the intrepid galaxy.

I was one of the people who was tossing this idea around on the forums a month or so ago. If you search for "ranger vendor", I'm sure you'll find it; there's some good input in there.
I am right in the middle of collecting the necessary resources for my last few camo kits and then I'll be setting up my ranger vendor. I'm planning to sell all things ranger related and likely some organics too (although mostly for grind purposes). I am not expecting to make a ton of money off this. I'm really just doing it to make a more cohesive ranger community on Naritus and give me something to do. I've got my "ranger cabin" all decked out for the ranger/scout community and hopefully I'll be up and running soon. I'll let you know how things go!

Looks like I need to tour the galaxies and see what is going on. Thanks to all for their comments - do keep them coming, much appreciated. If I do start a new char on these other servers just to take a look, are you guys who have vendors or setting them up able to help me find you and show me around?

I'd be glad to show you around. Just remember I'm leaving in like 3 hours and won't have access to the game for at least a week. My shop is in my Sig if you care to hop on and take a look while I'm gone. I don't havethe Rangervendor set up as of yet and my tent isn't decorated right now so there really isn't much to see though. And to tell you the truth I haven't even really decided what to sell off of it yet either. Man thanks for posting this, its got me thinking a ton and now I realize I'm really unorganized right now lol.

I got a vendor to use from a Master Merchant so i can sell grinding resources.
And suprisingly enough, i manage to sell pretty good from it aswell.
But i think the merchants should have the options to add other ppl as admins on the vendors,
because the "offer for 1 cred.", "send mail with price.", deal is anoying each time i place
something up for sale.
But it works.
And from what i hear, alot of people really apretiate the vendor in the area.
Saves them time looking for a Ranger/Scout to place a deal to get grinding material.
