Why am I a Ranger?I'm one because of threads like the one I just read,it's called "orig?".This guy was asking about bone he was collecting, and before I was finished reading his question,I knew what he was asking about. He obviously didn't know about shifts. It was a plain andsimple question that could have been responded to like they are in some other forums. But every responce I read to his question was informative and helpful. No "dood u r a looser" or "your stupid".There are a lot of things in the game that may stump a beginner and it's nice to go get clear answers on the forums.I'm glad we as a community are mature enough to answer each question that comes through here with respect to the poster(well for the most part).

By the time I had read the entire thread,I was just so filled with pride that I had to post this.Paks,Phoenix, thank you for answering this guy and giving helpful information. This is why I went,am and will always be a Ranger. There seems to be a certian respect for Rangers and this is why.

Sorry for the drivel, back to my hole.

I'm quite new here to, and I have to say that people on this forum are much nicer than on the others. Though that's not the reason why I became a ranger. I first wanted to be a bounty hunter (like every noob). When i masterd scout i found out i didn't need it, and I was to stubborn to drop it after raising my camp skill (god i hated that). So I started looking at the ranger proffession. And I liked it for 2 reasons.
A) I didn't have to drop scout and get even better with it.
B) I've got a good reason to not go to cities. My computer is soooo slow, it takes like half an hour to walk through mos eisley, so i stick to the wildlife as much as possible, prefering a mount over a speeder cuz they don't lag as much

The reason I wanted to be a ranger.

I once saw a PvP battle in Anchorhead. There were two rangers. One on either side. And it wasnt just casual pvp. This was one of those battles that winds on the forums and in chats. People were mad at their opposing side. The Rebel Ranger had DBed the Imperial Ranger.

A week later I see both rangers hunting together on Dathomir. All the other pvpers on both sides hated each other cause of the one battle. But not those rangers.

Then several weeks later I was sitting in my scout camp on Dathomir resting after a baz nitch attack. A master ranger came and sat in my camps for 30 minutes to help me get XP. Even gave me a camo hit.

That is why I wanted to be a ranger. It goes beyond faction and beyond players. Its about a group of like minded individuals that work together even when they are apart.

Nice story by the way.

I think I will add my 2 cents here.

I know almost all the Rangers in my galaxy, there are a few that I have only seen. We are a small group. Though the numbers seem to be increasing lately.

About a week ago I was out hunting, and decided to camp. I pulled out a little improved camp, and started going thru my pack checking out the quality of some of the hunting. I had a novice Ranger approach my camp, and was surprised to see the Master tag. He had come over to help me with XP.

It's the people like that, is the reason I stay Master Ranger.

Well i am on my way to Mastering CH and dabbling in Ranger, but i have met quit a few of both Life styles...and to be quite frank they are the best people on SWG...always helpful. Always...it's why i want both titles....seems the more "ADULT" minded people gravitate to these "supporting" jobs....i commend both groups.

The reason i am a Ranger was that in the begining i wanted to be able to craft and place the biggest and best Camp there is, however, along the way something happened......I found that whenever i needed training in Ranger I couldn't find it, no matter how hard i looked or how loud i yelled, nothing!. I then found i could search for player types (great i'll give this a go) to my suprise i got an answer pretty much straight away "training? sure, where are you" - 2 mins later along came a Master Ranger and taught me Trapping 2, what followed was a conversation that lasted nearly an hour, discussing SWG, Rangers and other skills besides, I still keep in contact with him as i do all the kind people who taught and helped me gain Master

Whilst on my way to Master Ranger i have talked to many people and visited even more camps, traded with Scouts, Rangers and just people trying to get along in SWG and helped people out with skills and XP.....

I show my Master Ranger Tag with pride now, i think it commands a certain amount of respect from all players and kind of puts you as the 1st port of call for newbs and seasoned vets all the same...

What i wasn't prepared for was the friends i have come into contact with through just being a Ranger......thx guys

It is a bit of shame i only disovered these boards as i was nearing Master :-(

When I started playing, I didn't really have the insight to see where I'd end up; I just kind of randomly advanced in professions that worked for me (I was noviceof all the basic professions-- aka, the Master Newb).

I arrived at the rifles/scout combot purely by experimentation. Brawler, no matter how hard I tried, didn't fit my playstyle; pistolsare secksay, but I didn't like being so close to targets; carbines are, well, carbines, lol-- to be fair, I mastered them later on another character, and had a lot of fun; and, moreover, NONE of these seemed to have anysynergy with anything elseopen to me. That was VERY important to me, because I like to use tactics and strategy. So,and this is true, don't laugh: I liked scout & rifleswhen I was newjust becauseI could use headshot1 with those scout traps that damage mind (sharp bone spurs?). That is all -- serious. Ifigured traps cripple with states, and then rifles comesin and hits the weakest pool. That was the coolest combo I could find. Then, when I got /maskscent, I was hooked. Months later, I'm a Master Ranger and Master Rifleman.

So, yeah... I ended up with my entire template because of those damn bone spurs, lol. I thought scout 0100 and marksman 1000 was the most powerful thing in the game... (And it is; it pwns all!)

It's funny how excited I got over those little, insignificant things... Imiss being a newb.

just to throw my two creds in...

i started a musican, after mastering it in beta (& though i am not sure if there are any beta-musicans around, the proff worked the way the devs intended in beta... people hanging out live in cantinas, making bands, role playing & making macro songs that *really* sounded good... hell, i never left coronet & was happy)... then, when live happend i eventually got bored with remaking my old character... i liked the rifelman description from the sourcebook & after a friend of mine, who was teaching me combat on myfirst trip out of the city, dropped a multiperson camp for me to heal in... i was hooked.

that very day i looked at the description of ranger in the guide book... stopped to think "i can maybe get the really freakin' cool lookin' armor someday", because it *must* be ranger armor, & oh, yeah, i really dig that "outdoorsy" lifestyle (camping, hiking & fishing being realworld favs)...

& ranger it was.

nowi also stick around because i know thati am one of the elite of the elite... those who have a vision for the what they want, & who have the stamina & perserverance to stick it out...

well... ok, i just hope that the revamp happens someday...

though, & much of this comes from the forum since i spend most of my gametime solo, this is the only profession that has that same sense of community & roleplaying that the entertainer professions had in beta. this is one of the few professions that works on that roleplay level (despite the fact that much of it does not work on a mechanics level). & for that reason i think is the best profession in the game.

I have two characters, one on radiant (though I haven't played him in months) and one on naritus. Both are rangers, because both were scouts and I really enjoyed scout abilities. Plus, I've always liked the ranger profession in damn near every game I've played (well, that had a ranger prof). Rangers are just cool, and that's that.

As an added bonus, the ranger forum is simply the best forum SWG has in terms of wit and community. I'm also a TKM, I've tried out fencer, swordsman, rifleman, CH, and maybe a couple others that I'm forgetting. With the possible exception of CH, there's just somethingmissing from all the other profession forums. A warmth, a friendliness, and (ironically) a degree of sophistication. Maybe some other stuff as well. Just one more perk to being a ranger, I suppose.

I'm a Ranger because I've been a Ranger in every P&P RPG and every pc RPG that allowed Rangers.

It's always been a class I've enjoyed no matter what game I was playing.

The saddest part is knowing that I'll have to lose the Master box and 3 of the 4th level boxes when I do the FS thing.(I have CH 0/1/0/1 and I want to keep that...Let's me use mounts that are higher then Level 10. Now if I can only find a Pack Leader or Master CH to train my dappled gualama as a mount...*LOL*).
