when you get tracking 4 can you track any player regardless of there location not just a limit if the area close but throughout the galaxy.

it tracks the same as animal and npc tracking, 500 meter radius.

Can someone explain to me how tracking works? I'm interested in using it in conjunction with BE/CH to find creatures so I really don't need tracking 4 right? I could care less about tracking players. My real question, is there really any other benefit for me to go beyond Tracking 3 (better range, etc.)? I'd like directional tracking and if I'm not mistaken, at Tracking 3 I can also see 2 special attacks. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

in tracking IV you get more creature knowledge, etc. more info when you examine

You are correct in some ways. Tracking 3 will give you what creatures or players(NPC) in what direction, and how far away. All tracking is only within 500m. That is it. The other info you spoke of like special attacks etc. is in the examine window of a creature. If you have master scout you will get a lot of info there. As you progress in Ranger, I forget what skill line, you get more info. I think I was seeing special attacks when I was only level 1 tracker if that helps you at all.

For finding creatures to hunt or tame tracking 3 is your best. You wont need more then that. If you are short on points tracking 2 will do, just wont show you distance.

At tracking 2 rangers get ability to track NPCs, so yes.

There's no shame in asking RTFM questions any more, because these days, there are just too many FM to R.

What is the main difference in tracking 3 and 4, besides the fact that you can track players. Does it increase the radius that you can track or does it just add the option to track players?

Tracking radius is somewhat debatable. Last I tested, there was a difference in range between the various tracking levels (i.e. you could track farther at tracking 4 than you could at tracking 3). It was not an especially thorough test but I have heard the same results from others before.
