Thread: I have it, an Idea that will put Rangers on the map.

Certainly would be helpful. I don't like having to evaluate if I can survive fighting this animal only because he might DB me. I've had enough walkaways to feel confident that I can survive it though..heh.

"How about a skill mod that gives you a greater and greater chance as you progress up the skill trees that creature(yes just creatures) won't DeathBlow."

That, and having the darn creatures stop killing me immediately on incap, would be quite spiffy.

Nope don't like it. Here's why.

What kind of empathy does a Ranger have over an aggro creature to say "Please don't kill me. I know I was hunting you and I was gonna kill you, but please don't kill me."? One, I think it would imbalance the game. Taking away DB would be looked upon with much skepticism not just by the devs but other classes too who will be whining "They get it we want it too". Two, what power does an unconscious Ranger have over an animal?

Now, here could be a solution. Conceal. Make the non-DB a part of the Conceal skill. Animals only kill what they assume is either a threat or food. If they can't smell you and have a hard time seeing you, odds are they will just leave you alone. Especially if their sense of smell tells them that the body in front of them has no smell and is probably dead. (kinda like Feign Death). But realistically, I can't see giving even a Master Ranger more than a +50 to non-DB. But, having an aggro creature walk away 50% of the time is better than 0% of the time.

How about a skill mod that gives you a greater and greater chance as you progress up the skill trees that creature(yes just creatures) won't DeathBlow. For example, Novice Ranger gets a +20 vs DB. The higher up you go the more defensive bonuses you get. At Master Ranger you could have a 80-90 % chance that a creature that would normally deal a death blow, walks away. Perhaps it should only apply when you have used a camo kit to give them more functionality, or even the ability to craft kits that make you unappealing prey once hostilities end.

Is this just corny? I know I wouldn't be droping Ranger shortly if we had this.

I like it... And perhaps higher up in the tree, maybe at Master Ranger, have the ability shared with everyone in your group, that would make it worthwhile to have a Ranger with you.

While I'd love to survive, I think it needs a lot of realistic restrictions (realistic always relative of course ). If a Gurreck Hill-top Hunter decides to come after me without me attacking it, it means it wants to kill me. It won't be faked away by a lack of smell or sight, it saw me before and has torn my throat out, it will DB.

In fact I can only think of onesituation where a creature would not DB where it usually would, and that's when it's at a range. Sometimes a non-DB creature has taken me down while a DB creature was attacking me with a ranged attack. Normally it would likely aproach and DB you anyway, but if you're concealed it might not find you again.

Any other situation involves a creature fighting you and winning, and there's just no way it would suddenly no longer see you.

True, I was referring more to the DB animals who don't attack you first. As far as the whole "seeing" thing, we have to remember to think on the level of an animal. They have very small brains and rely on their sense of smell above all else. There are few animals that rely on their sight primarily. If it smells like food, it is food. In this instance Conceal or Mask Scent would be valuable. ....as long as it's not interrupted first....

Well, if you think about it, we kill all the creatures immediately on incap as well. Plus, we don't even need to be within DB range to kill them, and they do. I'm surprised that the gnorts haven't started complaining about nerfing the players or something....

HAHAHAHAHA

Yeh, I'm gonna log on one day to find Theed overtaken by thousands of fed-up Gnorts, overbearing every Ranger and Scout in sight.

While this is a cool idea, I think it's too un-realistic and unbalacing. In the real world, if you've just been knocked out it's a bit hard to find just the right bush to hide in as you fall to the ground. Also, this would make it a lot easier for Rangers to solo aggressive creatures. Maybe some sort of restriction on part of this idea (like a time limit or something) would make it more applicable to SWG.

Aye. The Gnort lobby apparently just doesn't have the backing it needs to get anything done about this obvious exploitation.

They should strike!
