This is the post i just put on the events forum:

Entertainer camp– Much like a scout camp, this would be a pavilion or other temporary structre designed just for events. Musical instruments, tables, chairs, bar etc. Something players can use for weddings or other functions out in the world.

Why not just ask a ranger to set up a camp for you? This sort of thing is already being done and is seen by some as the last use we have for our camps. Are we going to lose that too? Instead make it so entertainers can heal battle fatigue and buffin our camps. Let players temporarily drop furniture(including vendors, tipboxes, etc...) in the camp. When the camp disbands, the items return to their owners inventory. But keep in mind high level camps already have plenty of seating.

That was in response to a suggested(by one of the "red names") list of player event tools. The Entertainer camp was one thing in the list that I thought wasn't right. I urge you all to go have a look at that post on the Events forum.

Let them have it. It's a cool event feature and we should be looking for a revamp instead of holding on to the more or less "pathetic" excuses/uses for our profession ( and no, I don't think weddings etc. are pathetic but we don't invest 140 skill points to be able to put up eye-candy for events).

Compromise: Let Master Rangers craft these camps. Might be some monkeys in it for us

Never give up the opportunity for a free Outdoorsman plug!

I made the assumption in my reply that this would OF COURSE go to the Rangers, since we are the camp masters hehe.

No the post from the devs said entertainers would get their own camp. That's what made me bent. I would rather haveOUR camps be useful to them.

I really am in two minds about this.

Camps, as they stand, are a key component of our skill tree. But these are paramilitary style beses, not travelling circus pavilions. True, they need fixing, and as that particular mem has been hammered flat so often I'll not go there, atm.

I would LIKE Scout/Rangers to retain control over the temporary structures in game.

OTOH

Can you imagine how much, err, 'fun' it would be, being asked to pop a camp for an enterteiner centred event, then having to hang about for and hour, two, three... resetting the camp, fretting over all that Tat avian that you could be harvesting for the docs who are flooding your screen with ever more frantic /tells??

I think a precedent has been set for profession specific tents/camps with the Merchant tent and the introduction of the ID tent (which as I understand it may eventually be an ID placed structure?). If these tentlike structures take up a plot, require maintainence and also a high-ish professional level to place, they aren't a threat to our camps. The sort of event they would be used for (due to the costs of aquiring and using) would not be the sort of thing we'd be popping a base out for.

As a means of adding flavour and texture to the game I'd go so far as to welcome a range of tentlike profession specific structures. A market stall for the artisan tree, the merhcant tent for merchants, ID tent for ID's, a whopping great marquee for entertainers...

OTOHOH

Before they go introducing stuff like that they bad better sort out our flipping kit!

Cool...Thanks

You can got to the thread and copy the address out of the address bar and paste it in another thread. To actually make it clickable, you need some HTML skills (minor ones). I will visit there and make a link unless someone else does first.

Good point but that is easily adressed by allowing entertainers to place the special tent(not make it!). I believe the idea is addressed in the Outdoorsman proposal.... **cough** modular camps **cough**

The difference between those and an events entertainer tent (at least to my understanding) is that the ID and merchant "tents" are/will beconsidered structures not camps. They take up lots and you pay maintenance (the ID onecan't be placed yet, but you can bet it will be that way) just like with your house. Camps neither require maintenance nor a lot. And that seems to be what they want; a temporary camp for entertainers to use. Also worth pointing out.. merchants do not make the merchant tent... architects do.
