Thread: Anyone have thoughts on Ranger and GCW
As we all know, the fire that burns under the GCW is beginning to heat up. I wanted to see if I could get some thoughts on how you folks see us becoming valuable in the GCW. I can see how as Master Rangers our HTFBs could be used a myriad of ways but how else could we be used and seen as great assets in the GCW?
Do we become more Tactical in use or....?
Your thoughts, my friends. Owen?

Hehe. I understand. My thing is that I love to hunt too but am a Gunslinger at heart. Gues that makes me a Tactical Ranger. :0
So, it's neutral I'll be.
I am not sure I'll be so keen on going through towns where it's just a hail of gunfire and, with minefields, faction bases, CTF games and full on warfare going on out in the wild, tbh, am waiting to see how this publish is implemented before deciding whether I stay ingame at all.

Not a new idea by any means but after reading the changes with the GCW, I see a need for an escort service. Not all crafters will be Netural. Many are very attached to their faction.
It would be fun to "sneak" others past opposing faction. Thinking NPC's and non combatants here. (Is that the right term for covert?) Ehh..wishes in a fountain.
Good Idea but the smugglers see this as their territory as well

Arn't the Rangers seen to be helpers to the Jedi in thier quests and such? Ummm. No. That's a very specific groupof Rangers that's in the EU. Ranger is a profession, not a specifc group. Are all pistoleers supposed to be rebel because Han Solo was? Sorry man, this argument is totally out of touch with what an MMo should be. Would that not be thier part in the GCW as well as having an elite combat profession and shooting up Rebs or Storm Troopers?
Think about this for one second. If they're shooting people...then they aren't using their Ranger skills. What it means for each profession to have a role in the GCW is that if someone is ONLY that profession, they need to have a role. That means a person who is Ranger, and ONLY ranger, needs to have a role in the GCW. Again, you can't force stipulations on people. Meaning you can't say "to participate in the GCW as a Rifleman you must also have Doctor. See the problem?Thought I read how a Ranger could use the Rescue Skill on a Jedi and in turn enter into combat mode with the person he was being attacked by (have not tried it yet, don't know a Jedi willing to test it). Maybe I misread somthing. Two things: first, rescue is buggy and is generally referered to as the suicide button. and if a Jedi can't kill somebody, how do you as a Ranger expect to be able to?Second: OUR ROLE ISN'T SAVING JEDI. You're basing your thoughts on Ranger on a small segment of the Range population, who in turn in basing it off of a small group in the EU. Rangers are not the Jedi helpers. That is not our role. Some people CHOOSE to play that way, but that's a choice, nota professional role.

Have to agree with this one. I've never been into PvP in any game but love co-op play. Fighting another person, even in an airtight combat system, still means too much whining and complaining when/if you beat them imo.
And PvE faction enabled in the new system means I will spend half my hunting time fending off rebel attacks rather than harvesting the critters I am after.
I think if this had happened 8 months ago when I started then I would have been more up for it, but due to game constraints and general frustration at the GCW I discovered Ranger, a PvE specific profession really, coupled that with rifles where the best attacks are done at range and from cover which is useless in PvP, and now I'm hooked on hanging out in the wilds, learning to survive on my own or with 1-2 others, and letting the war happen without me.
I guess we'll see what happens.. I will at least re-join the Imps for a shiny set of Biker Scout armour and fight 1-2 PvP, PvE battles to see if I like it.
I was just pointing out what I have read. Was not trying to make an argument or force a point of view per say. Just trying to participate and learn more about the Ranger Profession.
