Confusing title? Sure. I am looking to hire rangers, but thats not really what this post is about. Besides I already know about the Rangers For Hire post at the top. My questions is basically this.. Why are good harvesters so hard to find. I constatly see large numbers of players complaining about having so little money, but if ever a scout had the motivation to actually seek out contracts for harvesting, any scout who even did a half assed job would make millions. Any rangers have an opinion as to why there are so few out there? I know its not hard work.. I harvested 500k of the last shift of Dathomirian Carnivore meat on my server in one day. Just dont understand it lol.

500k in one day?
You're undead aren't you?
I can only speak for myself, but I have an insane aversion to actually asking for jobs. Maybe it's some side effect from RL. In any case, I don't need to. I usually browse the trade forum for contracts, if I'm feeling like it I'll harvest a little and drop it off. Then the customer usually puts me on some sort of list - so in effect the jobs come to me. I don't do as much as a quarter-assed job and I make millions. I take what comes.

Either, folk can earn money easily and don't need to go looking for work or they couldn't earn money in a **edited for family content** so whine about it.
Whichever way, I put it down to people just being weird.

Well I can't speak for anyone else but i know I don't take contracts out with people because I supply my guild and my friends with resources and they supply me with buffs or whatever else I need. I have no need for money except to help pay city maintenance, but I take care of that with selling food for the most part. I'm not a particularly rich Ranger as far as money goes( not to say I couldn't be if I wanted to sell what I harvest), but I make up for it with friends. To me this game isn't about being the most wealthy person on the server or owning the most uber crap this game has to offer, its about being around good company and going on hunts and helping each other out. Hell on occasion I've been known to give extra resources to random people asking for them for free just because I can.
Another reason I don't take contracts is because of what you just said....500k in 1 day is a hell of a lot of meat to pull in. I can pull in about 100k in 3 hours on Dath if I wanted to, but thats too tedious and not any fun and I don't want to be put in a situation where I have to hunt 2 buff sessions a day for 5 days straight to fill an order. I like hunting as much as the next guy but I have to have some variety and some time to hang with the guild and friends. And if you get hit with a contract for a starter planet look out. I don't even harvestAvian from half the starter planets even for guild members because it sucks so bad.
Bottom line is I don't take contracts because I'm loyal to my guild and dedicate 200% of my time to them and my friends. Contracts would just be like having a job and get in the way of me having fun with the guild.
Hope that answered your question and didn't stray too far off topic. Its.....5:30 am and I need to get some sleep.

I seldom if ever take contracts, as they invariably end up being for stuff like Tat avian.
A recent shift on my server dropped great Lok avian into our laps - the docs went ape, offering 250cpu - and cut prices two days later when they realized they were going broke. I dropped a mere 12k on one guy and think guildies matched that. Serious money for him, 3 hours work max for me. Tough to power harvest avian.
Artisans want huge stacks all the time, not realizing I don't think it's fun to go out on a continuous basis and hunt whenever I get into the game. Tailors are ok, as hides are hides, I can nail a 10k stack in no time. Meat is another story as it invariably drops in small quantities for the best stuff.
I don't need contracts. I have 25 mil plus in the bank as I type, and can easily make expenses for a very long time. (Won't talk about the looted posters in my pack either) Simply, if I need money, I can go out, run a couple of BS missions on Endor, get mission money and some herbie meat to sell for 10cpu as bulk grinding meat.
Contracts are a waste of my time. I get what I get when I want to get it.

- Maybe this accounts for the sudden recent upsurge in the Ranger population. Are these scouts that are complaining about not having money or just players in general?
- How do you know they haven't sought out harvesting contracts? Maybe they just haven't gone to you?
- Don't need millions. Got millions but have nothing to spend them on.
- Hard? No. Tedious and boring when under contract? Absolutely.
- And you need to hire a ranger why?

A-Men. Same thing goes for tracking creatures for money, when I have free time and not rangering with/for guild (or other close friends), I get on one of my crafter alts and work on crafting items or harvesting/surveying for the guild (no retail business there either for the same reasons)

Well, to this I must write something.
- 500k carni meat in one day... Guess you are TKM, buffed all the time, working 24hrs? Or combinations of a few of those mentioned or even all? I'm a Ranger/CH with basic riflemen skills. Hence I do not barge in and KOS any animal I see on site. As a ranger,I keep balance in nature, picking only those animals I need. And yes, it takes me a lot longer to do so.
- Doing it only for credits? Why does a Ranger need credits? We live in the wild, from the wild. I do hunting for my pleasure, not purely to become rich. I've got credits, still getting more but by taking a few orders here and there when they come along. Currently delivering about 10k meat a day for a customer, which makes us both happy. I could do double or even more if I'd set my mind to it, but there are more things to consider.
- Most important part for me is having fun. Be that in the wild, just sitting in a camp, listening to the creatures around me, walking on some very nice sceneries, riding my pets, sampling creatures on different places. Trying to home my tracking skills by looking for certain species... Not everything has to do with credits, some things are just impossible to buy by any means of credits.
Just my thoughts about this issue...

Well, I don't actively seek contracts, but when someone advertises a really large one, I'll jump on it for a few days. To be honest, I'm lucky enough to be in a great guild that is very good at taking care of it's own, and thanks to that, most of us don't need or have really large bank accounts. The crafters in the guild gt their resources from us scouts for free, and in return we get really cheap equipment and armors. I've not had to pay for armor, weapons, BE clothes, food, meds, or a droid for a long time now and it's because of the time I spend hunting/tracking for the guild.
So, I guess the moral of my story is, it isn't about the money, it's about the people I play with. I'd much rather go trak Blurgg Raptors for 3 hours for a guildmate who I know has been working on his Jedi for a long time now than go hunt Avian meat for 200CPU.

I have worked contracts before, but rarely. I have a saying "if the game feels too much like work, you need to rethink how you play." I know too many people who work/grind themselves to death, losing sight of the fun along the way.A lot of poeple dont realize the monotony of gathering x amount of a certain kind of meat, it can begin to wear on you. I will hunt contract if i need the money, but that in itself is rare. Most of the hunting I do is for either my own pleasure or helping friends that need it.

Contracts? Naaaa...If I need some credits I listen to the barkers, hunt what they need and offer it to their vendors. If I really wanted to be an "uber" hunter I would drop 1/2 of Ranger and get a Master in a combat profession.
My toon is 100% fun. Master Ranger, Master Creature Handler, able to kill a kreedle in a single buff!

I have only now just gotten ranger and really don't plan on doing contracts for credits, to me that sounds to much like actual work. I listen to what people are asking for via barkers or shouts and will be glad to hunt for those resources and bring them to market but really don't want to be tied down to a schedule or a contract. If a city resident or friend needs something specific, I may go out of my way to go get it for them but that's about it.
To me, there is just somthing about spending spending days out hunting where ever the trail takes me and then selling it on the open market. Just think that's kind of cool.
As far as making credits, I'll do missions or quests usually for money if I need some real quick. I'm still developing my tracking skill so I am not much of a tracker yet.

Exactly my approach. I'm out of town for work a lot, so I just get what I can when I can and still make bundles.
