I used to be a Ranger (4-2-4-4) / Bounty Hunter (0-4-0-0) and did all of my hunting with a Laser Carbine. I could solo Snorbals on Lok,Rogue Fambaas on Naboo, and Dragonettes on Tatooine.I could kill most other players in PvP with 2-4 shots. But to get Master Ranger I would have to drop to 0-3-0-0 in Bounty Hunter. I was also going crazy trying to gather Avian Meat on Talus one bird at a time. So I switched from Bounty Hunter to Carbineer.

I am currently a Ranger (4-3-4-4) / Carbineer (0-3-0-2) and still use a Laser Carbine for all my hunting. My effectiveness in PvP dropped considerably, but I'm having fun hunting! Full Auto Area is great for large groups of smaller creatures. Last night I came on a group of 5 Howling Rasps. I shot and killed one to get the group to aggro on me and then used Full Auto Area 1 on the rest. I dropped all 4 of them with one shot!

Tonight I'm going to go try Crippling Shot on some larger creatures.

So what class do you use along with Ranger and what do you hunt with?

Heheh this about the 8th or 9th post in last week or so.

Anyways, Rifleman 4-1-1-3, CH, MR/MS

If it moves shoot it.
If it moves and baf's OH kitty kitty
attack, then flurryshot2 till dead. (cl16 and under) watch out aoe attacks some times hit lairs . opps.

or sometimes Its just me and no kitty's (do to zone line pet stopping etc) so fire up some traps, swap out e11 rifle w/ spraystick and run around like toddler watching cartoons.
for even more fun unequip rifle and here chuba, chuba, meet my fist

I use my trusty Scout Blaster, 62-195 / 1.2, my terrifying Mountain Squil (Smelly), and a shot of Tatooine Sunburn. Smelly scares the begezus out of most animals, while I stand back and layout the fancy gunwork. Ohh, you should see when I fire off fanshot with this gun, I fill up half the screen with a constant barrage of fire. On bigger prey sometimes Smelly can't handle it, then I take Chibi my Graul Mauler, he is a brave one.

Welcome to the club..a ranger/carbineer too. I'm at 3/4/3/3 in carbineer and a master ranger. Try cripple shot out..you will love it and hate it There is a 2 to 3 sec delay attached to it and it hits a random pool, but with my high quality, sliced laser carbine with good power up I can hit for between 3500 and 4000 with cripple shot. It's a nice feeling when you can one shot tortur bullson talus Full auto area 2is great too, I can hit multiple targets for over 1000 each, and the knock down is great. If we could only get them to fix the EE3 carbine so that the radius feature works I would have even more fun.

I use a a specially trained killer duck, found only on one planet. His HAM is about 8000 per, he has 4 special attacks, is 85% resistant to all attacks and has giant webbed feet. Nope, not telling ya where I got him either, tis a secret, mine and mine alone.

im about the same skills as Exodite, Ranger 4,3,3,3 and Carbineer 0,3,0,1. the area attack is very good for weaker creatures, and ok for stronger ones as long as they arent aggro to you and you have extra support fire. Cripple shot hits for around 2000 with a laser carbine, but doesnt always hit the action pool.

"I use my trusty Scout Blaster, 62-195 / 1.2" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Where the hell did you get one that good? /me wants.

Anyway, I use the following combination: sic greater sludge panther on target, /healthshot, then spam /doubleshot with fwg5. I just got enough pistol xp for stopping shot today, so I reckon that /doubleshot'll be replaced. I've adjusted my stats so that my specials don't cost much HAM. They're set just right so that I can don my chitin armour suit at need (at need = no GSP.)

This'll probably make me a "not-real Ranger," but I haven't used traps since getting adv. trapping IV and don't intend to ever again if I can help it. They were just a pain to me, and took away precious weapon xp.

Also, before another thread starts up about it, the biggest creature I've now soloed is a gronda patriarch. And, yes, soloed. I'd found a lair for them and they kept spawning. I'd take out 3 grondas and a patriarch and by that time they'd started to "re-pop." I don't know how many I ended up killing, but I went through my 4 full-grown GSPs and a half-grown one. After the last one bought the farm, I decided to get serious about taking out the lair. And, of course, one more patriarch spawned. So, with judicious use of /warningshot and the terrain advantage (I ran uphill,) I managed to take it out. ~3500 pistol, 550 scouting, about 90 units on the harvest. I was pretty proud of myself. Then I got my ass kicked by a crazed durni on my way back to Bela Vistal.

I'm a Master CH and use those as my main weapons. Besides that I use rifles. I carry every possible rifle. That way, I can use my ranger skills to view a creature's vulnerabilities and use the corresponding weapon. Anyone interested in commando? Commando/Ranger would be an extremely effective combo.

I hunt reds with my scout blaster or DX2.

I maskscent, then run to 68m, then I hit prone, crawl the next 6m forward, then pop a healthshot1 and healthshot2 into my target, followed by bodyshot3 spam.

Once it catches wind of where I am (after a good 12-16 shots), I jump to a kneeling position and fire off a warning shot, followed by hitting peace to ensure that I don't shoot again and draw it back to me.

Then I spam BS3 until it comes back, then warning shot, and repeat until dead.

If my mobs bring a friend or something happens that I didn't plan for, I rely on adhesive mesh traps to snare until I can escape, and use warning shots on unwanted visitors.

I rarely die, needless to say, even against reds.

As a hunter, I don't believe in using droids or pets to hunt. I always hunt alone.

someone mentioned commando ranger...you wouldn't be able to go very far as a commando if you mastered ranger. 140 points for ranger, 77 points for marksman, 29 points for unarmed...246 points. hehe, so you aren't even getting novice (which presumably isn't very far).

i've been a rifle ranger, a pistol ranger, and will soon be trying tka ranger. if i'm not satisfied here, i'll try carbines i really liked rifle, but the prone bug drove me batty. pistol was nice too, but just didn't feel 'ranger-ish' /shrug

if tk and carbine don't work out for me, then maybe i'll try full out ch (no combat). and if that doesn't work, i'll resign to being a bard again
