Thread: Give Rangers a loyal pet
Since Rangers don't get any type of combat skills and the class absolutely requires you to pick up some Rifle,Carbine or Pistol skills how about giving the Ranger one very unique pet to him/her.
The pet would be somewhere around level 18-26 and would be attained somewhere in the middle of the skill tree. The pet would act like any other pets in the game...droid, Faction NPC or Animal pet. The pet could never die but could become incapacitated.
Maybe put some restrictions on the pet that it can be the only pet called at any given time. I think this might add some nice flavor to the Ranger class
I've thought from day one a Ranger should get ONE pet.
Now lets look at pets.. CH can get level 60 pets(Gurrecks, Rancors, etc..)
So why not make it so Ranger can get a pet that's level 20 max at say Novice.. and level 40 max at Master Ranger.
That keeps them noticably weaker than CH pets, but it also lets Rangers who don't want to use guns solo. (I'm sure there are people who want master scout/ranger and don't want to fight..No clue why, but I'm sure they do lol)
Also limit it to say Dewbacks or dog types if possible. (Wolves and such)

This is why in SWG you have the ablility to mix and match your professions to suit your playing style. There is already a profession that gives you this, Creature Handler. This is not a dig, but i really don't see why Rangers should be given a pet just because they have pets in other mmorpg's. SWG is designed with the flexability to suit your playing style that gives (in theory anyway) no one class the potential to do it all.
Sorry ![]()
But.. =( ...I wanna have a pet eagle or dog.. -sniff-
Oh well. Anyhow.. Challenge level 15 isnt a whole lot.. that's like a 1k-2k HAM pet.. =P Novice CH I tamed a 6.5k pet..friend tamed a 9k pet..
Go check CH nerfs on Test Centerthat are to balance the game, your friend won't be having his pet at 9k HAM for long

Hate to tell you, but CH cant get great pets til Taming IV/Master after big patch. I dont have the points to get all that excess without dropping my 3 masteries.
Thats exactly what my reasoning implies and the way SWG is designed. You're not meant to have it all and do it all. If you want pets then go CH, give up your ablility to be Master in another profession, afterall who said you have to master things in this game ? ![]()
What you want is infringing on another profession, which is wrong.
As a Master CH and a Master Ranger I would say no way. Why should you get to dabble in a profession I invested an additional 63 pts in? Thats like saying CHs should be allowed to train their cat like pets to track prey for them. You have to remember that a CH is exclusively devoted to the very words "having pets".
If you want a pet, Ill sell you a nuna once they make it possible for us to transfer low level pets to non CH. ![]()

...and right on here. It's not like you guys are Droid Engineers. The CH profession sitting right there in front of your face as a Ranger. All it cost you is6 pts plus how many you wish to devote to it to get stronger pets.
Were not talking major skill point cost here to reach Novice CH... 6 pts.
I have to agree with Segolas. If you want pets, invest your xp in CH training. Otherwise, we should be subject to the same pet restrictions as all other non-CH's (i.e. one pet < CL15).
