Thread: A Simple Poll on the Million Monkeys Idea

Ok, a week or two ago I posted an idea that might help us get improved harvesting rates quickly. Have a look at the latest version of the thread here. The general idea is that we ask the crafters for help. According to Calc, the proposal was looked at favorably by the profession correspondents of multiple professions. The idea seems to have fallen into a state of limbo. As such, I would like to get the community's opinion on this matter.

How do you feel about it?

  • A:The idea as it has no chance in working and will only make us look foolish.

  • B: The idea is a good one but the proposal needs a bit of work before we send it out.

  • C: The idea is a good one and the proposal is good enough. Send it out ASAP.

Please do look at the thread before replying (especially if you want to choose A). Given the wording of the proposal, I don't think that we will get many "fix us first" replies as it is only asking for very small and specific changes (up the harvesting mod effectiveness and potentially up the trapping mod effectiveness). The proposal also states that this is only a very minor fix and the profession will need a lot of help before it is really complete. The proposal is aimed at crafters so that they can see our problem and understand how fixing it might help them.

I'd say my vote regrettably is (a). I don't think that there is "no chance of it working" but I do think that we're going to look foolish doing it. I really wouldn't look favorably on another profession coming into this forum whining about their profession and trying to get my support to fix it, so I would show them the same courtesy.

After having spentsome timeon the Correspondent forum, I have to say that I am not sure this will work. We can certainly try it, but the devs tend to frown upon "broken record syndrome." Delta was kind enough to point it out to me over there. The thing that seems to work best for getting attention is a clear concise reason for why we should get this. I say a better approach would be to post to the Harvesting Focus thread. That is what TH will look at when he needs info from us. Delta, would you advise them the same way (sorry to put you on the spot) or am I completely off base? That being said, I will go with wahtever the Ranger membership decides.

I should also mention that is we proceed with it, the proposal is worded fine the way it is.

Ah, that's fine. It just seemed to die off for no apparent reason so I thought I'd bring it up again. The main reason I wanted to do this was to bring the Devs attention to it. I'm sure they realize the problem exists. I just wasn't sure why they wouldn't bother to do anything about it. As far as time goes, this is a quite minor change. And it would end up helping a lot more people than just Rangers. I just don't like the idea of idly sitting by while the Devs decide what is important. This would show the Devs that it's not just Rangers that think this is important. But I just wanted to see what people thought.

Calc,

I think the last thread you put up about the harvesting rates was well received.

I don't think anyone disagrees that getting our harvests increased is a good thing, but the only issue now is trying to get it attention from the Devs. I don't know how tough the change should be, but honestly it probably shouldn't be that hard, as we were able to get the harvesting pseudonerf reversed in less than 4 days back in September.

Option C. I think we can end up getting support, I *don't* think we'll look silly doing it, and I do think the devs are underestimating the importance of this issue. If the other professions support this idea, maybe the Devs will get it done. It's not whining.. It's campaigning. It'salso far less likely to crash a server than the last big move to get a change made...

Honestly I would have to go with C. It is worded perfectly, but...I really don't think it will do a lick of good. Afterhaving thought about it, and remember this is just my humble opinion, I think it makes us look like we are a bit needy. Like we have to get the other professions to help us to be able to get anything for our profession. We deserve better than that. We shouldn't have to practically beg to get some attention. We have all racked our brains and come up with great ideas for this profession only to have them be ignored over and over again. To ask others to help us, while it seems to be the right choice, I think will only hurt us. I don't want to just get some handout from the devs. If they decided to give us the harvesting and trapping upgrades, then I probably wouldn't complain, but I don't wanna have to beg to get it. We have shown time after time that we are probably the most mature and well respected community around. Why we continually get the shaft is beyond me. I have not asked for a detailed outline of what the devs plan to do to rangers to better them. I merely want some F'N recognition. WE DO EXIST AND WE DESERVE TO BE TREATED WITH SOME DAMN RESPECT!

Now I'm sorry for going off and ranting there. I'm just......a little frustrated with the lack of communication. Anyway, I'll go with "C". If it helps the rangers in any way, I'm for it. I just don't wanna have to keep begging for attention.

Just finished reading through the previous 2 threads of this million monkey thing

All things considered I think the proposal thing is a "C"

personally I think that if the crafting comunities back us on the harvesting thing then that in it's self is reason enough for the dev's to pay attention to it, I mean come onhere if the whole organic resource using comunity recognises the problem thenhow can the dev's ignore the issue when everyone effected is pointing at the same problem ?

I think this is a very intelligent and mature way to go about making this issue noticed .. 1000 times better than the usual manner in which things get changed (ie people bombard a professions board with "you should be nerfed" posts)

So, 1 "A" and3 "C"'s (and was that meant to be a "B", Brisc/Delta, or just you signing off). We could really use some more opinions as 4 people is really not a good sample (I'd vote "C" but I'm not counting myself here). While asking us why we should get the fix is a step in the right direction it is probably more busy work than anything. Having 11 forums asking for a fix means that it will be that much more likely to take priority than if we go at it alone. While some people might see this as begging, I prefer to think of it more like asking a guild doctor for a buff. They don't have to do it andthey might not get much out of it but it doesn't hurt them and you might be nice and supply them with a bit of avian meat in exchange.
