There are two sections to this Document. Ranger for the Non-Ranger is designed to help Non Rangers understand the limitations and benefits of the Ranger skills that are most often sought. Ranger for the Non-Master is designed to answer some of the more frequently asked (i.e. pesky) "newbie" questions including macros / grinding / and "fast xp." For Survival Macro Information please check the Survival XP section at the end of this document, I promise all your answers are there!

NOTE: if it is not listed here, then the option doesn't exist in a known legal form. Any existing exploits which give "fast xp" will not be recognized in this posting and will eventually lead to the banning of any player using them. If you want "cheats," go somewhere else!

Ranger for the Non-Ranger

Tips on Hiring aRanger

These are universal tips for hiring a Ranger. Whether you're looking to collect Resources or track various spawns the two suggestions below are the best options for contacting and hiring Rangers. YOU SHOULD NOT BE POSTING REQUESTS TO RANGERS CONCERNING HUNTING OR TRACKING IN THE RANGER FORUM! If you do I cannot protect you.

The Ranger For Hire By Galaxy / Specialty List CLICKY: In the event that you cannot find what you're looking for stop by this very helpful post which lists many of the Rangers on each server who actively take contracts or fill requests for hide. In the event that no one responds to a Galaxy Trade Post this is the next best option. Players are listed by their in game names (unless otherwise noted), and have already expressed some interest in harvesting on a contractual basis.

Galaxy Trade Forums CLICKY: Many Rangers regularly check these boards to keep up on current offers for existing Resources. If you are looking for Meat, Bone, or Hide simply stop by your local Galaxy Trade Forum and post a request. You can offer contract jobs or even all out harvesting sprees. This is the best place to start!

Looking to hire a Ranger for Tracking?

Before hiring a ranger to track you must understand the limitations of tracking! Over the course of the Ranger Profession players are granted different levels of tracking skill. The tracking skill provides a Ranger the ability to see any creature, player or NPC within a 500m radius of their current location. This skill will only show CURRENTLY SPAWNED entities. There are and will be occasions where a ranger does not find things on /Areatrack, walks 200m, and the entity being searched for spawns. This is not the Ranger's fault, it is a result of game mechanics.

The Hero of Tatooine: Currently all the Spawns for the Hero of Tatooine Quest can be found on /areatrack. Many Rangers are versed in the tracking of these spawns. In order to hire a Ranger to aid in this skill please refer to the suggestions above.

TheKnight Trials: Tracking for the Knight trials is an inexact science. Some Rangers Specialize in this and are familiar with the right places to hunt each of the required entities. Again, refer to the section on properly hiring a Ranger for suggestions.

Bounty Hunter Marks: Just buy the droids. You'll save a ton of time and money this way.

The Old Man: Rangers cannot track the old man. You're entry into the Aurillan Village is totally up to the system. If the old man approaches you, you will automatically enter into a dialogue with him. Though he appears on /areatrack (at last test) you cannot force his spawn, or find his spawn, by areatracking him.

Village Quests: Currently Rangers can track most of the Sith related NPCs for the village. For Suggestions please read the section on poperly hiring a Ranger.

This concludes the Ranger for Non-Ranger portion of the Forum FAQ

Ranger for the Non-Master

Ranger for Beginners

The Great Ranger Meet: Born ages ago from the mind of the great Rangers before us, the Great Ranger Meet is a Profession based - Cross Server - Cross Faction event in existence. About once a month or so Rangers from every server meet at a pre-designated location on a pre-designated server to hunt as a group. All are welcome, especially those who are not used to the profession and wish to gain some insight from long time professionals.

Ranger Templates: Pros / Cons CLICKY: A very insightful post by Owen Lars which breaks down various Ranger inclusive templates. These are mostly geared towards Master Ranger & Combat pairings and provide incredible insight to templates with "Master" inclusive builds.

Ranger XP for Grinders

Scouting XP: This is real simple, scouting xp is gained by harvesting or by masking scent. The Fastest way to gain scouting xp is to head to an adventure planet (Endor, Dantooine, Dathomir, Lok), maskscent, and run. If you're grinding weapons xp simply harvest the creatures you kill.

Survival XP: Survival XP is gained by either sitting in a camp, or crafting one. There is no existing macro for AFKSurvival XP. Crafting macros do exist currently and can be found on the Artisan boards. In the very near future, however, these macros will be shut down by the SOE. The twobest ways to gain fast XPare to place a camp and get multiple players to visit it or to craft camps while camping. It's not the "fast xp" that other professions can boast, but its the only way to do it.

Trapping XP: Craft traps and throw them at big game. Stack traps when possible. The best way to do this is to go to an adventure planet find a creature, hit it with an adhesive mesh and then throw one of every other trap you can think of.

/Areatrack

Hero of Tatooine: The Hero of Tatooine Guide shows a great number of clues to figuring out where to find each spawn. ALL HERO OF TATOOINE SPAWNS CAN BE FOUND USING /AREATRACK. These are some general rules that Rangers might adhere to while tracking these spawns:

  1. The Mark of Courage: Seems to spawn most often around the startpoint for the PodRace track. I recommend starting at 2414, 4763 and areatracking at around a 200m radius from that point.

  2. The Mark of Intellect: The easiest to find of all the spawns, using the Hero of Tatooine guide just follow each of the marked waypoints in order. To guarantee faster finds split the waypoints within a group.

  3. The Mark of Honor: This spawn is most consistent first thing in the morning. Head to the Ranch (5000- 4700) and start areatracking in a 200m radius expanding out slowly. The pirates spawn in the valley south of the ranch most frequently. It is very helpful to do this as close to server up as possible (9am EST usually). Later in the day try walking a path fromt he ranch to Anchorhead doing an occasional areatrack.

  4. The Mark of Altruism: Again, this spawn is most consistent first thing in the morning. Begin at the Jabba Cave (5160, 614) and begin tracking in a 200m radius. Later in the day the frequency of the span seems to drop. The Moisture Farmers name might change in between areatracking him and locating him. This is completely normal.

Creatures: Knowing where to look is as important as what to look for. Check out SWGcreatures.com for more information on locations and types of resources.

Limitations: You cannot "/areatrack krayt" areatrack will only give you the direction and distance of any current spawn within a 500m radius of your current position. If the creature hasn't spawned yet it won't appear on areatrack. If the creature shouldn't be there it won't appear on areatrack.

Survival XP:

THERE IS NO MACRO AVAILABLE TO AFK GRIND SURVIVAL XP! DO NOT ASK FOR SURVIVAL MACROS THEY DO NOT EXIST.

There are no macro commands for disbanding a camp

There are no macro commands for setting up a camp

Sorry for the ruse, but it was the only way to guarantee that everyone read this post before posting the question. Though there are crafting macros (available in the Artisan forums) even these will soon be removed from the system entirely. If you want to grind Survival XP check the section under titled "Ranger XP for Grinders"

If the answers you are seeking are not outlined here please feel free to post a question to the Ranger Community

This, of course, is only the first version. Please leave any input on what I can add.

Looks good, but I have a couple comments...

1. Should you point people towards the Ranger for Hire thread THEN towards the trad forums? I am ok either way, but we should probably promote ourselves and our peeps first.

2. The Dancer's had thier gatherings first and are on Number 11 (though I didn't know about them before we had our first one).

3. I will be using your info the Hero of Tat spawns for my own purposes to get my badges...yay!

I'm gonna collect as many corrections as I can before I make any changes. Editting it requires re-adding the HTML links. Thanks for the input though. I wanted to do a seperate guide for /areatracking the hero ring but it's mostly covered here.

If you go into the Preferences tab of the My Profile page, you can turn off (uncheck) the WYSIWYG style of editing (basically automatically sets you the HTML editor)...this takes some getting used to, but it preserves links . But, feel free to edit it however you like .

Hey thanks for the bump.

If there are no further suggestions I'll edit this badboy tomorrow sometime (making my first trip to the DWB tonight.)

Probably fix some formatting issues and hit up Calc's points plus whatever comes in between now and then.

I've read the entire document top to bottom extremely thoroughly and feel completely versed in the Ranger profession at this point in time. It is very detailed and informative. You've obviously put much time and effort into this post, so a big thank-you from one who is very grateful. However, I do have one question that I believe no one has asked: Are there macros for creating and disbanding camps?

Just kidding

Feel really petty pointing htis out, but there's a couple of spawns became spans up there...

That very, very minor point aside

/applaude!!

Splendid bit of work!

Only one comment - I don't think the crafting macros themselves will be nerfed, just the recursive side of it.

What that says to me is that I would create a macro running through my 5 crafting tools about 5 times, then have to run that macro again when it finishes - so one more mousclick every 25 crafting sessions ......

From what I read, the macro changes were to stop AFK activities - and it wasn't even made clear whether recursive macros would be nerfed or not, although I think that would be probable.
