Thread: Oh sure.. after N'Raas finishes the list I come up with a harvest idea
I was out doing my sampling of all the various resources when I had a thought.. what if we had the ability to sample resources from the creatures we kill? One sample of each organic on the mob so we can check out the stats before committing to one resource. As you move up the ladder, you get more of each type of organic to sample until at Master you can sample every type and have the ability to know each resource on the planet in a shorter period of time. Plus you'll be less likely to waste because you won't take what you don't want.
Also for each sample you take it can report one of the following
1. You could not collect a sample because the creature was too skinny.
2. You collect a small sample because the creature was of medium size
3. You collect an excellent sample because the creature was fat and healthy.
These can be changed to small for skinny, medium for medium, excellent for fat if preferred.
The sample type can be earned at each level.
level 1 - Leathery Hide, Avian Bone, Avian Meat
Level 2 - Scaley Hide, Insect Meat
Level 3 - Bristly hide, Carnivore meat, Animal bone
Level 4 - Reptilian meat, Wild Meat, Domesticated Meat
Master Ranger - Wooley Hide, Herbivore Meat
Any good?
Oh.. I don't think I was clear on this point. When you sample a creature, you get a sample for every possible organics it carries, so either 1, 2, or 3 at the same time. Might have to rework the text so that if you kill and sample a Bantha you get the following lines of text
1. You collect an excellent sample of Wooley Hide because the creature was fat and healthy
2. You collect an excellent sample of Animal bone because the creature was fat and healthy
3. You could not collect a sample of Herbivore Meat because the creature was too skinny.
im not sure i follow exactly otherwise
I belive what he means is a Scout equivalant of the artisns "/Survey" Skill Not the artisans "/Sample" Skill.
id LOVE to be able to SURVEY for what types(names) or organics are available(meat//bone/hide/flora) using an ability or a flora tool
i think i get what he/she is talkign about.
What it means, and correct me if im wrong, is that when you "sample" the animal it will only harvest 3 units (bone, meat, hide) and will still able you to harvest it after you have "examined" the samples.
The sample that you took would be able to tell you each attribute to the sample. i,.e meat will show you OQ, PE, DR, flavor etc..
This would work, and save sometime by the fact you could kill one creature and sample it, as compared to having to kill 3 of the samecreatures, with the samplesyou would get one of each type of resource you can harvest it, then decide which one you want and harvest away.
I would actually prefer this to the idea of being able to harvest everything. It would work well and wouldnt flood the market with resources.
kudos for the idea
Japh,
Is there really anything wrong with the way harvesting is now? I mean - we got them to do what we wanted. Do we really need any more changes to it?

hehe.. Was I that unclear? Maybe not everyone does what I do when starting to harvest on a new planet. When I arrive on a planet I go through all of our organics, searching out creatures until I find out what the stats are on EVERY type meat, bone and hide and then based off my findings, I decide what I'm going to hunt for. If Insect meat has some very high numbers, than that's what I'm after.
My thought was that I have to kill at least 13 different animals in order to know what each resource looks like. At least 13, because there's often two different types of Herb meat going on. If I could kill one rasp that carries both Avian bone and Avian meat, and pull up the radial menu and hit Sample Organics, I would get one bone unit and one meat unit to look at before deciding which to harvest. Or I could find a Bantha and get one sample each of Wooley hide, Herb meat, and Animal bone without having to kill 3 banthas to figure out which one I want.
I guess to a player like myself who lives to harvest, this would be very useful. Plus if I get the message of skinny, medium, or fat that would be bonus information to get an idea of how much to expect off a particular mob. That would be an alternative to having that information in the /examine window if that's not possible.
I hate this stupid, stupid star system. All I did was throw out a suggestion that came out of my playing time that I thought MIGHT be beneficial, without a drastic change in the harvest skills (unlike harvest traps, or multiple full harvests from one creature as have been suggested byother rangers). And for that, I deserve one star?? It's bad enough I get every one of my posts in one particular thread hit with 1 stars by another Ranger who just assumed I tagged him with one star because I disagreed with him, but for an idea?. How rude!!
"I hate this stupid, stupid star system."
I do too.
Every "one star" postI find, I rate 5 to compensate.
Everyone has the right to an opinion... ![]()
Thanks N'Raas! ![]()
I hope I wasa little more clear this time. And I do mean you have to kill the animal in order to get samples. But imagine if upon killing a Krayt Dragon, you can sample each of it's resoures prior to collecting. That would be great!
Tookra had a pretty good understanding of what I was suggesting. ![]()
The idea about being able to see the attributes on all the available resources on a creature before harvesting has been floating around for awhile.
Mostly the suggesting were regarding add the information to the /examine window.
Your idea however makes more sense, than being able to innately know the quality...
Perhaps rather than receiving any physical resources, you simply get the /examine window for the resource you "sample".
That way you wouldn't be getting any additional resources (or subtracting them from the corpse's total).
It would still provide you the same data, and you could perform the sample multiple times for each resource on the creature.
How's this work with everyone?
That's a great idea! I really got the idea of a single sample unit from when I harvested a skinny animal and told myself that at least I know now what the new harvest for this item will be tomorrow.
But a seperate examine type window would do just the same, without getting the actual single resource unit.
That's fine by me if they can work it like that. If they can't for some reason, then the one sample of each would be the next alternative unless something better is thought of.

Excellent. I will write something up and add it to the State of the Profession. ![]()
