I don't think this is right. If you plan to have all 10 camo kits available at any time you will still need a minimum of 4 types of resources for each planet and it will more likely be 5-6 so that's 60 inventory spaces for just the resources. If I want to have say 5 camo kits premade for any planet, that's another 50. I shouldn't have tobuy a house just to store camo kits and materials. No other profession has that limitation.

Imagine an armorsmith using Lokian leathery hide to make padded (I think). Then imagine that armor not working on Endor. It is not just the resource costs that make this bad, it is the number of resources. There is also no reason that the costs should be so prohibitive.

Good list, does a domesticated gurk not give domesticated meat?

From what I have heard. The gurk provides Herbivore meat in all its incarnations.

Interesting analogy...

One of the concepts behind requiring planet specific resources is thatcamoflaugeis supposed to blend in with the native surroundings.

An Armorsmith is not making his equipment to blend, but instead be strong and durable.

Relaxing the restrictions to only requiring planet specific resources sounds like a reasonable compromise.

Good stuff NRaas..

Just a question though.. Am I shooting too high to think these camo kits should work on NPCs and PCs too? I mean, as a Master Ranger, camo kit applied, laying dead still in a prone position, is it wishful thinking to be undetected by anyone?

I mean, if these things hide you from beasts who use scent as a focal point for finding you, you should be able to hide from fairly stupid Stormstroopers and Rebel Guerillas alike. I know the issues something like this could present to the devs, especially with the TEF situation being what it is, but I think it should be feasible.

Of course, once the Ranger moves or attacks, the jig is up. Does anyone else share this vision for camo kits?

Actually they are supposed to work on humanoids... Just not Players.

Most Rangers would like /conceal to work more effectively in their current incarnation.

Once those issues are resolved, we can push for that nebulous next level.

"Of course, once the Ranger moves or attacks, the jig is up. Does anyone else share this vision for camo kits?"

You'll find that very suggestion in the State of the Profession list.

Good stuff. I love the concept of conceal and was excited to hear about it. But in reality, it has been a big disapointment so far in it's effectiveness.

Hopefully this will help the devs build a better conceal for us.

As to answer the dom gurk question no it does not give you dom meat. I have tried it and only get reg meat. I have found only 2 mobs on 2 different planets that give dom meat. That is mamien on Yavin and Savage Hummbaa on Naboo. When you examine creature it will say dom meat is a reasource. Mamiens are easy to find on Yavin but Savage Humbaa are pretty rare and usually one static spawn. So I can only imagine the mob for Lok is prob rare and someone is holding on to that info very tightly :

Sound pretty good to me. Except for the cost and guille suit.

I don't think the specific meat and hides is an issue. That is something rangers can get themselves, and it shows a good challenge for an advanced profession to have to find it. A ranger is something that should not have much difficulty doing so.

The only problem with cost I have is the flora. Just make that any kind of flora, and or make it something /forage can pick up. Just MHO.

Wood is wood, scaley hide is scaley hide. I'm not sure why talusian water is soimportant for doctors, but at least the items made with it work everywhere besides just Talus. The resources themselves are not specific to planets, just the planet it is currently available on so in a very real sense, there are no planet specific resources.

Perhaps the reason resources on one planet are stronger and more durable than on another is not the resource but something inherent about the planet, which should then affect the armor on Endor made from Lokian hide. If not, then as I say in the above post, there are no planet specific resources and any camo kit should work anywhere. Every planet has multiple environments so why would wood help camoflogue me in the plains?

This isn't to say that I don't understand the basic concept, but it is clear that the devs never thought it through. It isn't so much the specificity of the items but the vast number of inventory slots you will need to keep in inventory in order to have camo kits on demand for any planet. Even if camo kits worked and even if they used generic resources (lokian hide lokian bone lokian meat lokian flora) they are a bookkeeper's nightmare that onlyRangers would have to deal with and I simply wouldn't bother with them.

Basically, the system is just not workable and not well thought out in my view. All it does is allow me to get through NPCs, most of whom are dumber than creatures. And it should not be required to get through creatures better. If this is really supposed to be a boon for rangers then my days as a ranger are surely numbered because I didn't sign up to be a field accountant.

No other profession has that limitation?

Try making GOOD stims....

And we don't even need quality ingredients, any ingredients will do.

After reviewing the Top 5 Debate thread, the top issue appears to be the the /conceal.

I was asked on the Coorespondent Forum to highlight the top issue...

Here is the body that I have posted, for your viewing pleasure.

I have been asked to keep developer comments confidential unless given permission to publicize them.

The other four issues are still up for debate for next day or two, so keep posting.

----

Top Issue: The effectiveness of Camoflauge kits is not worth the cost required to produce them

Additional Detail:

Effectiveness issues:

  • Issue with aggressive creatures attacking beyond their normal aggression radius when they break /conceal. /conceal can still break, but the creature should not attack if you are outside their normal ferocity range.
  • Issue with creatures warping to your location when they break your camoflauge.
  • Issue regarding social assist animals ignoring /conceal and finding your location immediately, once you attack one of their brethren.
  • The duration of the camoflauge has been noted to be less than the 25 minutes defined in the Coorespondent report

Costs Issues:

  • Several of the resources required by camoflauge kits are so rare, that no Ranger has yet to find them (Lok domesticated meat for instance).

Proposed Soultion (sic):

Effectiveness:

  • By the description given in the Coorespondent Responses it was expected that conceal would rarely break, that has not been the result that the Rangers have seen.
  • Request to have only creatures/humanoids that would normally attack you attempt to break your camoflauge.
  • Request to reduce the likelyhood of camoflauge break causing a creature to attack you
  • The concept of a Ghillie suit was suggested. Combine a Camoflauge kit with a Tailor made overcoat to produce a longer lasting camoflauge device. It would need to be worn to use, and each check could decrease the Condition of the outfit as a limiting method.

Cost:

  • Request to remove the specific resource types from the camoflauge kits. Most Rangers feel that having the resources Planet Specific is sufficient (ie: needing any Dantooine Meat rather than Datonooine Herbivore Meat)
