Thread: Reason why there the bazaar is flooded with Hide/Bone/Meat

I was responding to someones post, when I came to realization why harvesting Hides/Bone/Meat sucks.

Basic Problems
It takes a long time to colllect (I'm BioSci 3) Hides/Bones/Meat in decent enough stacks to sell. The difficulty of the mob doesn't affect the quality of resources. When you go to the bazaar, the market is flooded with the stuff, so you can't seem to sell it at a decent price (atleast compared to the time it took you to get it).

Real Problem
The reason why the market is flooded with cheap hide/bone/meat, is cause of 2 professions. Bounty Hunter (BH) and Creature Handler (CH). It is well known, that these 2 are currently one of the most "uber" professions around. Therefore, a lot of people are flocking to those professions. The problem? Both of those professions, will require the player to get Explore 4 and Hunting 4 in the scout tree. Both of those lines require scouting xp. The only decent way to get scouting xp, is to harvest your butt off.

The result, is that you have all these future BHs and CHs, harvesting like crazy for expierence, and then dumping the resources. That is why the Hide/Bone/Meat market sucks.

Solution
Nerf the scouts to harvest less, and give rangers better quality stuff. There have been numerous posts on these topics, so I won't go into the details.

Basically, I read this board alot, and I think everyone notices that the when they go to the bazaar, there are loads of Hide/Bone/Meat. Maybe even too much, but I don't think anyone can point to the reason why that is the case. I think I figured it out. I apologize if this has been brought up before, but I have never seen it. Just thought I'd bring it up, see what all you guys think.

i'll bump this once, cause i posted it at peak playing times, and now, it is peak reading times, where people are on the boards instead of working.

agreed, only rangers should be able to harvest the uber hide/bone/meat, making their demand by armorsmiths etc higher and setting them apart from all the novice scouts (read: everyone on the server practically).

Or make it part of a different skill tree so that the BH and CH are not on that track. Better quality harvest works also though and would be at least a way to seperate us from the masses.

On a unrelated note, I would agree with you that CH is uber if you had written this before yesterday mornings patch.

On a related note, I agree with your ideas though I have no problem selling hide. I typically hunt on upper level planets though, where hide and bone comes in 50+ batchs per a kill. Then I turn around and break it into 1500 piles and sell it for 3k a pop on the bazaar. They always sell within 5-10 minutes of being put up. Only thing is I don't need scouting xp anymore since I have mastered all of those lines so as the Master Architects are all saying to me, "I don't need to grind anymore so Im not taking orders anymore".

I run macros for this. You can harvest on the run without stopping. So it is very fast.

/harvest bone
/harvest meat
/harvest hide

are the 3 macros I use.

CH's may no longer be "uber" but they will still be played. You also have Squad Leaders and Bio-Engineers that need to get though the scouting tree. There are alot of professions that "need" scouting XP.

In general, Rangers are not "special" other then being better scouts. This is just one aspect of being nothing special.

I sell some hides, but mostly i trade up with medics. you can really get on a medics good side by giving them 2k meat/hide/bone in exchange for free heals.

I think these are all valid points and I agree that Rangers should be able to harvest better quality stuff than regular scouts. I also think part of the problem with the market dropping on Hides and Bones is that they are not needed as much. In the beginning Armorsmiths needed it to make their bone armor. Now that they are past that stage they no longer need as much if any. The demand just isnt there for the product anymore. Hell as Rangers we dont even need bone and hide to make camps anymore once you reach Frontiering LVL 2. I think another solution would be to put the demand back. The best place to do this would be the bio engineers. Right now they only need meat to make their animals. They should have to incorperate bone and hide into that mix as well. If they dont they should get out a big lumpy mess.

Love that!

There could be a penalty on quaility that decreased as you went up those lines in scout and ranger.

Unfortunately, I don't think it would be that easy to code. You would in effect be storing 8-10 (or More) values for each present stat that you wanted to effect.

Actauly. Armours always need Bone and Hides. They just wont buy the "crap" that mostly shows up. Except if they are practice grinding. The big thing now, is high qaulity Insect and Avaian Meat for Combat Medics.

Drez nice piece of investigating ....

I have an idea that will add to this . I don't think it's any one thing , but I do think the ONE thing you mentioned plays a big part .

Another HUGE part was a bit simpler . All these people and their grandmothers running around with three Rancors tearing through every thing on the planet .... they got nothing to do with the corpses after they got their CH experience .... why not pick up novice scout and harvest / hide hundreds and thousands of resources and try to sell them ?

Now that they have nuked CH into near oblivion I think that we will see a decrease in all the trash resources on the bazaar and we can finally get some money going .

Now , if they would disallow harvesting of red con MOBs for the novice scout and actually give us a USEFUL improvement with our harvesting boxes in Ranger ... then we would really be in business

I would be nice if as a ranger we not only harvest more, but better quality stuff... only issue is I don't believe they were planning on this... anyone that harvests hide from say a gnort on the same day will get the same type of hide with the same attributes.

Kinda lame if you ask me. A newbie scout's pelt should look like e bloody mess while a seasoned Ranger's pelt should look rather clean and nice!!
