After further consideration, more playtesting and input from you guys it looks like it will actually be better to have rangers use Battle Armor with the revamp. In addition to that, we've been testing the Ranger out with general ranged / melee combat mods (Ranged Accuracy, Ranged Defense, Speed and Melee Defense) and it looks promising. We'll keep you posted.for all of your comments.

And I for one am glad. Never liked the recon armor. Need to go find an uber set of bone armor now! Woot!

Not to mention combat mods.. finally!

Would it be too much to ask for small natural poison/disease resists? After all Rangers are hardier in nature..heh. Well, that might have fit better for the old idea of Ranger but at present I dont think it meshes..

Yeah, but it looks like all ranged mods for now, which I guess is good for ranged users, but I'm a Fencer.

Oh well, I'll have to adapt, I guess.

I don't think that's necessarily what he meant. I will ask for clarification.

Please keep us posted, I would LOVE if rangers got recon, it does make more sense and fit in better.

Sorry...I was referring to the mods, not the armor. I think he was pretty clear about the Battle Armor staying, but was more bague when commenting on the combat mods we might get.

Battle Armor gives us the best of all worlds while at the same time not giving us the BEST armor of each world.

Its about flexibility. Battle armor gives us that ability to hunt critters and take some damage.

Recon armor would be a joke if I was hunting a Krayt.

I too was looking forward to getting another set of armor options. I think the energy defense would fit will for the new ranger. But I also think that Carbineer is going to be the weapon of choice.

I keep seeing people say this, but explain how it would be better. I get the fact that the name recon sounds better, but Battle armor is more adaptable. Recon is totally useless for doing that. If you're doing recon on a remote base, you have to get past animals and NPCs. You'd want an armor that could protect against both equally well. That's battle armor.

Honestly, except for the name, what actually statistic about Recon armor make you think that it better fits our role. I've asked like 5 people now and nobody has given me an answer. What's the facination with Recon outside the name?

This is horrible! I return to find my new title on the forum is "Jedi". What's up with that? If they wanted to confer that I'm rare and learned, they'd make my title RANGER. and then make it camo colored.

For me this answer is simple: Imperial Scout Trooper Armor. I took pistoleer just so that I could wear it because I enjoy roleplaying it as the forward recon guys for the emperor. Arguably the best representation of what a ranger does that was actually pictured in the movies themselves. Also Im not sure why everyone says that armor is not adaptable... Im quite certain that all armor can be made to do what you want, I know at least that Ive seen assault with equal resists.

That's great news, as recon armor is pretty weak on the kinetic side of things.

Battle armor has nice resists for energy and kinetic, definetly a more rounded role fulfilled by this.

This is why its not adaptable.

Recon armor Caps the Energy resist at 8200, which in turn lowers theKinetic to 3700ish.

Assault armor caps the Kinetic resist at 8200, which in turn lowers the energy resist cap to roughly 3700

Now reversing the layers so instead of capatalising on the +1000 free energy resist of Recon armor (should be renamed to Energy resistant armor) means the max kinetic becomes roughly 6200 if you cap the resist for Kinetic.

But then that lowers the resist for Energy from 7000 down to a max cap of 5780ish.

So by sticking to "battle" armor and buying an unlayered suit you can get Capped at 6000 Kinetic 6000 Energy 6000 Special or,

Quad primus for 6500ish Kinetic\Energy, 5490ish special

Quad layered Kinetic over 7000kinetic around 4800-5000ish Energy

Quad Energy Layered over 7000 Energy around 4800-5000ish Energy

So if you just buy unlayered capped Battle armor or Quad Layered Primus you are getting an equal if not better suit than can be made in Kinetic layeredEnergy damge resistant armor or Energy layered Kinetic resistant armor.

Recon, battle and assault armor are terrible names for what the armor really does game wise.

I'm quite certain you are wrong. The highest energy protection comes from quad energy layered recon. The highest a battle armor can come is ~1000 lower than the cap for recon. The highest assault armor can come is ~3000 lower than the cap for recon. The highest kinetic resits comes from quad kinetic layered assualt. Again, recon can come within ~1000 of the cap, but recon is ~3000 from the cap. Thus, Battle armor is superior in terms of adapatability. Recon will always be better suited for energy (throwing in quad kinetic kills the energy resits) and assault will always be best suited for kinetic (throwing in energy layers makes them both low)

I can have a 7000+ energy and kinetic resist battle suit, I'm 99% sure you'll never see either recon or assault come close for both.

Just a point to ponder. All damage mitigation caps at 60%. That is including the use of a PSG with Energy resistant armor capped at 8200.

To get a 50% damage mitgiation you want a resist of 6300 and above on your armor. After that point its a game of deminishing returns.
