Seeing as how Ranger is now considered a combat profession it would be good to see some weapon certifications given to them. Any thoughts?

Several weapons that were class exclusive are now based only on CL and available to everyone. (ex: Intimidator Pistol)

I would love to see the bow/hunting knife/hunting rifle ideas implemented.

Ranger isn't a combat profession...we just get an increase to Combat level (no, this really doesn't mean we are combatants, it just makes it so we are less gimped while hunting).

We have traps, and in general (lately), people would like to see traps become our main offense and defense, and I think this is the way to go.

I to like this idea, but unless they change traps, then id still prefer my rifle

Very good way of looking at it Calc. Personally I don't want to be a psuedo commando. I just want to be able to continue doing what I have done since becomming a Ranger.

Although an exclusivebow/knife/gun/hat would be nice as well, just for fun.

Should i plug the trap launcher idea again? Or is that my own personal dead horse?

Traps already fill that role, if you are a commando and throw grenades that is! the Trap damage was moved to grenades ages ago and now the grenades get states an DOTs. Plus unless traps work against everything, they are useless as offensive/deefensive weapons.

1. A new system will be brought in making weapons certed by level rather than proffession.

Weapon certs can now be tied to a combat level + a specific skill box + a specific race

So, all three of these scenarios could happen:

1. Weapon is certed to anyone with a combat level of at least X
2. Weapon is certed to anyone with a combat level of at least X AND have achieved Skill Box N
3. Weapon is certed to anyone with a combat level of at least X AND have achieved Skill Box N AND is of race K.
Most weapons currently fall into "1", some fall into "2" (mostly iconic and profression defining weapons) and very few (currently only bowcasters) fall into "3".

I'm moving this post from another thread since I think it makes more sense here.

What it means for us I think is that as a Master Ranger I will have a certain amount of levels and Iwill be able to use any of the level-certed weapons of that level, regarless of my combat skill boxes.

So depending on how they do it, and how good the level-cert weapons are, I may be able to pick up Novice Marksman and be able to use any of the marksman level-certed weapons of my MScout/MRanger level without actually needing to spend points in Carbineer, Pistoleer or Rifleman (though that being said, I probably would want to do so for the specials). I would then spend the rest of my points wherever I want - artisan maybe, or CH more probably for me /grin.

Man, was that ever a confusing paragraph!

Since we will possibly be able to use high-level weapons without spending the points does it make sense to ask for another, Ranger-specific, weapon? Maybe we should ask for a Ranger special attack instead? So we could use it with our level-certed weapons if we didnt want to spend skill points in a combat profession? That way we are not locking people into either a ranged or melee fighting style. AND we keep our ranger-flavoredweapon in our traps as was stated above.

This is all guess-work on my part, I do not know for sure this is how it is going to work.

What I would like to see:

Skills = what weapons you can use (Novice Swordsman = 2H curved sword, M swordsman = PH)

CL = How good yrou weapon truly is (M Swords / M Ranger > M Swords alone)

OR

CL = Level of weapon you can use (Novice Swords = decent 2H curved sword, M swords = Uber 2H curved Sword)

This second one would require WS to be able to make different levels of weapons (which may be in the CU>

I spoke to a dev on my first day on TC-5 (as it was called), he told me two things, one he swore me to secrecy about (that was the health bonus, but I did confide in Owen with that one, but it's publich knowledge now so I can say it), and the other was that they're at least considering us for weapon certs, but he didn't say what type.

So, wait and see, we might get an uncommonly pleasant surprise.

This is horrible! I return to find my new title on the forum is "Jedi". What's up with that? If they wanted to confer that I'm rare and learned, they'd make my title RANGER. and then make it camo colored.

Meh, the irony was that I couldn't tell anyone, Itold Owen for obvious reasons though. They knew they were going to do it, but they didn't even bother to tell the correspondent!
