Thread: The Ranger Code...Is there one?
Is there a "Ranger Code"?
I ask because I do not want to be the one not following it.
After reading many of the posts on this board, and talking with a few Rangers on my server, I feel that this profession has a sort ot brotherhood or kinship. I have not experienced this with other professions that Ihave played.
Any information would be greatly appreciated...

probally cause few professions are in our sad state. the gimped seem to stick together.
hehe well really i just try to always help a fellow ranger in anyway i can. not sure if we have a code per say.
This is a good idea... maybe we could get a few people together and come up with something? Maybe at the next Antarian Ranger guild meeting or something?
Spike what you may be noticing is not really a code , per se , but just the understanding that many of the Rangers that have been here for a while are more mature and level headed than some of the folks on the other forums . There is a mutual respect on these boards and an overall level of maturity that is missing on the other boards .
As far as in-game goes , I seem to instantly click with any other Rangers I meet in game . I also get lot's of /tells from people who do a /who search and see my title ( Wayfarer ) come up on the list . These people are looking for training and until recently there were so few of us around . So I would go out of my way to help these people and the times I have needed training I received the same curteousy . Not too mention there is always a lot to talk about with another Ranger , hunting strategies and so forth .
So that's about it , I wouldn't worry about breaking any unwritten rules for are class , there really aren't any . If your treating the other Rangers you meet with respect than that's all it's about .

There isn't in this game any in-game ranger code. Most people who like playing ranger types tend to be people who aren't just into slagging everything around them. They like community, but also like to be their own person, and to spend time soloing as well as helping groups from time to time. Whether you take the pioneer days and the type of scout/ranger/trapper/trailblazer type of person or the modern version of them in forestry and the military breed of scout/ranger you find they have always been highly respected, they don't mince words unnecessarily, they will help most people at just about any time, and they like times of soloing and being in nature. They are hard rustic survivalist, who understand their link to communities and culture but who are uncomfortable with being chained to society or specific communities all or even most of the time.
They help others constantly, because the day will come when you are out there in the middle of nowhere and will need help yourself, and more then likely have had that experience already. So not helping is just not a part of their unwritten code.
Because they are survivalist, excellent at trapping, setting traps both wilderness and military types, able to help track just about anything and how to sneak up and bag it or them without being noticed is there specialty that makes other parts of the world system need and want them. The provide raw materials and knowledge where those resources can be found. So they are highly useful to society in many ways, although they often think of us as lower on the social scale then they are because we don't want to play all the silly games that communities and society seek to place on others. They will abide by the rules so long as they see they make common sense and are generally helpful to others, but are ready to split if society becomes to strict, stifled and rigged such as under the Impires rule.
They more often then not don't take sides or at least not in any personal way, but if crossed all rangers tend to stick together and will help there fellow ranger if they have been harmed or double crossed.
It just sort of has always been that way, but nothing definitely written and none definitely written in this game.

I agree with Japhy on part of it. Generally, we are a somewhat rare class. That seems to lead to a sense of kinship, both when you meet another Ranger, and when you chat with others on the boards, knowing that they share the experiences you do, and that where they are, they are few as well.
From my own experiences, Rangers are, for the most part, a different breed than other players. They are sometimes loners, that have no problem being social or grouping, but groups can tend to hold them down in one place too long. They are fighters. They fight hard on their own, they fight hard in a group, for the group, and many will do whatever it takes to keep their teammates alive. They're inquisitive by nature, almost kender-like, even if they don't outwardly show it. They're explorers, wanderers. They love to see new places, to perhaps think they're the first, or one of the few, to see a particular sight. One day a Ranger may be in one place, and another, they might be far far away from there. They love a challenge. They have pride. Through good times and bad times, they always have pride within themselves for being a Ranger. They are generally more mature, more well thought out, and less apt to cut down another class to further themselves.
Some of these qualities you may find in players of all classes. But for us, it is very common. And that is what sets us apart, makes us almost special as a community.
I play a Ranger not because I want to be mighty, or uber, or leet.. I play because I want to. I choose to. I played a Ranger in EQ, back when that game was brand new. Bugs aside, and any ravings as well, when that game was new, it was a good game, and a good community. And Rangers were few. Most of the people who played them did so because they felt drawn to the class, they enjoyed it. That's how I felt.
SWG, like EQ, DAoC, and any other game, will always have it's flavor-of-the-month Rangers, and the ones who read a little too much Tolkien and Salvatore, and think that Rangers should be the end-all, be-all. And unfortunately, these are the voices you can hear the most in negativity. But for the most part, we are not like that. Lately our forum has filled up with more of these type of posts, but if you read almost any of the other profession boards you will see a level of whining, flaming, and cutting on each other that would shame us if we did it. Some good people on here, and it makes me proud, as always, to be a Ranger.

Although I do prefer to stay out of the grouping scene, I do go out of my way to help my fellow rangers. I've gone long distances to train up-and-comers (for free, no tips, please) and have even spent time sitting in camps even though, as a master ranger, I don't have to anymore.
I guess there is a certain mind-set for us rangers, so lets enjoy the camraderie before the big influx of L334 players hits our class.

Actually never a leave a man behind isa US Navy SEAL code, not the Rangers. 
But here is the US Army Ranger creed. Not a code per se but pretty darn close. By the way, the US Army Ranger motto is "Rangers Lead The Way!!"

Never shall I fail my comrades I will always keep myself mentally alert, physically strong, and morally straight and I will shoulder more than my share of the task whatever it may be, one hundred percent and then some.
Gallantly will I show the world that I am a specially selected and well trained soldier. My courtesy to superior officers, neatness of dress, and care of equipment shall set the example for others to follow.
Energetically will I meet the enemies of my country. I shall defeat them on the field of battle for I am better trained and will fight with all my might. Surrender is not a Ranger word. I will never leave a fallen comrade to fall into the hands of the enemy and under no circumstances will I ever embarrass my country.
Readily will I display the intestinal fortitude required to fight on to the Ranger objective and complete the mission, though I be the lone Survivor.

haha a "code"? haha.. screw dat i play this game for myself and nobody else.. ill shoot u in the back.. ill steal ur creds while ur asleep.. ill steal ur shoes while ur incapped... ill ninja harvest the most that i can.. ill kill ur pets... ill use the most absolute cheeseiest way to kill u.. and then your pets... i will take any and all shortcuts to reach my goal.... and foremost.. i will remeber that this is a game and i can and WILL do anything to assure that i continue to have a blast while playing because i did not pay 80bux and then 15 bux a month to follow some code that other ppl make up other then what the devs stated in teh release form!..
so there.. hows that code for u? hehe
