Thread: Ranger Skill Idea
Fellow Rangers:
Ran across the following thread and thought I would post it here for those who have not seen it. There seems to be some good ideas that might provide an answer to the ongoing creature-to-hit and Ranger special weapon/ability discussion which have going on. This would help both Ranged and Melee Rangers. It would also add to the benfits a group receives from having a Ranger along for both PvE and PvP. Many of our concerns seems answered. I invite you to take a look and comment.

Nhzuk - Gorath - Ranger (2/1/4/3) - Rifleman (1/0/3/2) - CH (3/3/0/2)
With my discussions with fellow rangers, Ive been saying this for awhile. When it comes to PVP, CH's should run in fear when they see us. I dont know about the "selling of the notes" thing but all-in-all we should be more affective against animals in general, and player pets specifically. OUR TRAPS SHOULD WORK AND PLAYER PETS!
But the idea of detecting a creatures weak points also gives us an extra advantage and use within GCW. Knowing that the weak points of the two Rancors and two Graul Maulers of the enemy and being able to tell this to our team will greatly increase the value of rangers in PVP. We are support to be a "support" profession but we are also a very important "COMBAT support" profession (like all healers). An addition such as this would greatly enhance our support ability within a combat situation.
In PvP, as soon as my recon skills - areatrack to find who we are looking for - are done, I do not in any way shape of form contribute to the group other than the fact I am an above average Pistoleer (2-2-4-2) and a decent Medic (1-0-4-1).
Being able to use traps on pets would knock the snot out of CHs in PvP. Who wants to unlease a squill when I can tell the group what to shoot at it, toss adhesive and pdarts at it, and make it way less effective? You listening Dithmir??
This would not make us uber, nor would it step on anyone's toes. Their pets can fight me in PvP, why can't I fight them??

tired of getting whacked on by stupid pets I can't trap to next Tuesday
This post is for Thunderheart and NRaas just in case ![]()
I have posted about it before, my idea may not even be original but as far as I'm concerned I'm the one that thought of it
Other people have liked it when I've posted about it. See if we can get this in the future!
Milk is a strangely absent item from SWG. Yet is used enough in cooking to be needed. Milk is so very highly prized and rare you have to wonder where it even comes from.
My proposal is give Rangers the ability to Milk Female Herbivores. Just have the option show up in the radial menu. You have a chance to fail, base it say on your forage skill that will determine failure and how much milk you get perhaps. Also make it so you have a chance of angering the creature you are milking. Since for some reason there are specifically named Female creatures, its almost like the Devs had it planned anyways ![]()
For the most part this would give the rangers a unique harvestable to sell, on top of providing a very Milk deprived galaxy with its calcium.
Yep, good idea! I've personally never seen even one unit of milk and I was in Beta 2 when it started! Basically, anything that helps to differentiate us from Scouts is a bonus as far as I'm concerned. For the amount of skill points Master Ranger takes up, it sure doesn't give me much benefit. Who knows though, maybe milk is one of the rare items we can forage but can't actually get because of the 'full inventory' bug.
Hurray! I hit Master Ranger this weekend. Thought I'd use this bit of news to bump my post ![]()
The high tech camps look awsome! I always seem to impress people with my Ranger camps, I guess it's because for some reason you don't see many Rangers on Corbantis.
Anyways I want to be able to run around Dantooine Milking Female Pikets! What do you say Thunderheart and NRaas? I bet the Chefs would love this!
Yep, great idea.
Another thing that pretty much anyone can do, but Rangers seem to be the ones that get around to it. Eggs are almost as covetted as milk is. You can get eggs from using the search from radial menu on lairs. So I either wander around a planet and search all lairs, or get mission after mission "of the same type of creature" and search for eggs. You don't even have to kill anything, using Mask Scent/Conceal you can avoid fighting and just search. It helps to get all the same creature types, so you end up getting all the same types of eggs. Otherwise you end up with a lot of different stacks, like other resources.

I am known quite well for my Egg collecting. I'm quite the explorer and I do alot of running around so I walk up to every nest I pass by and search it. I gather some pretty good stacks of eggs usually give them to guild members or throw them up on the bazaar. I've never not had them sell so people must use them
I just wish there was a use for those silly live samples of bees, bats, ect...
As for Milk I think the devs, if they saw the Idea would be up for it. I have read countless posts complaining about Milk and if Rangers could provide it then it would be benefitial to the SWG community.

I like the idea of being able to "milk" herbs but do not want us to turn into the famer Bob's of SWG.
Not farmers, farmers raise stuff. We are explorers, travelers, worldly Men and Women. We live off the land, and if we see something we can Milk why wouldn't we? We have the highest Creature Knowlege in all the Galaxy why wouldn't we know what you can Milk and what is good for you
"My proposal is give Rangers the ability to Milk Female Herbivores."
Such an implementation is apparently already in the works...
- Though I believe it will be a Scout skill (blooming scouts get all the luck).

It will likely be in the TC update that contains the Chef changes (but don't hold me to that). ![]()
