I just had a troublesome meeting with 5 melee type attackers of CL33-38. I was inside a house, no armor, T21 riffle and got creamed once. In second turn i took out all of them but only just about !

Next time i will prepare my burst escape route and take them one by one. But i like to hear how other rangers cope with that kind of mobs !?

Any advice much appreciated. Thx. Arboe

Heh..I die in that situation . I am not so good against mobs of MOBs. As far as Ranger skills, the only thing I can think of is tossing to P-Darts to slow the crowd down. Of course, the may be suicide, too. Really, I think your choice combat skills and luck are best in that situation.

I could have a problem with US expressions. In this case i meant NPC type melee/bodyguard attackers. AFIK they take no notice of P-dart !? Isn't that correct ?

Happy to hear though i'm not alone in having troubles - i was lucky not to get a DB.

Thx. Arboe

In that case, forget the darts and rely on luck .

Hey u know im gonna face another trio of CL50 (Questpart done solo) - i think i will try to sniper the first bodygard if i can find an open linewithin the building of at least 20 meter. That way i punchthe first one round 2700 dmg- then run, hit, run run

Here's what I do:

Target the one closest to you and get to max weapon distance.

/prone /snipershot /stand /kneecap turn and run while cycling through the high damage shots. Sooner or later, the rest of the mob will fall off.

Start all over on the next one.

also, if you know you're up against NPCs... get some decent armor and a PSG to help you in that situation. It's great to hunt without armor if you get some nice BE'd clothes especially, but if you KNOW you're going to be in that situation... be prepared. The armor will hopefully help absorb enough of the kinetic damage if they get into melee range and buy you a little time to fall back or take them out, and if you can keep them ranged, the PSG will provide some pretty decent protection from ranged energy attacks again buying you some time.

Basically you're a rifleman facing melee attackers. Not a lot of Ranger skills going to get you out of trouble there... other than maybe burstrun?

Funnily enough, just spent an hour this morning with one of my Rangers in the Tusken bunker, all CL30 outside, much fun Mind you, that toon is Ranger3044, with pistols/BH/smuggler and stopped wearing armour again last week because it just wears out fast... No BF now, it just takes a few minutes to heal up, recharge and go gittim again

A few things that will work:

1) Target the object of the mission rather than the body guards. Eliminate the mission target, get credit for the mission and run like hell if you have to. You do not have to defeat the guards to get credit for the elimination mission.

2) Buy a combat droid. Yeah, they are usually onlly CL30 but they can keep one or more MOBS occupied if you command it properly.

3) Uh, get someone to help you.

4) Some buffing foods and drinks will help. I never attack superior numbers without health, health regen and mitigation foods in my belly. Heck, I never attack lone MOBS of my same CL or higher without them.

5) Special weapon attacks. Being a pistoleer, I like the AOE attacks and the ever useful Stopping Shot.

Being a BH really helps in this situation. I can't tell you how lucky I am to have BH in my template sometimes. Improved duelist stance has saved me a few times. I've been running around doing the new BH missions and I managed tokill my first double elite level 82 NPC last night, by myself. I was quite proud. of course that was after I killed a level ZERO mark. no idea how it happenend.

As a Rifleman...run. use kneecap shot to slow them down, and take them one by one. always try to get one by itself, and always slow it down with kneecap shot so you're faster. use terrain to your advantage. also, a combat droid does help. I always go around with one.

This is horrible! I return to find my new title on the forum is "Jedi". What's up with that? If they wanted to confer that I'm rare and learned, they'd make my title RANGER. and then make it camo colored.

was the double elite a 35k HAM one? i fought a double elite 14k HAM one with not much problem, but the 35k HAM one i couldn't do solo, i had to have a guildie with some doctor skills come out and keep me healed. and all i get were 8 identile crystalline clothing treatments.

Well i didnt like it at all. But second meeting was only threeso i managed to get them fairly easy. I did drink som Breath of heaven (it is so expensive that stuff !) but most important i had practiced on my possible "escape route" - if my character get caught in a corner thats real bad - armor or no armor - and that was what happened the first time.

In the end i only needed to give 1 knee shot, a bodyshot, a couple of ranged shot in between running/kiting thentheywent down. A good bodyshot apparently give 1200-1300 dmg and i think thats ok. I agree: this is mostly the Rifleman skill i use- but combined withmy Rangers long lastingburst run, every melee punk should think twice before attacking mee- errg, again

Thx. Arboe

Sorry, I might have come across a bit snappy earlier, about ranger/rifleman skills. I hope not?

THing is, you ARE using a good Ranger skill there. It's not one that comes on the skill sheet tho, it's the one that you get from actually THINKING about what you're doing instead of just trundling up to a target knowing you're plated, buffed and have more combat skills than a Janta could shake a stick at.

Route in, route out. If you're in a close quarters environment, keeping the overhead map up so you can see your exit. Not being too proud to /burst out of there if things get too exciting...

That having been said I still have v painful memories of loading in my house (this was back when faction mattered) and finding that I'd attracted the attention of half a dozen Desert Demons. While I was loading they invited themselves in, never mid the door lads, lets go through the floor, and had incapped me twice. Wasn't much I could do but accept a trip to the cloner with stoic silence (yeah, right. The air here was blue) then I had to clear the blighters out of the house one at a time...

happy days
