Apparently Sony has made a social or technological leap that illuded the rest of humanity. They are able to think and work with one unified purpose, and function as one entity. While this is an astounding achievement, they seem to expect all of use to be able to keep up.
Since the rest of us do not share your advantage, Sony, let me paint a senario you:
The whole Development Team comes to work one monday morning. Except Joe and Bill don't show. Infact, there is a note on each of cubes stating that they have quit. Not only that, but their cubes are magicaly sealed, and can't be entered. This is not all that troubling to SOE. They were slackers anyhow. They are quicky replaced, and the new guys set up desks out in the hall. Then the next week, two more folks are stolen away by Blizzard Entertainment. Once again, their cubes are magically sealed. Two more folks take up residence in the hall. This goes on and on for several months. Soon, there are people working out of the break room, the bathrooms, the lobby and the parking lot. Then those people start to leave, and their vacated work areas are rendered un-usable. Pretty soon there is no place to park cars or take a dump.... The company fails and Sony Entertainment Online is aquired by Microprose.
This is EXACTLY the senario you are expecting us to play out in our player cities. Cut us mayors some slack and give us a fighting chance. Even the GREATEST cities will suffer turnover. Let us bury the dead to make room for the living.

So, you're saying you have citizens that have left the city or quit the game and they can not or will not /transferstructure or redeed and take their house down.
Won't it decay after all the maintenance runs out and then poof?
If not, that sux.
So far I've learned a few thing from this forum.
1. Choose you mayor wisely
2. As mayor, chosse your citizens wisely.
I have never been a merchant or artisan, but dont they get expanded abilities over regular players? ie, lessened fees and more vendors to place?
Why can't politicians be given more lots that can only be uses within the player city? at least 2 lots for cryin out loud.
Also the mayor should be able to take default posession of a deed when a citizen undeclares.
If a player wants to leave, they have to redeed before they can "undeclare"
If they do it out of sequence, the deed goes into a "deed box" at city hall, then the mayor has to get it for them. ( I was gonna say the deed appears in the mayors inv, but thats a problem if his inv is full.)
They also could add a /will. If you can't play the game anymore IRL, or you abandon your structure,an automatic /transfer goes to a specific player who is "left" the items, and has X amount of time to destroy or sell these extra items if they go over that persons inventory.

The house WILL poof eventually... But only after the maint has been run out for 1 month. I typically dump 6-10 months worth of maint into structures. If they do the same, the structue could presist for some time, indeed.

Lol, very nice analogy ![]()
I should be so lucky that the people that quit actually leave signs though, they just stop showing up one day.
