I am new to running a city, with ours being less than 2 weeks old. I have learnt that patience is the key. As I started as Novice Politician I am not able to even place the basics city structures that come with being Rank 2. However, as Pappi did I too took the time out to do the FS Quests.
With regards to city, I have placed a Lottery Droid in our 'Market Area', this seems to be bringing custom to our 'non-shuttled' city on Corellia. It has actually resulted in a few more citizens who like the location and want to also get involved in our market area.

Emerald City, Dantooine
Test Center
For the past few weeks I've been working on the mall in my city as well as managing the budget.
I recently discovered that citizen email is malfunctioning, and after numerous mayor switches, found that it was tied to my account. Otherwise, things have been running smoothly, and we should be a metropolis tonight. We are currently looking at 86 citizens, which can be pushed easily to 89, depending upon the citizenship needs of New Unity.

We had a 1 million credit lottery this week in the City of Stargate - 3 days left so if your a wanderhome dweller and you haven't bought a ticket yet... odds 27:1 currently
I am so wishing the california lottery had odds like that. It's been a relative quiet week - though most of the city is involved in GCW in some manner or another.
Sometimes when I need a break I go to another server where I have a toon and play for a few hours. This toon has no house, no belongings nothing and is a lower level toon so its like the fresh new feeling all over again - no committments. I try to do this for a couple of hours a week - that is really all I can break away for.

My city of Vortala on Corellia, Scylla is doing nicely. We're still sort of a backwater, but we do have the closest unguarded shuttleport to the Rebel Hideout as well as the Agrilat Swamp access business.
I eagerly await: some way to monitor my city (like an automated map or something), a way to evict or move misplaced houses which will never burn down, and a bug fix for Industrial Society.
I get away by going to space.5 Star Destroyer solo kills, 2 assists....20+ PvP space victories including the Imp fool in a KSE Firespray that I shot down last night.

gah, the forum ate my post. go figure O.o guess I'll make this one short:
I took a break from my city and did the FS queststuff and other quests on Ahazi. as you probably all know, sometimes a mayors needs his/her time off
so how is your city, and what do you do when you want to take a break from it?

We had a record high voter turnout this election! I'm very pleased that my citizens got over to city hall and voted. It takes a lot of prodding, but I'm so happy to see more participation.
Speaking of participation, the city is sponsoring a decorating contest to get the citizens interested in beautifying their homes. Its taken off a little slow, but I'm happy with the response so far. I am putting up some credits for a 1st prize, plus whatever other things I can come up with. My goal is to bring citizens back to the city. We have a few who are still off in other games, and the ones who have returned are often in space. I'm always looking for ways to grow and strengthen the community.
I had a chance to see some of the player event perks. They seem very cool and I can't wait to incorporate them more into things the city is doing!
As for things I like to do when I take time off from being mayor... recently I went on some marathon nights watching Roswell on DVD. It was a Christmas present from the boyfriend. It gave me a great distraction from zoning, the treasury, etc for a little while.
Have a great week, mayors!

Big project, we are building a wall! approx 100 medium houses to be moved into position for the control of movements within our city when PvP takes place.
Therefore I would be very interested to read about or even see examples of cities that have a succesful layout in controlling PvP and protecting their PvP bases.
