Hotfix Update
Version 0.114815
Crafting
Version 0.114815
Crafting
- There are no longer critical fails on crafting (which would previously destroy componets involved)
This essentially removes any use for the Specialization, does it not? Unless Experimentation was affected by the specialization, a 10% bonus to assembly (as well as all assembly skill tapes, foods, etc) is no longerof benefit to crafters.

If they keep this hotfix then yes Manufacturing Center is useless - no more critical failures that result in loss of components = no risk

Tiggs has added following comment:
This went live with Publish 13.1 and was missed with the publish notes. More information - bonuses will still apply, we removed the critaical fail/object destruction aspect.
So as I unders stand it, the fix is that if you have a critical failure of a component with subcomponents in your crafting tool these subcomponents will not be destroyed ... but you also get no endproduct.

This is the only reason crafters are especially fond of the manufacturing center specialization. It's not a time-saving skill mod, but a cost-saving one. Without running a risk of losing your subcomponents, there's absolutely no appeal to the specialization.

The only small appeal left is that you are more likely to get an Amazing Success or an Exeptional Success. Personally, I feel that Research Center has more utility.

I agree - Research Center is much more appealing and I have had better results.

I find that offensive...
if you don't have something constructive to say, don't post.

We've been discussing this in the DE forums. The Success roll on the actual assembly only affects the quality of your product in maybe 1 in 100 items, probably fewer. The only real draw to the Assembly mods was the ability to minimize your chances of losing somebody's KraytTissues or exceptional components in a crit failure. Assembly modsnow serve almost no purpose.

I am really interested in finding out if Research Center is now worthless - would be 125k savings per week.

research center is a bonus to experimentation and therefore should not have been affected.

There is a pretty intense debate going on the Armorsmith board about this now. For a Shipwright since they have no tapes the patch is a very happy event.
For the moment I have asked my mayor to keep it a research center and paid her to do so. If in fact there is no advantage to having a research cetner then likely we would go to a med center so folks will come by to buff in town (more customers)
