Looking to update my city and would like to put it on paper. What are some of the programs out there I could use?

This won't help you much right now, but I have a very nice Excel based Mayoral program I am working on that will make it very easy to plan a city. It uses the graphing utilities in the game, so you can hover your mouse over any corner and get exact waypoints of any structure in the city.

Takea look at my map in the "Lost Mesa" link under my signature. I hope to have it done pretty soon and I will post it here when it's finished.

Er... I meant the graphing utilities in Excel.

How are you doing the terrain lines? I have some very rough terrain to work with and I'd like to map out placeable areas and try to get something graphed out...

I turn on chat logging and then walk my character around the terrain contour. Every so often I stop and "say" the coords in spatial chat, comma delimited (example: I say "4668,980"). Then after I am all done with the contour I stop my chat logging.

Next step is to go to your log file outside the game and copy the section you made into a separate text file and cut out all the non-coordinate text. Then you can save that file and import it into Excel, which will separate the x and y axis into columns. Make sure you plot your graph using the "x-y plot" method.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Ok, so when you make the terrain lines, you just stay at the same height (altitude) as you move around? I wonder if there is a way you can marco a button to say the coordinates, or at least log them. Just looking for ways to speed up the process...

Yes, I stay on the same altitude so they become topographical lines, like on any topographical map. I also hope there is some command to just spit out the current coordinates. I know in DAOC there was a command called /loc that would spit out your location, which could be logged. I tried this in SWG and it didn't work. I am not sure if there is some time of /coords command or something. Let's keep searching.

You could treat it like an actual land survey and pull elevations from fixed Long and Lat...err Waypoints. So set up a grid system and them check the elevation at each intersection. That's a helluva lot of land though. If there was a way to export the actual map file...now we're talking!
