Thread: A unique citizen swap-esque idea.

I have been thinking about the citizen swap phenomenon from the early days of cities. As most of you know, I vigorously opposed such an idea on the grounds that a character should have a presence in each galaxy they have a character.

Lately, I have realized that the cards are greatly stacked against cities and their use as centers of social play. Cities, like most professions, are best played as an AFK macroed exercise, in this case, having recruiting macros, house placement/naming/transferrence macros, taxes are automated, etc. etc. The city, as a social arena, is left out of social play.

I would like to propose the following experiment. We take a city that is not very large (in this case, my tiny new city of Foris Paradis on Ahazi), and invite roleplayers from every server to create a character and makethis new character acitizen of this city. In this city, each roleplayer joins a "faction" within. Each month, we stage a large get together, in which through combat and roleplayed confrontation, the characters, we establish a microcosm of the galactic situation.

The benefits of such a plan:

  • A guarantee that one play session per month, you have a roleplay situation awaiting, on a character that is likely still relatively fresh.

  • A new group of people, the cross-section of more than 20 galaxies, that enjoys roleplay being a part of their gameplay...all in one place.

  • Low commitment to the server itself. An infrastructure would be established to provide for the needs of the characters during their "down time." (This is where this would seem "citizen swap-esque.")

  • Theopportunity toestablish apalpable storyline, either as a participant, or as a leader!

Now obviously, there are the negatives:

  • This would feel like a citizen swap to some city purists.

  • There is little way to enforce roleplayor "faction" play without the cooperation of the participants.

  • It would be prohibitively expensive to the hosting city.

  • The city in question would have a vast field of houses and structures thatwould be empty most of thetime (much like every other city ).

Right now, I'm just exploring this idea. I see a lot of roleplayer throughout the galaxies, and would love to find ways to work withmore of them in the limited amount of time I have available to me each week. This wouldseem like an ideal course.

Thoughts? Concerns? Praise?

Count me in. I need to get away from Tempest once in a while.

Orignally I was under the impression that this is kind of what the Mos Entha community were trying to do.

I personally have all my time invested in the rp city of Tirius on Eclipse and my band to take part in something like this.

Rather than starting afresh, why not do something similar to the entertainers cross-server parties?

I remember a while back Idesyne was talking about having a rp fest on Chimaera but I am not sure what became of it.

You could perhaps piok a different rp city per server as host for the event in which people come in and play out a scenario.

Just something to think about that would spread the load perhaps.
