Thread: Why should we even have a city at all?
We can't enforce our own rules.
We can't protect our citizens.
We can't protect our town from hostile takeover (this is not the same as a vote-out, we all know what I'm referring to here).
We can't prevent structure griefing beyond our controlled radius.
We can't prevent factions from using structures in a factional town with impunity.
We can't raise money from most of the money generating objects available (cloning centers, trainers, mission terminals).
Why have a city at all? For a shuttle? Closer cloning facility? Guess what, we can get those in any starter city and drop our houses right ourside their doors practically.
All we are left with is a money sink. Seriously! This is NOT what we were told cities would be all about. They were about establishing communities in the game, with their own enforcable rules, and the ability to protect their borders from those who did not follow them.
Devs, you lied yet again.

I want to know what happened to the DEVs deleting the extra NPC cities that they put in because they release an incomplete game.
They will not delete them even though they said they would. This was confimed the second they said no Starports for Player Cities.
Now they spit on Player Cities and are actively shoving people right back into the NPC Cities with this Cloning Center rule change BS.
Sexypimp, they are already fixing the griefing of the clone center death loop. They looked increasing the TEF timer to 2 minutes. Getting rid of the /warn command is not going to fix greifing it is going to increase it.
Technically speaking, people getting attacked on site in a city is not griefing. The city radius is controlled by a group. To me it is the same as if you walked into the tusken fort. The tuskens sure as hell are gonna shoot on site.
As the original poster said, we no longer can create and manage the communities in the way that we were promised. The devs made some errors early on, and did not forsee the problems with people getting to the POIs. So now instead of creatively trying to find the solution, the bring a wrecking ball the to the cities and wipe out a major feature.
I had a cantina up for a while. Wasn't making too much business but at least i could store a lot of my stuff.
Then a city was created nearby, and grew so that my cantina was in city limits.
Now they won't let me in the city because I am not part of their PA, and every time I have tried so far they have city warned me and killed me before I could get to my cantina and get all my stuff.
Only thing I have to do now is just wait until the maintenance expires so I can get my lots back.
Tell me, what choice was I given?
Vimes, I've suggested numerous times that grandfathered residents (those with structures there before a city hall drops) should be immune to all /citywarn and /cityban commands. This would elliminate that issue immediately.

Who said youget a choice?
Your choices noware
1.to get a big group of people to fight your way in and get your stuff back.
2. pay your way in, promise them credits for safe passage
3. Wait till they aren't there. They can't be guarding your little house 24/7.

You see a city going up next to you...and you do NOTHING? You did not ask them what kind of city they were planing? You did not speak to your new neighbors? If you ignored the situation then yopu created your own problem. You say the city grew. That means you had at the minimum a week to talk with the mayor of that city to establish your place in that city. What did you do when the City Hall went up?
It's really funny to me that people think they should have the right to go anywhere they like in the entire game without any problems. Certain areas of the world are owned by certain groups. If you run into a pirate camp, they will likely attack you. It's the same thing for player cities. You must be careful when going to new places. You must be careful when placing structures out in the middle of nowhere. You never know when undesirables might show up. This is all part of the game. There is no magical right to place a house and live in peace anywhere you like. Part of the game is dealing with others and sometimes not getting everything you want.

But Raystonn, you are whining because people you might not like will be able to come into your town. There is no magical right to palce a house and live in peace anywhere you like. You are going to have to accept the fact you just can't kill everybody who comes into your town. You are going to have to learn to deal with others and sometimes not getting everything you want. It's part of the game.
Vimes, if you had had the option of not joining that town, would you take it?
