Tips on being a Mayor...

Well it's hard work first of all. Anyone saying different doesn't know what they are talking about. Maybe your lucky and planted all your buildings after you had your city hall up, but there still will be coordinating the placement of these houses initially, and later placing decorations.

You'll find out that people have no clue how to rotate a house when they want to set it up, or how to determine which part of the house is the door. When helping people set up a house, I stand where the house should be, and using the compass tell them exactly what direction the door should face, explaining the map will up with the top of the screen being north. (Also including that right mouse button rotates the house.)

A helpful tip is to get everyone in your city to give you admin rights. This will allow you to check on people's houses and pay their maitance should they ever have to go on vacation or something. This is also useful for if they quit the game you can keep their house up, or you can monitor it to see when the maintance runs out.

Be nice to all your citizens, including the griefers. If your friendly with them, you may be able to get them to 'rotate' their house. Convience them you just need them to rotate their house, and guess what...once their house is up...make sure they don't have zoning rights and good bye griefer. (Most people don't know about 'zoning' rights)

If someone tries to grief your city by placing their building where it shouldn't be...alter your city's layout and incorporate it. It will piss the griefer off if they placed their building in the middle of a plaza, only to find it in a row and the plaza moved.

DO NOT be attached to your city layout. Things will move and shift. Houses will change. Poeple will want bigger ones over time. Just do your best to keep things somewhat logical. Bank near the shops, cloning center, cantina and hosptial near each other, etc...

If a person can afford to keep a small house and a big one, set the small inside the city boarders and the large one outside the city boarders.

If you have griefers, or 'dead houses', increase your taxes. Increase your Property and Income taxes to the maxium. You can help pay your wanted citizens (expecially if you have admin rights to theirs houses), from the city's treasury. The increased taxes go right back into the city treasury so using that money to pay the taxes each week is fine. The Griefers and Dead Houses won't have that support, so you will be pulling in extra money, and those houses will disappear in shorter amount of time.

*I wonder if it's possiable to get a CSR to check the maintance levels on various houses in our city. I know some of them should be out of maintance but seem to be bugged/stuck where they are.

Mounts! I can't say how thankful I am for having my mount. I have to run all over the city and it's so much faster on the back of a Bol.

Ctrl-M. Alot of people don't know this command. It's great for seeing the city layout and understanding it.

When someone has to move their house or rotate it, to make the city look nicer, make sure they redeclair themselves, and that they go to the city hall to be re-added to the militia if need be.

Citys are expensive! Decorations add to a city, but also add cost to the city, so use them well.

Mission Terminals will be placed the same direction you are facing.

Hospitals require 3 lots, Cantinas require 5. (Hospitals also do not have furniture and will need to be furnished, not sure about Cantinas.).

So between moving houses, rotating houses, adding people to the milita, granting zoning rights, and decorating hospitals and other buildings, a politican's life can be very busy.

If you don't want people to grief your city, consider not adding your city to the map till you've reached the level you wanted to reach. Makes it harder for them to find your city if nothing else.

I think that's it for my tips, and I hope they help others...

Why can't you just refuse to give them zoning rights, insist that you place the house yourself, and transfer ownership to them once it's built?

Wouldn't that be easier?

A quick and easy way to get structures in the right places is placing them yourself and use the /transferstructure command. Saves time explaining it and if you have efficiency IV they get a little break on maint for awhile . Cuts out a little bit of the stress and lets you get onto the next thing in your agenda that much faster.

Only problem with transfer structure is... if you don't have the lots to place the building you can't transfer it. I have only 2 lots free. I do carry around a small naboo house to test/check the land.

I also go with placing the houses for citizens to fit to our hard worked out plan (yes, I will try and stick to it ) ... only large houses have to be placed by citizens, but I take a lot of time to explain exactly how the building should be placed before /grantzoneright is used.

I also advise to have a city chatroom where you can adress online citiznes, organise your mititia, and just have fun chats to increase moral

Make yourself some macros for everrepeating questions, otherwise your typng the same answeres 90% of your time

don't try to do everything by yourself, lern to trust people and form a city council .. give social responsibilities and organizing the militia etc to trustworthy and maybe even outgame elected people to be abel to concentrate more on managing the new and old citziens
